Hi From Australia. Best Carby Video I've seen. Extremely clear concise and simple. Bout my 13 year old a second hand 11ft Tinnie ( Aluminum Dingy ). Has the exact Motor 5hp Merc 2006. Bought off a mate who elderly father is now to old to use. Its in great condition etc and low hours for age. It was fully serviced 1 year ago but not used once since then. Anyway it went first start/pull, thought great, 3 minutes later it cut out when returned to idle. And wouldn't start or even sound like starting. Let it sit overnight. Went first Pull next day in the shed so gave it flush. That was Monday/Tuesday this week. Today Sunday I gave my Son his Xmas Present and explained its got a fuel issue so cant take it out until get serviced etc. Anyway thought would have a go. Put in the water, went first pull, this time I kept the revs up and gave it a good run just sitting at the dock in neutral for about 8 minutes, if I go back to Idle it want to start cutting out. So after 8 minutes I turned it of and sure again would start at all. Back to garage, let sit for an hour this time, and got it going after 6 or 8 pulls. My Guess and I'm not mechanically minded its getting to much fuel and FLOODING ?? Your thought and would it be the carbi float pin ?? I reakon with your VIdeo Id have teh Confidence to pull Carbi off !! :) Cheers

@@outboardsandtoys8413 hey I have a question . I am looking at diagrams and it does not show it on any of them . The first peace you take off to the carb . The I take if you will . Does it have a V shaped gasket on the other side or do I just tighten the shit out of it to prevent fuel from coming out

When u have a issue with the carb, that issue comes only from the main jet?
    I don t think so…

    I just serviced my 5hp
Had a fuel line blockage. Plenty of fuel available now. But no start

Hey! Anyone know what the blue/black "filter" part underneath the white fuel filter is called? Seen around 2:29 in the video.
I changed the white top filter, but fuel is still not flowing good. Have to prime it every 30 sec or so to keep it running.. I'm suspecting it's partly clogged either in the (male) fuel connector part or in that blue "filter" looking part

Very good description. My motor gives problems at the start of every season. Also the gear change lever breaks if you lay the motor down on that side. Will never buy another Mercury. Yamaha for ever.

Main jet has a thick hole. Low speed jet hole is much thinner and you need to clean it. It is screwed behind the black rubber.
I have done it many times in a large number of carburators that keep getting dirty too easy.
    I'm desperate!

got the same engine, was out at sea and the engine stopped on me, I think the carb is dirty. Hoperfully once i get it off and cleaned it works with no issues

Nice video. This motor is identical to my Nissan 5hp, they must all be made by Tohatsu.
