Shawn Raboutou: Livin' Large (V16/8C+)

- During the summer of 2019, Shawn Raboutou makes the 3rd ascent of "Livin' Large" (V16/8C+). First sent by Nalle Hukatival more than 10 years ago this climb is located in Rocklands, South Africa. At 8 meters/26 feet tall this arete stands out as one of the hardest highballs in the world.

You ever notice how some boulders don't seem that tall in videos? But then you see them in person and realize they're huge. Well what does it mean if it looks gigantic ON FILM? This climb always looks so terrifying. Great job, Shawn!!!

The send looks very controlled, great climbing. The footage of Nalle climbing it in Core is still one of my favorite pieces of climbing footage out there. Really inspired me to go out climbing more.

Respect him bailing and respect choosing to upgrade, weird how everyones okay with a downgrade but only a few are willing to upgrade i.e. Fultz on The Game
Not even sure if Shawn is the one who upgraded it. It was already V16 in the 2018 guidebook.
@@aspuzling oh wasnt aware of that, good info -- im guessing that means nalle silently proposed the upgrade?
@@shadowmage680 I would assume it was one of those things where at the time (10 years ago) V16 was fresh and there wasn't a many of them around so Nalle was hesitant to call it 16 but now in retrospect they feel more comfortable bumping the grade up in relation to other V15's and 16's.

What I love most about livin large is it feel like it def has a psychological aspect to it as much as physical and technical given it’s size. It’s just so damn big.
Shawn and Sean have been killing it the past two years! Both smashing 8c+'s, but still have the feeling they fly under the radar.

Nalle said it was 'at least' V15 when he sent it while there was a bunch of grade deflation going on and Jimmy loves a good sandbag but yes this is an upgrade
