that's astonishing the engine is Turbo Charged but still there is some 458 sound out there ! lovely!! !
Never thought Ferrari could ever make a better 458.Always thought when they do it over it will go down hill,i'd like to take that back,this car is so nice.Love how they retained the look of the 458.
The performance variants of the 458 are not extremely remarkable in my opinion. For example, the 458 Speciale is really just a lightened, slightly more powerful version of the standard 458. The only 458 that I find worth noticing is the spider.

Probably the speculated 458M... Sounds extremely good for a turbo though!
The lack of exhaust sound con probably be solved with aftermarket tuners.. But the main issue that should be worrisome is throttle response...!
I know this new Ferrari 458 Turbo is going to be more fuel efficient, has more power and going to be much faster than the 458 Italia N/A V8 but the N/A V8 sound so much better.

I actually think this sounds better than the 458. The 458 always sounded weird to me; sort of synthetic. Yes it was normally aspirated, but it didn't have the classic operatic scream of something like the old 355. This 488 seems sonically more interesting and organic than the 458, with a greater complexity of layered sounds through the rev range...So looking forward to seeing the first road test...

The 458 and its Speciale variant were just LOUD. The 355 had a much better engine note. On engine audio, Porsche has been eating Ferrari's lunch as of late. Except for the F12. The sounds that car makes are rapturous.
The speciale already eats the 650S raw, wonder what kind of humiliation this car will inflect to the supercars world.

Probably not. The manual transmission is slowly but surely being relegated to the dustbin of history. Not really a bad thing in my opinion. It's hard to imagine harnessing the full performance potential of today's top performance cars while manually shifting gears. Besides, the DCT in the Ferrari 458 is utterly brilliant almost beyond words.
For all of you who say it's all about getting as much performance from the engine as possible. It isn't about the performance, it's about the feel of driving and the skill required to rev-match downshifts and heel/toe-ing. Manual gearbox over bloody DCT and autos any day!
The end of NA engines, at least the good ones. But if anyone can make a turbo engine sound great that is Ferrari. They already showed us a bit with California. I'm sure this one is a step or 2 better. The car is beautiful in the few pictures that are out. Ferrari keep increasing the distance to it's rivals more and more.

TheFede8888 Yes I like Ferrari cars, lol. But I like them because Ferrari makes the best sports cars right now. That is according to all tests against Porsche and Mclaren. All car magazines choose 458, Speciale and LaF over their rivals. Even the British choose Ferrari :) So it's not blind love. I actually like Porsche and Mclaren too.
TheFede8888 The 488 GTB is a step up in a number of ways from the Speciale. One of the revised components that has me salivating is the 2nd Gen Side Slip Control. That, and the car's ridiculous power band. I cannot wait to see a comparison test between this and the Mclaren 650/675.
8000 RPM limit?
Best sounding turbocharged engine out there. But sadly, still not as great as Ferrari's N/A V8s of old. Better get used to it, this is the future.
Turbos on higher volume cars enable Ferrari to continue to build lower-volume cars with NA engines. Atmospheric V12s aren't going any damn place. My biggest concern: what in the hell are they going to do to top the F12 Berlinetta?
Ben Krapf I know that. Which is why I can understand the sacrifice of N/A V8s for the survival of N/A V12s. After all, nothing can beat a V12. The F12 is epic, only second in my dream car list to LaFerrari. I'm thinking maybe Ferrari would decrease the displacement of future V12s and make up for the power loss with electric motors. The F12 replacement is going to be more powerful, no doubt.
It's definately a turbocharged V8. We're all expecting something good here!

M stands for Modificato. And it won't be the 458, it will be using the engine from California T - 3,8 l V8, here probably upsized to 4,0 l. Maybe 400M-T or 408M-T...
