- In this video, I test out the Normcore Portafilter holder with a bunch of common portafilters, to see how well it does holding them.

Love the video Tom! I want one know. I am always going from a ecp to a 58mm. I love the idea of it fitting every thing for me 👍🏽😎☕️
I like your content Toms, out of the box and authentic
Hi Tom: That was the first accessory I bought when I started my Espresso journey. Mine came with an additional half moon insert that appears to possibly help with different handle shapes. Thanks for your reviews as usual!
I wasn't sure how those inserts worked...it seemed to take up too much space for the spouts when I inserted them. Do you use them?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner No, I don’t use them myself. Must be for some kind of special case portafilter.
Man i love yours video's
Your video's make me buy my own espresso machine
Glad you like them!
wow what a comprehensive review of a gadget.
If I WDT or shake, I like the portafilter to be horizontal, otherwise grounds and/or fines migrate to the lower side during puck prep.
I achieve this by using a bottomless portafilter and placing it on the countertop with the handle over the side of the countertop.
One hand holds the portafilter and the other does the puck prep.
Long term storage of my portafilter is done by keeping it in the machine, with the insertion using very light force to not compress the seal.
My experience with a slightly tilted puck (versus horizontal) is that it can lead to a slight reduction in the extraction ,
and not change the taste profile,
so a mere mortal should not be able to detect the difference by tasting.
As far as this gadget goes, some improvements to the shape and design come to mind
that would make it more universal with more baskets being truly horizontal in the gadget.
Thanks for your comprehensive comment ;)
This gadget isn't perfect, but it's honestly a good help to me for my videos, to free up one hand. I'm surprised at how tiny the thing is, and it works. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Good point. I was mainly sharing my experience.
There was a time when I was using spouted portafilters and it was annoying trying to park the portafilter.
I have tried a Pesado portafilter that is really heavy and is spouted. I did not care for it.
I really wish someone made a light mostly insulated portafilter as that would speed up my workflow considerably.
Excelent video, do you know a holder that works well with the 51mm Delonghi La Specialista
I am not sure about Lelit VIP portafilters
Für den bodenlosen Portafilter verwende ich einen Eishockey Puck als Unterlage. Perfekte Höhe, nix wackelt, braucht wenig Platz und ist leicht zu reinigen 😊
Hoffentlich ohne Wachs 😉
@@JTPerfomance good idea 👍🏻
50 Euros is a bit much for a portafilter holder imo.
@@cristinmarius I agree. I think all of their products are overpriced. But, somehow they are popular.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Overpriced and not very useful, compared to either practice or a superior cheaper competitor's product.
