The fact the Black American veterans were denied the G.I. Bill makes me very sad. I love my country and I am a veteran myself, but this particular fact hurts.

Back in the day, colleges and other services simply did not accept them even with the bill or blocked them in other ways like requirements, money and etc. They can now of course but they are either too old or dead to use them.

My father actually passed his GI bill to me for college (since he did not attend college after serving). I'm extremely grateful. Thank you for the video! I've been wanting to learn the history of this.

This is very intersting to read. The GI Bill was able to be passed on to children of veterans who did not attend college?

2:44 "The general idea that we should be treating out veterans better comes from the GI.."
Actually it comes from the 1970's when Vietnam Vets returned and were demonized by a vocal segment of society, castigated, called baby-killers and so on. Many of those guys are gone now, but you might remember them as homeless street people in the 80's-mid '90's. Many were treated like dirt. When 9/11 happened America made an unspoken effort to never treat service members in the same manner. The vietnam war protesters saw no distinction between the US Government that prosecuted the war and the actual men and women who fought it. We sought to remedy that problem.

Thanks for the knowledge. Good luck with your show, man. I mean it. You've got a camera personality that I think would do well on TV.

Yes, more current events. But always with a view of history please.
It is important to recognize that we were the only large country not invaded and our economy was supplying the recovering rest of the world. It is not good history to imply that free college education, free down payments, and unemployment benefits contributed in any way to prosperity. The money was borrowed, and the free stuff created moral hazards; problems that don't show up until later.
June 14th is on my calendar.

The GI bill was a direct result of the failures of what happened in World War 1 OR World War 2? (I guess in the video both the times a different world war is mentioned).
