    Lyrics
    Spanish songs in Andalucia
The shooting sites in the days of '39
Oh, please, leave the ventana open
Fredrico Lorca is dead and gone
Bullet holes in the cemetery walls
The black cars of the Guardia Civil
Spanish bombs on the Costa Rica
I'm flying in on a DC 10 tonight
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
yo te acuerda oh mi corazón
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
yo te acuerda oh mi corazón
Spanish weeks in my disco casino
The freedom fighters died upon the hill
    They sang the red flag
    They wore the black one
But after they died it was Mockingbird Hill
Back home the buses went up in flashes
The Irish tomb was drenched in blood
    Spanish bombs shatter the hotels
My senorita's rose was nipped in the bud
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
yo te acuerda oh mi corazón
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
yo te acuerda oh mi corazón
The hillsides ring with "Free the people"
Or can I hear the echo from the days of '39?
    With trenches full of poets
The ragged army, fixin' bayonets to fight the other line
    Spanish bombs rock the province
I'm hearing music from another time
Spanish bombs on the Costa Brava
I'm flying in on a DC 10 tonight
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
yo te acuerda oh mi corazón
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
yo te acuerda oh mi corazón
Spanish songs in Andalucia, Mandolina, oh mi corazon
Spanish songs in Granada, oh mi corazon

My favorite Clash song. My dad and I used to fight a lot in my teenage years but everytime we were alone together, we would listen to this. I still remember being 5 and singing the chorus at the top of my lungs with him in the car. Our family is Spanish but I never connected the dots until now. Dad passed 5 months ago, I hope he knows that everytime I play this, I’m thinking of him and wishing we could sing this at the top of our lungs for one last time. Miss you Reginaldo Peres, you’ll always be my Spanish bomb.

There is little doubt in my mind that listening to The Clash made me more aware of the world around me and my place in it. My favourite song by The Clash. Contrasts contemporary Spain (with its beaches, casinos, and many tourists) with its violent history (a murderous authoritarian successfully coming to power) and instability hidden just under the surface, in which Western tourists are unaware or ignorant to the countries disturbing politics. The song mixes unsettling political and historical references ("Federico Lorca is dead and gone" "The freedom fighters died upon the hill") with trivial and superficial phrases ("Spanish weeks in my disco casino" "I'm flyin' in on a DC 10 tonight") and nonsensical Spanish lyrics. The songs upbeat positive tune also contrasts with the stark lyrics.

Increíble que una de las más grandes bandas punks de la historia haya incorporado el español a sus composiciones (la otra es should i stay or should i go, en los coros) me hace ver lo grandes compositores que eran.

@Bill Carson By the way it's Español (pronounced Es_ PAN_yol) not Espenol. The first Spanish lyric, "ventana" means window. The Spanish lyric, "Señorita" pronounced Sen-YOR-it's means miss as in Miss So and so. The Spanish lyrics in the chorus, "yo te quiero infinito, yo te acueda, oh mi corazón" means "I love you to infinity, I remember you, oh my heart"

I think this song exemplifies the importance of music in communicating information and the emotions associated with them. I had next to no knowledge about the Spanish Civil War nor the other uprisings mentioned in the song, and it was this song that pushed me to research them. And I’m very glad, being American the Spanish Civil War very much echos the state of my country today.
