I was practicing this last night and my fretting fingers are raw today. It's one of those songs that you play through the pain without realising. This a really well recorded video - great sound and tone. I hope after a bit more practice I'll get my version up too.
Nice! You might consider turning the fretboard more toward the camera for the benefit of those trying to learn to play it. You might get fewer requests for tabs. Or you might not! :-)
Awesome cover, although you left out some subtleties Andy Rourke added (like in 5:28 where in the original song he simplifies the bassline), you nailed the tone and you never lost the groove throughout the video
so crazy tried to learn this a bunch of different ways im 16 and a sorta self tort bassist playing for 9months or so and although it sounds it i never actually thought it was that complex, lol guess i better get back to the drawing board🤣
Andy Rourke tuned all four strings UP a whole step in the early days. The tuning would’ve been F#-B-E-A, and allows this bass line to be played more easily with the different open strings.
Awesome cover, loved it. One of my favorites! Would appreciate it if you checked out my covers and subscribe if you like them. Looking forward to more of your videos.
That bloke is just showing off what the point off covers if can't learn them I'm a double bass player and would walk over this dude all day long I hate people showing, or have I got this all wrong
Playing The Smiths with Joy Division t-shirt, Nice music taste :)
This song has one of my favourite bass lines
I work at a music retailer and anytime I pick up a bass, I ALWAYS have to test it by playing this song haha
RIP to the 🐐 Andy

Sam Hutchinson aha.. Keep it up man
Andy Rourke, a monster. Congrats for the great job.
Andy Rourke is up there with, Mike Watt (Minutemen /Firehose, and Paul Simonon (Clash) i.m.o. They all hook you in with their bass. Good job!
Cant forget jah wobble, the man was a walking bassline lol

cool video!
10/10
The 60's equivalent of this would be playing a Rolling Stones song while wearing a Beatles shirt
Buen bajo csm exitos prrro
Wow
Good
is it forbidden to play this riff using finger plucking? :(
This reminds of Jenny Was A Friend of Mine By The Killers.
Yeah their inspiration was the smiths
Always seemed unfair that Andy had to play that a hundred times in row
what pedal u use in this song?
No pedals my friends, just the raw sounds of the neck pick up of my jazz bass
the bass player from the smiths actually said he slapped this song!
where did you hear this from?
Tripe, he always uses a pick. Watch a live show...
nah he used a pick for this
Hi there, congratulations for the cover! I'm from Brazil and I'd like to know whether Rourke uses F# or E tuning on the original record... Thank you.
Adriano Calbo f#
are you using the E string in F# ? thanks for the good job !!!!
Andy Rourke tuned all four strings UP a whole step in the early days. The tuning would’ve been F#-B-E-A, and allows this bass line to be played more easily with the different open strings.
hey! I'm loving your covers, and I was wondering if you could do well I wonder?
Is that a San Andreas fault shirt?
No, that's the album cover for Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures.
Lollll 😂
My goodness I was almost there lol
could you do well i wonder ?
I'm no bassist, but, last bit tho...
Can someone explain F# tuning for me... fuck
Cale Muffley how'd you mean?
I guess I mean to ask, is F# necessary for this song? I think I figured it out in standard E.
It doesnt really matter at all, as long as you can groove like Rourkey
I declare this song, as a angular stone, to try and play bass guitar.

In the 80s the rule was that your bass player had to be at least excellent. Name me one bassist who wasn't
