- Zeus network is toxic and full of people who thrive on negativity #zeus #reality
It’s a difference between reality tv documenting real life, the positive and the negative as opposed to only focusing on the negative because that’s what gets the most views
Why is your entire platform full of people getting beat up and bullied ALL THE TIME?
And why do we as consumers watch?
I get that a large majority of the population thrives off of negativity
And most dont want to see positivity all the time
They wanna see something that catches their eye and entertains them
But in these enviornments Its natural for there to be conflict between people
So even if the shows were structured a different way
you would still get the fights, the bickering, and the going back and forth - all the stuff that keeps you watching
But you’d also recieve insight on better ways to handle conflict as opposed to getting physical, risking losing your life, or your freedom.
Anyways, if you’re someone who watches the network do you think they’ll pivot and bring new content?
And if they don’t will you continue to watch?

I got a teensy view into the world of reality TV when my brother and I auditioned for LEGO Masters. Perhaps this is just my naivete, but what struck me most was how much the show was *cast* rather than *auditioned for*. The producers were looking for a set of flashy personalities they thought would sell on TV. Personalities who would hold attention when placed within a franetic game show environment. During our audition process, we worked with a casting director who'd try to help "pitch us" by simplifying, filtering & exaggerating parts of our story.
(Neadless to say we didn't get cast, ultimately.)
Your excellent analysis makes me think about how Zeus cast a set of characters and then placed them in an environment where the worst parts of them could be on display.
I like that you call out how the forces of capitalism encourage this. I suspect there's (at least) one specificaspect of capitalism at play here: venture-backed enterprises need to provide a return on investment quickly, or be shut down. Risk is not rewarded -- quick wins are. So, while a show which fosters redemption & balance might actually achieve a lot of success eventually, it is much riskier to pull off than quick, toxic spectacle. Toxic spectacle that often fits the racial & genre stereotypes Americans know well 😔
To me, there's at least one thing I can do to help counter this: stick with creatives as they find their voice & niche, even it if takes a while. I feel optimistic that the more decentralized world of online media (TH-cam, TIkTok, Patreon), in contrast to centralized networks like Zues or Netflix, can help foster this.

I really your comment on this it spoke to a lot. That’s really an interesting story about your experience with Lego because evidently it tells a lot about the entire culture of reality tv. And I definitely agree with your last statement. Social media has allowed us to view so many talents that would’ve otherwise gone unnoticed or had have been broken from extensive loopholes. That lady in that second show you talked about does that act from the camera you can tell because it doesn’t sound right when she curses 😂, so tired of the lack of good black media gotten to the point where I’ve watched every episode of family guy more than I can count, I don’t think their gonna stop making content like this eventually people will get bored of it but it will unfortunately have its successor
