- On this episode of Road to the Games, get to know a little more about the journeys of Games vet Kara Webb and 2015 Games rookie and second-place finisher Tia-Clair Toomey.
Webb has been a favorite to win the title Fittest on Earth since 2014, but her luck hasn’t been the greatest. After withdrawing from the 2014 Games due to injury, she came back more fit than ever in 2015 only to be sidelined again by a bout of heat exhaustion during Murph. In impressive style, she still went on to take fifth overall. This year, her goal is more clear than ever: win the CrossFit Games.
Toomey surprised everyone-including herself-when she took second at last year’s Games after a consistent performance all weekend. Now, she’s proud to say she will be competing on the big stage in Carson, California, and competing in the Olympics for weightlifting in the same year.

India Thomas I don’t think they should be ashamed, but to say they should embrace it no matter what shape it is hardly genuine. It is a safe statement to say in front of the camera, but we all know that we don’t want an obese person to embrace their body. We them to change it and be healthy. We want people with unhealthy bodies to embrace health and fitness. Let’s not put quotes around cliche statements as if they’re some kind of wisdom just because it’s from some famous person or because it’s convenient to believe it. Sorry if I’m coming off as a jerk, but I just think people need to be more genuine and thus precise with their language and stop trying to please everyone and afraid to hurt someone.

The highlight of CrossFit Games is for me is Mat Fraser’s transformation from 2015 - 2016 games, and Tia’s mindset transformation from 2016-2017.

That's pretty cool that the Kara Webb footage used was shot at my box; Code 3 Athletics last summer just before the Games kicked off. Those quads are something to be admired and things of beauty. Nothing like seeing them up close. I remember they were there for several hours capturing everything with a Red camera. I chatted with Rob Forte and Kara's husband for a bit. Both cool people. A day or two later Ben Bergeron and his team came through to use our Big Bob. Games week can get exciting when different athletes roll through. If and when they move the venue, I'll miss that.
They are such an inspirational pair of women! I love the humbleness they have and the drive.
Makes me long to got to the gym later.

The Tia and Shane team are Aussie legends! Worked in Gladstone know it well, wish I knew about this community at the time!
I think both of their bodies are immensely attractive? The principal person who takes offense to such bodies are the ones who assume women are supposed to be petite and slim. If you think you have to right to assign a body composition to an entire gender irrespective of that gender's goals, you need to check yourself. Why should a women look frail when her goal is perform? That doesn't make sense. If we say women should be tiny, what do we say about men? That they should be large? How large? Like bodybuilders? Wait, don't people say that's gross? And, what about marathon runners, why should they be large? Here's how I see it: bodies are designed to move, the bodies that move the best are the most developed, the most developed bodies are the most attractive because they do best what they are designed to do. However development manifests itself, so be it, in the end, it's all a reflection of an increased capacity to express our humanness, which is the ultimate display of beauty. It's quite true - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Please don't pretend like what you think is beautiful should align with everybody else.

Like to see someone qualify for some olympic running event and the CF games. That'll be the day.
That probably won't happen any time soon if ever. It definitely wouldn't happen for anything longer than an 800m runner and even then a lot of the things that would make you a good CrossFitter would hurt you as a sprinter and vice versa. Even Dan Bailey who was a 48s 400 runner, now that he's transitioned to solely a CrossFitter said himself that he'd probably struggle to run a 400 in 55s. The Olympic guys are running them in

these athletes are all way too big to qualify for an olympic track event, sprinters are strong and lean, less muscle hypertrophy compared to what is needed for cross fit and distance requires even less. they've got the muscle strength and power but i think their weight would hold them back

You could maybe see a jumper or a short hurdler make it to the games. I think that'd be most likely out of any track athletes.

Right - the first 2 minutes of this video are great, but - let's put it this way. If a guy who ate cheetos every day, who weighs 350lbs came up to me and said, I am proud of my body - I'm calling bullshit.
Take the cars, technology, electricity, combustion engines out of our lives. Take us back 10,000 years, and what were we? Hunter gatherers, active animals in our natural state who had to be active or we would die. If you are overweight and doing something about it, then you have every right to be proud of your body, each and every day that you are striving to make yourself fitter. But if you don't exercise, don't eat right, don't have any thought to your own health, then that's fine - but what on earth do you have to be proud of?
Both of these women are unbelievably impressive humans. Aspire to that. Be an impressive human. Impress yourself. Don't kid yourself.

The elite CrossFit athletes showcase some of the most incredible physiques in sports. Makes me a little sad/angry that some of the female competitors have to deal with what comes down to as 'muscle-shaming'. I'm sure there's a CrossFit equivalent to that saying 'Fu$% 'em if they can't take a joke.' Don't pay any attention to the idjits out there, ladies; you're inspiring a whole new generation of women.
