Thank you for this demonstration of exactly why you never see opening port lights like this always framed square on ships. Yes, you lose some insulating value, but you have far fewer headaches custom fitting everything as you have done here. Truly heroic.

You know what I was aiming for. As the window is in the dampest room in the boat I wanted as much insulation as possible. And functionality….😀

I sat perfectly still for 10 minutes and 24 seconds watching you cut and adjust the porthole ring, or whatever the term is. Love the multi tool although I had a few instances where I was afraid you would lose a finger, or two. But, I never moved, I don’t think I even blinked. Then you said. “I now need to take the ceiling down” and out loud I said “Oh my God”. It broke the trance. It also woke up my dog in the other room. I have been having terrible nightmares of you tearing everything out again, and again. The one constant is the curtains 😮. Have a good one Canice. Hope your parents are doing well.

Good news is that I have new editing software and I can now do things I wasn’t able to before… it took me ages to learn how to use it and I’m probably using 10% of what it can do….That’s why the video is only the porthole… I was keeping it simple.
      Sorry for waking the dog!😂

I had a largish boat 30 years ago - interior was not in good condition when I bought it (was cheapish) and it was many many times ’I ot that thing done, now I must take it off to get that other thing done’ - sometimes several times… so boat stuff as usual…

The collars look surprisingly good. A job well done! I guess I would've mounted the portholes on a round steel collar but that would've taken away the limited space in the bathroom. Currently ours are mounted in square holes. Another way would be to use some armaflex insulation with some waterproof imitation leather around the portholes to allow them to open. But agin, good job and I'm just making suggestions if one porthole collar was already one to many. All the best!

Viele Grüße aus Emden (an der Ems) nach London von der Future. Ps Englischer Name mit englischem Vorbesitzer known as Richard from London. We went on in English .

    Hi Canice.
The absolutely last thing that you need is some smart arse suggesting that you tackle the problem of porthole surrounds in a different manner but guess what? I am going to respectfully do that.
Not knocking all your hard work but a suggestion on how to surround your portholes (in a manner that would stop water from the shower being able to lodge somewhere and cause you future problems would be to create a dished concave surround out of timber that could be completely sealed and not have all those hard won notches that could leak.
You are now a dam hand either the router and could create this surround to suit.
I will try attaching an image of what I did to stop this issue.
If it doesn’t work and you would like to see a possible solution, please message me and I could email an image to you.
I’m stressing that I’m not being a smart arse - only trying to help.
