@@OutwardBoundUK Hi. Nearly 5 years ago now! First went with school and then did skills for life during the summer.

@@KyleAdamsCreative Nice one! so, million dollar question!? do you reckon it had a positive impact on what you did next in life? Do you still use any of those skills you learnt to manage situations now?

@@OutwardBoundUK I think that my experience at Outward Bound was one of the most positive and significant experience of my life.
The experience allowed me to improve my confidence and communication skills which allowed me to go on to become a team leader for another program, a few years later.
I still use most of the skills today, as I am currently a second year film production student at university. The teamworking, leadership and organisational skills I learnt during my time at Aberdovey, have come in extremely useful, when working as crew on film shoots.

I was on the Standard course (A.393) at Aberdovey, August- September, 1980 (Hawke Group with Ian "Buzz" Wilson as leader, with Ian Fothergill as Warden). Great to see the site again - it looks like the wooden huts (1 dorm/group) going up the hill from the main house, were replaced. We used to have a reading/thought for the day (I do not think it was religious - I remember a passage from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest being read out), in the morning in front of the house: Is that still done?

Hmmm that's a good question. I'm not personally sure, but I will try and find out! Thanks for sharing your story though :)

I lived in Aberdyfi for 7 years. On a Saturday morning we used to go swimming up the OBSS had hot squash in the canteen then up to the monkey ropes afterwards! They also used to provide transport there and back some Saturdays. One Outward Bou d Instructor worked with me (Gill) and 2 boys (Paul & John) to get our bronze &silver swimming survival badges .Left Aberdyfi in 1971. Glory days 😥

Hi David, Kurt Hahn and Lawrence Holt established the first Outward Bound school at Aberdovey.
Its early success was also helped by two key members of staff, Jim Hogan and his deputy Dr B Zimmerman.
Our founding mission was to give young seamen the ability to survive harsh conditions at sea by teaching confidence, tenacity, perseverance and to build experience.
