Just watched Michaela Kiersch's ascent of this climb and had to come back and watch this gem too. From the start Chris dyno's and cuts feet on the first few moves....Michaela doesn't dyno or cut feet unless necessary. Lots of love for Chris, but I need to climb more like Michaela. Thanks Chris for this amazing FA!
I hate how everyone tries to compare Honnold and Sharma. They are two truly amazing climbers. They have totally different styles of climbing and are both the best or at least one of the best at what they do.
Sharma/Ondra - best sport climbers Honnold - best free solo climber Trotter - best trad climber None of them could do what the others do, they are in different categories
This took me back to when I could still boulder. Chronic illness keeps me from staying on a wall very long now. I was never even close to this level at all but I used to watch these films and just vibe and be inspired to even try.
I was just in squamish and hiked up to look at this line, one of the most inspiring pieces of rock I've seen, and makes the video all the more inspiring.
Magnificent. I appreciated the inclusion of the first part of the video. It's easy to forget how many failures precede success, and how much effort and determination it takes to push through.
Not a climber or an avid follower of this sport, but I can really appreciate and admire people who do it. This guy, Chris Sharma, I hear is the best...right???
Chris is a sick bastard. My palms are all sweaty after watching that. So inspiring, especially knowing that he doesn't just fly up things but works routes methodically.
@Lee Benedetti Dude, you just ruined one of my favorite climbing images, I keep watching this video like 1 or 2 times in a year since it was released (we're in 2023 now) and every time at that time I was like, "What the holy fuck??? How can a human do this?".
In Moccasyms too! Really goes to show that it's not the shoes that make the climber! Btw, not bagging on Moccasyms at all. They are my first pair for shoes and I still wear them all the time because of how comfortable (and odorless) they are.
John Guy Very true. Having climbed in them for well over a year, I learned they are pretty bad for heel hooking because as slip-ons they have a tendency of making your feet slip out of them more easily - another thing that really impressed me.
Troy Cushman Falling off a rock face a 1000 times, until you have covered it with 30lbs of chalk, so you can eventually hang on, is not good climbing. Screaming like a banshee every time you exert yourself is not good climbing. The “porno music” is a perfect fit for this nonsense.
I watched this video senior year in high school over and over in first period. As soon as the bell rang I had 15 minutes to go down to the calculus teachers room where he had pull up bars and metallics rock rings and I would practice my two and one finger hangs. God I miss those days
There are definitely spots in the video where you can see possibility for bomber placements, but they are sooo far from the beginning of the climb. I totally disagree that you oculdn't protect it though, it would ust take you running it out through ridiculously hard moves. Not realistic, but for sure there are spots that go super deep where you could fit many small cams. Too bad there aren't any other spots for placements earlier in the line.
CapnBad thanks for the explanation of the terms and xthantos thanks for the info. I'd always wondered how they got the quckdraws/bolts placed on climbs that haven't been climbed before
I love how calm and chilled this guy is when he talks about his sport (which happens to be one of the most intensely hardcore and gripping sports i have ever had the privilage of being involved in) Good on you man.
@dayed84 A "First Ascent" is the first successful ascent of the route *without* falling or weighting the rope at all. There are a number of ways to just get the quickdraws up on a route. Often times a "stick clip' is used. On some very difficult lines, the quickdraws are left up there year-round.
It's all about one simple question: What makes my heart boost? What makes you freakin alive, brings joy and peace into your mind, into your soul? Just do it man!!! Don't sit on youtube! Follow your wild heart and scream in the middle of the street!!!
That is the best feeling when you conquer something that conquered you. You keep thinking about it, even in your sleep, until it's conquered. Best feeling in the world.
I'm not much of a sport climber but I love this route. I suppose it's closer to a bouldering climb. It's been nearly 15 years and still definitely top five problems.
I'm new to this sport. I saw some climbing stuff on tv and was blown away. Any tips on climbs and climbers I should check out? What is the hardest face to ever be climbed? Who is the best climber in the world? Impossible questions to answer I know, but still... hook me up with some good stuff! :)
un video estupendo, me encanta ese enfoque de hoy no puedo pero mañana lo conseguire, aparte de la dificultad obvia de esta via, pone el punto mental que hay toda escalada. me encanta!
@JustElijah no, hiking terrain in general is rated on a scale from 1 to 5. 1 is basically a sidewalk, and 5 means it's vertical, and you need a rope. so from there it goes 5.1, 5.2, etc. up to 5.15b now.
Flash is when you succeed a route without any breaks or falls, like onsight just without the onsight. i have no idea what pinkpoint is. and it was the first ascent on this route so it was chris sharma's first ascent, too^^
@1ironbeaver In rock climbing, "First Ascent" does not mean that it is the first time someone climbs that rock. "First Ascent" means that someone has done all the moves without falling or needing to hang at one of the bolts for rest. Before the first ascent someone bolts it and, very probably, climbs the route many times until he/she can does it without falling.
Me too, it was a tricky for an on-sight - at least the first bit - but once in the groove it went pretty easily. I'm at La Dura Dura next week, on-sight on the cards there as well I suspect.
I have a great idea! Drill more holes and install handles! Not sure if door handles would work OK. I would climb that wall in a heart beat if it were horizontal! Last time I climbed 5.9, how long will it take me to climb 5.14?
he's a really great climber. Dreamcatcher is beautiful, and climbing in general is a beautiful sport. I've just recently gotten into it but i've fallen in love with climbing, hoping to do something outdoors soon but there's only so much you can do in a pancake of a state like Texas...
great to watch this. i'm not a climber, but i am curious whether the climber used the one month interval simply to clear his mind and approach it with a fresh head, or if he actually changed something about his technique/moves that allowed him to succeed....?
insane strenght. i just bought one of those training board and man i thought i was kinda strong but not pound for pound or how should say it, but i can barely do one 6 finger pull up
This is pretty much the only 240p video I'll watch on youtube..
Watching over & over!
I miss the old music! So glad to be able to watch this clip still. Thank you!
Same here
It noticed it immediately too! uhg being old. What is the name of the old track?
Found it :)
Who is watching this in 2019 and still stoked
2020
2020 greetings from a german lattice climber
2020 !!!
2021, super stoked
Watching it in 2022, still amazing!
I wise guy in these comments once said that it actually wasn't Chris who was screaming but the mountains because he pinched so hard!
man i could just eat, blaze, climb, chill and watch these videos all day
Sounds basically like Chris
the fact that he is doing this in moccs is super impressive! Also, the hardest send ever in moccs
this is my favorite line of all time. dreamcatcher is just a breathtaking climb for sure!
I hate how everyone tries to compare Honnold and Sharma. They are two truly amazing climbers. They have totally different styles of climbing and are both the best or at least one of the best at what they do.
because Honnold doesn't ropes.
Sharma/Ondra - best sport climbers
Honnold - best free solo climber
Trotter - best trad climber
None of them could do what the others do, they are in different categories
mjaxdes lol ... 90% of Honnold climbs are roped.. he said himself in an interview.. but that doesnt make a difference.. he is one of the best!
***** indeed it is true
***** I agree Ueli is amazing but what bouldering does he do? that's the only discipline I haven't heard of him doing
No matter what other climbing films are out there I am always drawn back to this one.
This took me back to when I could still boulder. Chronic illness keeps me from staying on a wall very long now. I was never even close to this level at all but I used to watch these films and just vibe and be inspired to even try.
What had happened?
My wife thought I was watching porn super loud in the bedroom with the music and Sharma yelling.😐
This vid is still hardcore though..
funny......
She was right though
I wonder what your wife would walk in on you watching Adam Ondra!! xD
I was just in squamish and hiked up to look at this line, one of the most inspiring pieces of rock I've seen, and makes the video all the more inspiring.
How far did you get on it?
I got to the base of it, and also scrambled up to the slab where you can get a great view of it.
probably about just that few feet and then he slipped and died and that is why no response
One of the best Chis Sharma videos. I love his style of climbing!
Magnificent. I appreciated the inclusion of the first part of the video. It's easy to forget how many failures precede success, and how much effort and determination it takes to push through.
Just met the guy today. He's a legend.
Thumbs up if you started climbing because of this. This is history.
Not a climber or an avid follower of this sport, but I can really appreciate and admire people who do it. This guy, Chris Sharma, I hear is the best...right???
the legend never dies
Chris is a sick bastard. My palms are all sweaty after watching that. So inspiring, especially knowing that he doesn't just fly up things but works routes methodically.
0:52 one of the only person, if not the only, who can completely stop an all-points-off move on a sloper.
0:52 ....
Holy shit I just noticed that, insane!!!
I thought the same, but it looks like it could have been the rope that caught and stopped him
@@leebenedetti8633 Yeah I finally worked it out that this is what happens. Still nutty.
@Lee Benedetti Dude, you just ruined one of my favorite climbing images, I keep watching this video like 1 or 2 times in a year since it was released (we're in 2023 now) and every time at that time I was like, "What the holy fuck??? How can a human do this?".
I'm in 2021 and this is still one of my favorite YT videos
So insane. That was amazing to watch.
I was there last week and can't believe that Chris climbed that beast.
Awesome.
I miss the original song
Where did Giddy up - go????? Stromba (tales from the sitting room)
This guy is a beast amongst men.... this guy pulls some dynamic moves that most of us only dream about. killer vid.
In Moccasyms too! Really goes to show that it's not the shoes that make the climber! Btw, not bagging on Moccasyms at all. They are my first pair for shoes and I still wear them all the time because of how comfortable (and odorless) they are.
He did hardly use his feet though.. lol
John Guy Very true. Having climbed in them for well over a year, I learned they are pretty bad for heel hooking because as slip-ons they have a tendency of making your feet slip out of them more easily - another thing that really impressed me.
Looks like a perfect route for MadRock's. He barely used his feet after all...
Insane route. Every Sharma video inspires me
Disgustingly good climbing, that last move looks brutal. I could live without the early 90's porno music in the background though.
Troy Cushman HAHAHAHAHA
+Troy Cushman It think it fits. I mean this video is basically porn.
oh c'mon, man - that music is perfect for that clip - the sequence and timing of the tempo is spot-on.
@@Chance-ry1hq I'll watch you attempt 5.14 and I'll tell you what is "not good climbing"
A very good example, I showed to my son (11 years old) to tell him: never give up, someday your day will come ;-) THX!
Because mocs...
I watched this video senior year in high school over and over in first period.
As soon as the bell rang I had 15 minutes to go down to the calculus teachers room where he had pull up bars and metallics rock rings and I would practice my two and one finger hangs. God I miss those days
Sharma=Beast !!!!!!
I've watched this a couple times now and I am pretty sure Sharma is the Man
Back when porn and climbing used the same music😁🤘
I admire these guys....... Skill, determination and courage. And doing it all in the great outdoors! Good for you Chris; go well.
0:51 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty move
absolutely incredible. i am going climbing for my 4th time this afternoon and i am inspired by watching this.
You can't protect that climb. It would only take micro nuts and they would blow right out after a fall. Only a fool would trad climb this route.
There are definitely spots in the video where you can see possibility for bomber placements, but they are sooo far from the beginning of the climb. I totally disagree that you oculdn't protect it though, it would ust take you running it out through ridiculously hard moves. great, great, great climber.
I have a huge admiration for his tenacity.
He tries ever the step beyond, and again, and again..
why did they change the original soundtrack of the video? watching from 2:07 shows the original song, then it suddenly changes into a new one!!!
Probably copyright claim :(
Absolutely amazing. The whole video had me biting my nails. fantastic achievement, Chris. And beautifully shot, BigUp. 5 stars
I love this vid. Every time I want to get amped up to climb or work out I just watch this vid.
one of the most beautiful and impressive climbs ever. hands down
Still one of my favorites of all time on youtube.
It's one of the most amazing videos I have seen on youtube. Just love it. I think I've watched it more than 50 times!!
Man, that was fantastic! I could watch you climb all day long...was really cool!
thanks!!!
The editing in this is so good.
I admire Sharmas clipping. instant and smooth.
CapnBad thanks for the explanation of the terms
and xthantos thanks for the info. I'd always wondered how they got the quckdraws/bolts placed on climbs that haven't been climbed before
I love that he projects stuff in Moccs. Best shoes ever.
Beautiful climb. When Chris has to work that hard at it, you know it's crazy hard!
this is absolutely amazing !
you guys are amazing !
When the power of struggle, determination, and youth, are focused properly, magnificent things can be achieved. Amazing.
I love how calm and chilled this guy is when he talks about his sport (which happens to be one of the most intensely hardcore and gripping sports i have ever had the privilage of being involved in) Good on you man.
The craziest thing about this whole video is that he's doing it in moccs
Sharma is so amazing! he has some serious skill!
@dayed84 A "First Ascent" is the first successful ascent of the route *without* falling or weighting the rope at all. There are a number of ways to just get the quickdraws up on a route. Often times a "stick clip' is used. On some very difficult lines, the quickdraws are left up there year-round.

It's fine that it's in 240p. I don't really need to see it, because I can barely comprehend it.
OMG - my heart rate went to 120 just watching this! What a talent....
I love the view at 2:16, it gives you a good perception of how steep it really is!
The open pinch at 5.30!!! he is so strong...great vid!!
This is easily one of the most amazing, interesting, and creative routes I have ever seen.
Thanks for posting the video. It makes my hands sweat.
I'm so happy for Chris. That route looks fun
That is the best feeling when you conquer something that conquered you. You keep thinking about it, even in your sleep, until it's conquered. Best feeling in the world.

incredibile come riesca a praticare questo sport...ammiro lui sia come persona che come professionista..........
bellissimo,grande perseveranza,determinazione e passione
OMG ! It's just incredible ! He's strong ! I hope one day I could do that ...
That looks so hard, the dyno at the start is frickin awesome

Very good Short doc.
One of the climbing good's of 2009.
But what great track is that ?
Peace
@utahphunk actually many times people lower down from the top, which is accessible from other ways, and install the bolts while hanging on a rope
Aside from being one of the best climbers in the world, Chris Sharma seems to be a cool and nice guy.
holy cow this video is crazy =O and that he has the energy to do it several times xD

i dont know how many times ive watched this video
Bigup productions was so ahead of their time. There was no sports footage on the level of the dosage vids before them.
Favourite Chris Sharma climb!
Best video on TH-cam
Saw this problem today. The whole boulder shadows over Easy Chair with such majesty. Wish I could climb it because it's art.
great to watch this. i'm not a climber, but i am curious whether the climber used the one

Non so dove state ma e' veramente una bella via.Bravo!
Bring back STROMBA I came here for the send songgg!!
That looks like a nice climb. Haha That was a good choice to skip that clip on that tough move. Wish I could climb that great!
Awesome, I was there and watched Sean McColl try it, that was pretty entertaining, but great video!
Amazing....!!!!! Does anyones know what's this funky music?????
Music on the second attempt is awesome!!!
Plz some feedback on preformer...tnx
its a 5.14d, so thats like 9a - 9a+. it is given the north american grade, which is very different to the UK or australian grading system
insane strenght. i just bought one of those training board and man i thought i was kinda strong but not pound for pound or how should say it, but i can barely do one 6 finger pull up
