  • Today I received my retail version of the Garmin Enduro 3. In order to assist people in decided on whether they should opt for the Garmin Fenix 8 or maybe even keep their old watch and skip this generation, I've given my thoughts on what I like and what Garmin should have changed/added.
    Hope you enjoy!

    Great review! I have had many Garmin watches over the years. I have had several Instincts, and different Fenix versions. I have the Enduro 3 now and a couple weeks in, it is by far my favorite. I am an avid outdoorsman who hunts, backpacks, runs, etc and it does everything I need.
    For watch faces, I would give GLANCE a try from the IQ store. Its the best that I have found and very customizable. A bit of a learning curve but is the best watch face in my opinion

      Awesome! I’ll give it a try. So far, I’m enjoying it as well, it’s awesome. The stock watch face isn’t bad at all either. And I’ve been playing with the FaceIT app, you just can’t get a lot of data on it.
      Thanks for watching!!

    I went from a Fenix 3 without HR to a Fenix 6X PRO. The 6X is still working great. I do use the map feature on hikes in places that I have never been to. I use GPX files I upload from hiking sites in order not to get lost on the trails. That works great for me. I agree that the zoom and panning features are difficult to use without touch but I never felt the need to use that. Navigating a trail works just fine without having to zoom or pan. The only feature the Enduro has I would like is the flash light. Other than that my 6X is still doing everything I need it to do. Inreach support ia an interesting idea but I don't think that will be possible due to the size of the satellite radio and antenna needs. As for the MIP display resolution, yes an increase would be nice but it is not a deal breaker for me. As mentioned, I'm still very happy with my Fenix 6X. Also no screen protector and not a single scratch on it after three years or so of daily use.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The 6X is a legend. One thing I forgot to mention when handing the 6x to my son is the image screen on the E3 is larger than the 6X. It makes a difference, but isn’t game changing.
      The flashlight is awesome.

    Good video, thanks. I have a 6X Pro and I don't use a screen protector. I'm a bicycle mechanic and bicycle messenger so the watch hasn't led the easiest life in terms of impacts and coming into contact with sharp metallic objects. The sapphire glass has zero marks or scratches on it. Completely unblemished.
    I have been thinking about getting the Enduro 3, but I'm not sure I see it as enough of an upgrade of features in order to justify the money. It's just not all that different from the 6X (as you allude to in your video). I would be interested in receiving a Training Readiness score, which the E3 has, but again, hard to justify the money just for that feature.
    Anyway, my 2 cents.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You aren’t wrong. One thing I noticed today is the display area of the E3 is bigger than the 6x pro, again, not a “gotta have it” feature, but a nice upgrade.
      The 6x pro is a very, very, good watch. And waiting this upgrade cycle isn’t a bad choice. It has more upgrades than say a 7x, but if someone wants to keep the 6x until the Fenix 9 or e4, I totally see the logic.
      Thanks for watching!!

    You nailed it. I own a Inreach Explorer + to stay connected while doing mountaneering but Is so much redundancy for navigation. So also I would pay the money if I could have everything on the watch

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      How long do you need the watch to run in max-GPS mode while mountaineering? I wonder how much battery life you'd sacrifice to have the inReach capability and if it'd make it a non-starter? Maybe Garmin has thought about it?
      But yeah, I figure if Garmin could give me 2 weeks+ in smartwatch mode and 72hrs in GPS-activity tracking mode, I would take those sacrifices for inReach.

  • @techliso
    @techliso 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    That's a true point, the MIP would be really better with a higher resolution. This is basically the same display, already the 3rd generation, that was on the Fenix 6X.
    The Fenix 8 Amoled would be better if it would have a solar charging, from my pov. Just imagine the same or similar battery life between MIP and Amoled versions.
    And personally, I'd like to see the Enduro 3 have upgraded buttons as well (as the Fenix 8 series), as there've been plenty of reports from users of leakage issues on previous (Fenix 7) gen. watches.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      All good points. I didn’t know the buttons were an issue, I was lucky with my 3 and 6x; however, I don’t swim constantly either.
      The enduro 3 would have been awesome with the inductive buttons.

    I loved this video. I’m really glad to hear the screen is better than the 7 series. That’s what was holding me back. I don’t like amoled because less battery, possibly less longevity and another smartphone screen in my face. The MIP feels more natural. So compared to the 6x, the clarity is pretty much the same? Just reflections are worse on enduro? I honestly think this is the best Garmin watch to get right now and I see it lasting many many years. Definitely a great investment. Thanks for a great video.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes, first impression is the Enduro 3 is as sharp as the 6x Pro, but more prone to reflections. I would even venture to say it might appear sharper, but this is a very objective observation.
      Remember, my 6x Pro has a thin glass screen protector over the bezel and my Enduro does not. The bezel protector not only can mitigate reflections but also will effect light transmission to some degree as well.
      The difference is very slight. I'll still put a protector on my Enduro and the reflection off the crystal isn't really that bad in use, it's more of a huge issue when trying to film it!!

      So the fenix 6x pro has same screen as enduro 3? They haven't further improved the mip screen?

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@bilaltahir9978 , I haven't been able to identify if the hardware is identical. Resolution is identical; however, which was one of the things I was disappointed in with the Fenix 8 (and moved me to the Enduro).
      I'm looking at the data screens post-work out and the font is different, which looks much sharper and clearer, but I don't think that's due to screen tech as much as it is software tweaks and improvements.
      In the sun, the sapphire screen does reflect things very much, which in some situations (even in bright sunlight) it makes it harder to read smaller font data on the watch face compared to my Fenix 6x Pro with Gorilla Glass and a screen protector.
      I'm hoping a screen protector on the Enduro 3 will reduce the reflections on the watch face.

    I really highly agree with your review! I first wanted to get the Garmin Fenix 8 Solar 51mm but after a little thinking I realized I wouldn't be using the microphone nor the diving fonctions after all. Well, it's nice to have it but I don't need those... So, I purchased the Enduro 3 (which is still in the mail) and I am happy of my choice. I was first worried the plastic wouldn't as durable as the material of the Fenix 8 but as Dave said from Chase The Summit Channel: How often is your watch exposed to the elements? Not a lot... So, I guess it's going to be durable enough. I agree it's completely overkilled for 95% of the people out there but I, like you, enjoy the premium feel to it and a long battery life really matters because I sometimes venture myself in the outdoors. So I can benefit from that! I suppose the less you have to charge it, the longer the battery will last. My Fenix 6X Pro Solar doesn't hold its charge anymore as two years ago. But it is still a very perfomant piece of gear! I just wanted to update. So, with my Suunto Vertical Solar on my left wrist and my upcoming Enduro 3 on the right wrist, I will be able to enjoy long sessions in the outdoors without getting lost :D
    I also hope the light weight and the new Gen 5 heartrate sensor will give me more accurate data for my daily health. I guess it should.
    I've subscribed :D

      @@Steginko the structure is different, this is confirmwd by garmin. All previous fenixes up until 6 were similar and robust. They made 7 in a different way. On my own buttons were not working but garmin claimed it works as it should. They sent it back to me after checking and the buttons still did not work, youd need to press multiple times to get functioning press. I went back to my 6x. Still going strong. I would have been ok to try another 7x but they refused and claimed the buttons were as they should. BS.

    Yeah, I have watched them all and drooling over it, until mine arrives on 17th.
    But this is really one of the best reviews that I have seen yet. Maybe because most of them are more sports based and while I am getting back into sports, the reason to buy this is the weight, battery life, flashlight, materials and Garmins ecosystem. Battery life is the most important to me.
    Until now I had Polar M430 that has smart functions and long life thanks to its B&W screen. But Polar is not innovating, even my Polar Balance scale wouldn't work with newer Polar watches like Grit 2.
    So I said F U Polar (Literally on their Facebook page) for forcing me to wear this old thing loyally waiting for something better, anything.
    But nothing like Enduro was ever made by them. So I got tje Garmin scale and Enduro 3 and I can't wait.

      You’ll love it!! I’ve done some hiking with my wife and just casual walking and playing with the new Garmin Connect data and liking it more every day. It’s an absolutely awesome daily wear watch.
      I’ve charged it once, I didn’t need too, about a week ago and still have 26 days left, even with recording activities daily as I try to get into a routine.
      For me, the flashlight is the #1 “daily life” feature. I use it all the time and the one on my phone less and less. It’s great to have both hands free with the light.

    I want to know if the processor is good enough to render maps as quickly as an Apple Watch Series 5 of 5 years ago running “work out doors” app in a MIP display on the enduro 3.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I'll have to borrow my dad's apple watch and compare. MIP screens by default refresh slower, they aren't going to animate like AMOLED. The thing about the Enduro 3 though, is I believe I could easily run it in map mode, GPS, and logging a 3-4 day off road adventure, pausing only at night, and never have to charge it.
      That's going to be one of my tests in the future. I plan on using multi-sport activities so I can log the driving portion from my hiking portions separately.

    Is it worth updating to the enduro 3 if you already have the 6x pro? What does the enduro 3 pro offer in addition to better battery life?

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      I found the flashlight, overall weight, and touchscreen to be worth the upgrade. I’ve yet to use the ECG or upgraded sensors yet. Screen appears sharper.
      It’s a tough call because the 6x Pro is so awesome. I get some help from work as part of some fitness programs, so it’s easier for me to justify a 4 year upgrade cycle. But even at retail, there is a case for upgrading. I’ll use maps more with the touchscreen and the flashlight is great and the screen is sharper than a discounted Fenix 7.
