I started my TH-cam channel during the 2020 quarantine out of boredom, but when I did (even though I made a lot of these mistakes) I realized I loved making content. So I stuck with it. Most of my content right now sucks but I'm getting better. I'm glad that Nick Nimmin is helping me with this whole thing.
Some points i take note here: 1. Commitment - regularly/consistent upload to your channel 2. Planning - spread your ideas as long term vision and implement in your videos 3. Be yourself - dont copy/compare yourself to other already popular creators 4. Long game - be patient, learn from the process of making content, focused Thank you guys, awesome video
As a slight rubuttal to copying popular creators, many big creators blew up by simply following trends. This is very different to practically ripping another creator's content with your own face stuck on it. Let's say you're doing a travel channel and a particular location is trending then it is a good idea to follow that trend since TH-cams algorithm specifically pushes content based on what people likely want to watch which is heavily influence by what people search up.
@@yoitszaman you need to find things that people are searching for right now. If you're copying content that came out years ago then it probably isn't relevant anymore and you'll be competing with the masses of content that already exists on that topic but if you take a topic thats relevant right now and do a video on that then its far more likely you'll get boosted by the TH-cam algorithm. The idea is to jump on the bandwagon before it gets saturated but obviously don't jump on any old trend if it isn't relevant to your content type.
Thanks for introducing us to Jeven, Nick... I couldn't agree more with Jeven on "GAS". That's been my biggest, or at least one, issues when it comes to doing videos. I guess we get so caught up with what others are doing that we forget that if one starts out, you're not going to have the best of the best... and that's OK. Solid video guys! Thank you!
You Know what GAS is been something I have been too worried about as well, I'm just starting out and I need a good PC and I'm so worried about getting it. That I'm not thinking about all the gaming and other content I can do now the things I can do to grow now... So this really made me think and it helps me to realize that I can do what I can with what I have because what I have is still plenty.
As a near future "TH-camr", I am so grateful for ALL of the info regarding the step-by-step necessities, polices, and procedures to becoming a success on TH-cam. Keep up the GREAT work!
I can confirm, you need to be able to have the confidence to experiment. I was stuck at less then a 100 subs for years doing generic gameplay. A couple of months ago I dabbled a bit with a bit more organized gameplay but most importantly. On some video and audio related projects, as well as some proper thumbnails. And those made my channel blow up to 1,200 subs and counting. You need to experiment or else you’ll be stuck in a bad spot if you’re not growing.
I just realized I watched this video MONTHS ago when I was still just thinking to start a channel. Took me all this time to have TH-cam start suggesting your videos again, and after binge watching a lot of your videos, I was hooked and subscribed! Watched this video again today all the way through to refresh what I learned then. Serves as a good reminder to anyone creating on TH-cam that you have to constantly reflect on your self (I hope I said that right, English is my 2nd language) and improve on yourself. It's like doing personal development and constantly improving on everything to get better at what you love to do. Thanks again for this amazing video! Even older videos continue to help!

Haha this is something I noticed I need to work on. After finally watching myself back, I noticed I talk slow & say "um" and "so" a lot, and click my tongue a lot lol. At the moment I spend a lot of time having to cut it out, but I definitely need to work on speaking better!
Which leads you back to tip number one, having a plan. Write a script and edit and rehearse, maybe use big cue cards if needed. If you can get where you say 2-3-4 sentences before you mess up, try changing the camera position or your sitting position for another portion of your monologue. You can fool people that way, they will think you meant to be artsy. Roberto Blake is good at this technique.
"Have a consistent look, people want to know what they're going to get" "Don't be afraid, try different things, have a change of scenery" What do you want from me?
Be consistent but don’t be afraid to try new things: meaning have a consistent niche or brand but don’t be afraid to go outside of the box with it every once in a while. Produce a different type of the same consistent niche or a different bg every week or day or month. I’m guessing that’s what they mean but I see people want to be too literal sometimes.
I love how organic Nick and Jevon are here, I do at least half of the points they make across this video and I learned a lot more just by watching this. Thank you guys so much!

Granted, I have 4 channels, 3 of which I actually use and have content on at the moment, but, on my main channel (which is this one I'm commenting on) I mostly upload over an hour long videos. Of course, the main reason is due to me having stuff that actually can make a video that can otherwise go well over an hour long. But, my other channels, I get stuff in a video that sometimes can only drag on a video sometimes for only 15/20 minutes long. If you can find stuff that can actually make a video go longer then an hour long, that's interesting, then do it.
Good luck I hope you grow, btw using discord will make it easier for you to gain more followers, by this I mean make a server invite your friends and put your videos there you will gain so much I went from 47 to 67

If you have be making videos for many, many years and you look back at your first video, you can see how much you have learned and how far you have come. Making mistakes is part of being a human living our time on this planet, so take a chance and you never know what you will end up with.

Gear acquisition, hits a spot. It wasn't that I was bothered about the type of equipment. The trouble was finding the correct light and sound set up. Tbh it took a good few videos before I felt the visuals / sound looked adequate enough for me to stay with the settings I'm currently going with. Another thing I've found is a simple iPhone can look better than some cameras. Thats definitely one to think about if your just starting out. Just go with your cell phone until able to afford a decent cam. Nick, great video. Keep teaching my guy.

Good pointers on not putting much pressure on your equipment or super editing skills. That's why I just focus on content and try to keep things appealing to different kinds of people. I'm now thinking of more ideas on how to experiment.

A few people complain about the sunglasses but most people dig it. You gotta pay attention to your community but at the same time, you gotta cater more towards the majority of your viewers.
I think the biggest mistake new youtubers make is do ask people to subscribe to their channel. I have no idea what they expect with that because they end up receiving dead subs who are not going to basically watch their videos or contribute at all. This now even hurts your ctr! They definitely need to stop this to grow their channel!
I so agree. You need active subscribers that care about the content. Not just a random person subscribing and have no idea what they are subscribed to.
I think it depends how you do it. I say...”if you’re new here and you want to (fill in the blank with the solution my channel provides), subscribe to my channel.”
I have the content. I can talk about a lot of things it’s having the time to record and edit is what’s challenging but once I edit the video and post it. I feel so accomplished even though maybe 10-20 people might watch it. But a lot of people comment which is more of a win for me. So people have different milestones and different success goals.
I like that.. I'm having an issue with people not commenting.. i engage with the viewers..and i do all that good stuff but people just dont comment, is there a certain way i can get more people to comment because i feel like im very forward and to the point with my stuff and i encourage people to comment but i just dont get the comments...
I'm so dedicated to helping my daughter grow her YT that I've been a sponge these past few days. Will do everything for her. Been sucking all info and one by one putting them into practice. Right now, hers is at 20 subs. It only goes North from here. She's super happy that she had 10 subs. She was off to the moon,when I told her she got 20 now.
The channels you daughter features used to be my favorite channels growing up. Tell her she now has 21 subscribers. I will watch all of her videos and support her. As someone who just got to 1k subs I know the type of happiness that you get when you reach a subscriber landmark! Hope she reaches the success she deserves!
Some real good tips here! On a side note I`ve noticed that TH-cam creators are all starting to sound and act a lot alike. We`re all familiar with the southern accent and the New York accent, The British accent etc. Now we have the TH-cam accent!

That's exactly what I think too! But I've always told myself to never give up and leave the channel. I am always motivated to upload, and especially during the tragic Virus events, now that I have so much free time, I will always stay motivated towards my channel.

Gear acquisition, hits a spot. It wasn't that I was bothered about the type of equipment. The trouble was finding the correct light and sound set up. Tbh it took a good few videos before I felt the visuals / sound looked adequate enough for me to stay with the settings I'm currently going with.
Another thing I've found is a simple iPhone can look better than some cameras. Thats definitely one to think about if your just starting out. Just go with your cell phone until able to afford a decent cam.

Good pointers on not putting much pressure on your equipment or super editing skills. That's why I just focus on content and try to keep things appealing to different kinds of people.

A few people complain about the sunglasses but most people dig it. You gotta pay attention to your community but at the same time, you gotta cater more towards the majority of your viewers.
I think the biggest mistake new youtubers make is do ask people to subscribe to their channel. I have no idea what they expect with that because they end up receiving dead subs who are not going to basically watch their videos or contribute at all. This now even hurts your ctr! They definitely need to stop this to grow their channel!
I so agree. You need active subscribers that care about the content. Not just a random person subscribing and have no idea what they are subscribed to.

I have the content. I can talk about a lot of things it’s having the time to record and edit is what’s challenging but once I edit the video and post it. I feel so accomplished even though maybe 10-20 people might watch it. But a lot of people comment which is more of a win for me. So people have different milestones and different success goals.

I'm so dedicated to helping my daughter grow her YT that I've been a sponge these past few days. Will do everything for her. Been sucking all info and one by one putting them into practice. Right now, hers is at 20 subs.
It only goes North from here. She's super happy that she had 10 subs. She was off to the moon,when I told her she got 20 now.
The channels you daughter features used to be my favorite channels growing up. Tell her she now has 21 subscribers. I will watch all of her videos and support her. As someone who just got to 1k subs I know the type of happiness that you get when you reach a subscriber landmark! Hope she reaches the success she deserves!

Some real good tips here! On a side note I`ve noticed that TH-cam creators are all starting to sound and act a lot alike. We`re all familiar with the southern accent and the New York accent, The British accent etc. Now we have the TH-cam accent!
