Jeeze some of the comments on here are so misinformed. First, the National Guard is providing everything from security to suppression on the fire line. It doesn’t cost extra because the Guard is paid regardless of whether they are assisting during a catastrophe or sitting at home. Second, the reason the California National Guard is deployed is because the governor of the state gave the order. So if the South Carolina Guard wasn’t helping somewhere in the state, it’s because the governor didn’t ALLOW IT! Third, they aren’t arming the guard because they aren’t there to shoot anyone. LA cops do that job. The CA governor doesn’t want armed soldiers putting out fires or moving a yellow slinky!!!! Finally, the CA National Guard has been deployed for disasters (fire & flood) for decades. When I was a new firefighter in 1986 the guard assisted us in a poor area of CA after a record flood 38 years ago. CA governors (liberal or conservative) have approved the guard to assist regardless of location and wealth. So if your guard isn’t helping during your disasters, you’re electing the wrong governors.
When Guard is activated they do receive full-time active duty pay which differs proportionately from their part-time pay. Some senior guard members are likely armed to provide force protection but since the military has an entirely different escalation of force model it's not always appropriate for civil action. It makes more sense to let the guard fill in in positions like traffic control, as seen above in order to free up police and fire to focus on their specialties. That said, the Guard does receive State level civil training that regular active duty does not and Military police in particular are better prepared to work with their civilian counterparts. A number of them also have law enforcement experience in local or nearby communities and are familiar with local laws and law enforcement agencies.

Its like that everywhere, even here in Canada. I was in the army and was deployed many places during natural disasters, mostly flooding. The military is a last resort as it costs alot of money. We did everything from fire fighting, bagging dykes, filling sand bags, manning vehicle check points and roaming patrols. So many looters and so many people going to check on their houses in a unsafe area and then need to be rescued.
It makes me wanna watch movie marathon Zombie movies or any Apocalypse right now! This is surreal! Stay strong California! Thank you for your service 🇺🇸 I feel like we need to be asking the question if the chemicals they use for cloud seeding could cause the fires to become worse when they get started. Do those chemicals remain on the ground and vegetation causing the fires to ignite and spread worse than they would with a natural fire ? I really think this needs to be looked into. Canada had horrible fires that spread out of control. Not to mention what happened in Hawaii. Of course there's other factors going on with the fires but I can't help but think that possibly the chemicals might have something to do with it spreading so quickly.

Like in Lahaina... first the fire department, then the police, then the National Guard... no one can get onto their property anymore!
Its like that everywhere, even here in Canada. I was in the army and was deployed many places during natural disasters, mostly flooding. The military is a last resort as it costs alot of money. We did everything from fire fighting, bagging dykes, filling sand bags, manning vehicle check points and roaming patrols. So many looters and so many people going to check on their houses in a unsafe area and then need to be rescued.
That's why people stay with their home (and perhaps die). You can leave any time you like, but you can't re-enter.
Looks like they are protecting thier vehicles not neighborhood.
It makes me wanna watch movie marathon Zombie movies or any Apocalypse right now! This is surreal! Stay strong California! Pls build homes that is made of cement or concrete so it won’t get burned again by who knows someone if intentional or not! My heart is broken out here inspite I don’t live there! Pray for strength! I feel like we need to be asking the question if the chemicals they use for cloud seeding could cause the fires to become worse when they get started. Do those chemicals remain on the ground and vegetation causing the fires to ignite and spread worse than they would with a natural fire ? I really think this needs to be looked into. Canada had horrible fires that spread out of control. Not to mention what happened in Hawaii. Of course there's other factors going on with the fires but I can't help but think that possibly the chemicals might have something to do with it spreading so quickly.
When we know that Los Angeles and California are managed by the Democrats we understand the disaster better
