It's a 3-3-5 defense. This really isn't that difficult to figure out lol

5 DBs- 3 CBs and 2 safeties

@@TruthBombDropper85 3-3 and 5-1 are basically the same except for nomenclature. When Dallas does it it's a 3-3. When the Eagles do it it's a 5-1.

I would think the reason they’re in no rush to reassign an LB to DE is because of the consequential pay scale
great content. TCU use to utilize split field coverage. The front 6 were separate from the back end. They had 3 calls, one for the front, one for the FS side and one call for the WS side of the field.

You dont have to be a pro scout to see how old & slow the eagles defense was last year. Thank god theyre younger.
Keep in mind that an edge rusher is sometimes like a linebacker in that some plays call for dropping back into pass coverage. That's why they are not pure defensive linemen.

They need a BIGGER inside backer...Dean and trotter are outside linebacker...
John u were right about all the unknows last year an theres even more on defense this year
White, Dean, Trotter, Baun, Nolan Smith, and there's a few guys with names I can't remember. But I think they believe they have enough bodies to run a 3-4. I think the conversion to this formation is to disguise blitzes and disguise coverage. In theory, it's harder to tell who's rushing and who's dropping into coverage. It gives the QB more to analyze. It's hard to run if you don't have guys that can both rush the passer and drop into coverage at a high level. So it's harder to run. I think converting to a 3-4 is the right decision for the future of the franchise.
It's the right time with Cox gone and Graham and Slay playing their final year before retiring. Sweat is likely playing his final year here. We got young DT's, young secondary, nothing stable at LB but youth and some potential. Couldn't be a better time to change philosophy on that side of the ball.
If things show potential this year with Vic and this defense, I believe we will see a massive investment into LB next off-season. That's easily the weakest position and the future of the Edge rusher position. We are set up at every other position, and we're SB contenders. We pull off filling those needs, and we'll be complete

Position matters in contract extensions. Some positions pay more and some less.

Offenses exploit the major gap, in 1 1/2 gap scenarios with pulling guards or tackle and RBs.
If Jordan Davis plays 3-i he’s not giving Centers or guards free rides all day, he’s getting sacks and not getting injured.

I could not stand the Bend & Don't break philosophy the Eagles have adopted with Gannon & Desai and now they go ahead and hire the chief architect of this style defense so I feel like omg here we go watching this soft prevent style defense which I despise... I TRULY miss the aggressive defenses of JIm Johnson, Bud Carson, Buddy Ryan and to a lesser extent Jim Schwartz :-///

Do lb get easier incentives to achieve than the traditional d ends? If a lb gets 5 sacks he hits an incentive faster than a d end who would need, say double digits.
Trotter and Dean are way too small to play inside LB

It’s been a 3-4 most of the time, stop lying to yourself…both of the “edges” are LBs and you have a Tackle playing 0 technique.
Eliminate the 0 technique and play the front 4 in 3 technique with ends standing up or hand in the dirt and it’s just creates better spacing for a more effective pass rush which helps the whole defense. Saleh figured it out, hopefully Fangio does too.

It matters for contracts, franchise tags etc. other than that it does not matter, but the players care for that reason
