  • The best laid plans often go awry and this episode we find ourselves pitted against the elements...and fences! In our IVECO Offroad Truck Camper we overland to a remote corner of Australia via a road less travelled to investigate why we can't continue...only to find ourselves bewildered by the options.

    That national park property used to be Avenel Station, where my friend grew up. When her father passed a few yrs ago it was sold and became part of the new NP.
    Its such a treat to be able to see that property. Must be fate the algorithm brought me here!

    Great video Paul. We spent 5 days stranded at Olive Downs in Sturt National Park a few years ago. Doesn’t take much rain to close those roads. We really like travelling the route along the border fence. Looking forward to the next instalment.

      We've concluded - the rain is only a problem if we need to get somewhere by a certain time, otherwise...

    Love the intro in this video 😂
    We had to do the dash across from William creek to Coober pedy once. As more rain was moving in. Getting late in the day and there had been alot of rain in the area and they had diversions out into paddocks around cut up sections of road. I think they were scarier 😂

    Re: Hawker Gate … in the 1970’s we crossed the fence there (or there about) and went west across the desert to Lake Callabonna and then to the Strzelecki track. So I guess there must have been a gate there sometime in the past. Not so many rules in those days.

      That would have been a great era…I was only a lad then and hadn’t discovered the desert - trying to make up for it now.

    I smiled, after I watched the video, and re-read the caption. You wrote not to travel the road alone, which was a complete contradiction, as you travel alone. I travel alone and have done so, as you have, for many years. As long as the vehicle is adequately configured to overcome difficulties, and the driver is competent and experienced, the risks are minimal.
    Keep up the good work guys. I’m looking forward to the ‘lad’ tagging along in the Toyota one day. Cheers. 👍🏻🙏🦘

      We enjoy travelling as a solo vehicle…having others in the vehicle meant I wasn’t ‘alone’ and didn’t have to get in/out of the truck 4 times at every gate!

      We've been through a number of sets of original Crashpad swag poles...the ones we use now are Easton Alloy - they are the best poles available. These were salvaged from a top-end 4 season tent.

    why not solo travel i did all those roads in a Fairmont ghia falcon and got 6inchs of rain in Camron's corner no problem your from QLD by the sound of it LOL letting Tyres down on dirt LMAO

    • @PaulBrookerJOURNi
      @PaulBrookerJOURNi  22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      The reason for not travelling solo…I would have had to get in/out of the truck to open and then close each gate - that equals a lot of in/outs.
      Letting tyres down because standard highway pressure is 65psi…makes for a harsh ride!
      Your adventures in the Fairmont would be most memorable I'm sure.

    How does the Iveco go on corrugations ?
    We just did the Gibb River road in a Hilux based camper and with the weight we could not let the tyres down as much as we would like. So we got murdered with the corrugations. I was wondering how the heavier Iveco would go, and how far you can air down.

    • @PaulBrookerJOURNi
      @PaulBrookerJOURNi  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Highway driving at 65psi…gravel down to 30-40psi - makes a massive difference. Sand 10-20psi. We had some challenges with lower rated tyres not being able to handle the lower pressures…now running 137Q and have no issues. The larger diameter tyres make a difference also.
      We’ve had Dmax in the past…although a capable vehicle it was not comparable to the Iveco.
