    Yes. I was in leadership for so long. Yet I prefer the creative solo work.

      That's wonderful that you found what works well for you. Based on your creative work and all the people you influence, I'd say you are still a leader. :) Thanks for engaging!

    The only reason im watching this video is because my department director and department manager wanted me to research peer to leadership. I recently got "promoted" from a job coach to a job coach 2. They currently have no defined roles for the job coach 2, so im doing my previous job tasks on top of additional responsibilities. Honestly i feel like im about to quit.

      Im sorry to hear that! Cool about the promotion tho! Is anyone in the job coach 1 role now or is it just you? I’m going to look for my videos on RACI matrixes. You are likely going to have to define your own role. th-cam.com/video/mB9huNipPqY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FrFncaL5cNtl6Gk- this video may help you. It’s an overview and I have a free checklist in there.

      Yes, I have 4 job coach 1's in a lesser role than I play. They are being told to report to me and I'm being told to give feedback on their performance daily. But it just makes me look like the bad guy now. Cause I notice everything. (Hence my 'promotion') but I have yet to be able to reformulate a connection with the job coach 1's. I feel a bit lost at the moment having only been in this role for the last month.

      @@BOOGiNS if it were me, I would start with an open team convo or you could do this 1:1 with each of them, and just be honest that this is a new role for you and you’re being asked to create it without much direction. I’d flip that story you may be telling yourself that this stinks to excitement over the fact that you get to create this role into whatever you and the team want. Think of the type of leader you wished you had when you were a job coach 1. You get to be the person who helps others grow and removes any barriers they have to doing a good job in their work. That’s really empowering. Idk that I’d lean into daily feedback before I have these convos and establish some ideas for what your new role can do to support them first and then help them grow with feedback. Your’re right - you’ve got to establish those relationships first. Write down all the ideas you and your team have for how your leadership role is different and can support the team. Write down any projects or wishes you had when you were job coach 1 that you never had the capacity to do. And that is the start of your new job responsibilities. And then I’d be sure to set up 1:1’s with your leader to share your learnings and establish your own expectations for the role and get their buy in. And I’d also set up 1:1’s with each job coach 1 and share that it’s dedicated time for them with you to share what they are working on and escalate barriers. And then it’s also a time for you to provide feedback and help them with their barriers and prioritize their work. Gotta start with the basics and build this new role up. And transition out of doing job coach 1 stuff and into a leader as coach 2

      Thank you very much for you input and insight into my situation. I appreciate you taking the time to give me genuine feedback. I will take this info to heart and make an effort to apply it.

      @BOOGiNS of course! You got this! My email inbox is open if you have more questions - Kayla@KFAConsulting.org. But I am 37 weeks pregnant so if for some reason I do not get back to you, it’s probably bc I’m on maternity leave 😆 best of luck!

    I am walking into a new position as a assistant site supervisor. Do you have any advice of what should I do on the first day?

    • @kaylafaheyahrndt
      @kaylafaheyahrndt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on your new role! That's awesome! Have you been a supervisor before? My best advice is "Go slow to move fast." So I'd start by "going to Gemba." Not sure if you're familiar with the term, but it just means go to where the work is done and observe. Basically in the first days, weeks, and months, consider it a time for learning and observing. Get to know people and how they work and like to communicate. Make note of what is going well and what people see as opportunities for improvement. Make note of people with influence who you wan to get to know better. Become a trusted member of the team by showing you're interested and invested in the people, and then after you feel like you've got a good handle on things, you can then start to make some improvements and help others move forward on their projects. Not sure if this is a new company for you or just new position, but if you're already part of the team and it's a promotion, you'll have to figure out your new relationship dynamic with your people. If you're interested in diving more into the questions I'd be asking or the tools I'd use to set up my new role, I'll be posting a new video shortly with a free new role checklist! And the timing is funny, but I'm launching a new role course and will be sharing it in that video. I'm hoping to get it posted today or tomorrow. Best of luck! Please stay connected and let me know how it goes! Message me on IG @kfaconsulting or email me kayla@kfaconsulting.org
