  • Video on how to install a hidden garage door button on your Jeep! This same process will work with any other vehicle, but in specific, this is done on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. I used 18GA wire, some quick connects (2 male, 2 female connectors), and some soldering. You can get a good cheap soldering iron from Harbor Freight for around $15.

    Another option would have been to use a little longer extension cord so that the original remote could still be hidden yet a little more accessible. You could even use a small velcro tape combination so that you could install one side to the back of maybe the glove box, and the other on the remote. That way if you ever need to replace the battery, you can easily access it, remove it and place it back and know it is securely fastened. Liked the mod though.

    Thumbs up for seeing a young man with some knowledge of tools and the initiative to use them. Also for showing us when things didn't work the first time.
    Thumbs down for the location of the switch, requiring the dash to be taken apart just to change a battery. Also for the annoying and unnecessary "music."
    Thanks for the video. Was helpful even if I don't go this route.

    That support beam is totally necessary. For sport jeeps there is a screw that mounts your dash under you radio. The screw is located under the window module

    That base model life my daily doesn’t have garage homelink I know the struggle. I opted to buying a key fob style opener put it on my keys with a removable key ring less intrusive.

    I just found a used rear view mirror on eBay with built in homelink and auto dimming. Installed it connected it to the 12v accessory so it only works when the ignition is on.

    Nice Mod. I'm impressed. Gives me some additional ideas for other things.

    That little piece you trimmed in order for the button to fit is where the 7mm screw goes into to hold the lower part of the faceplate trim. Hopefully your faceplate stays in place. Mine popped out of that hole once and the faceplate had a gap around it.

      NoCoRideshare i have no gaps! But this is good info to know

      There should be a small metal fitting in that square hole that the 7mm screw goes into. You access it by removing the power window switch. Dig the videos.

      NoCoRideshare thanks! When i first removed my dash, i thought that the taking out the window switches to unscrew the bolt was kinda annoying, so i never put the screw back in.. 🤣🤣😂

    I like the idea. Only things that concern me are when it's time to replace the battery, you'll have to take it all apart again. Also, how is the range? Was it affected?

    • @developmentdivision122
      @developmentdivision122  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D E yeah true, but the batteries in these things last quite a long time. Maybe someone can figure out a way to use the cars battery to power the garage key? And the range is pretty much the same as before, I haven’t noticed a difference.

      I was thinking if you're going to do this, why even keep the battery. Just take the watch batteries out, test them and see what voltage the garage door opener requires. And solder your positive and negative to the garage door opener circuit. Then you may have to add resistors bc I'm sure they only require about 3 volts or less. I also would run a fuse like a 3 amp so it's not getting too many. Than you never worry about batteries

    Looks good. I'm a little confused why it's not hooked up to the empty switch on the switch plate though. You said it used to be but not anymore? Sure I'm missing something.

    great idea! looks like your always thinking, i know you know you should have looked at the button clearance before your drilling, and as some one mentioned long wires in a locaton to hide when needed to replace batteries, outstanding idea , great to see a young man make a better mouse trap,, would taking the battery wires from the remote and run to a hot , would that work?

    • @developmentdivision122
      @developmentdivision122  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Berry McGregor yes you can run it to the car power. You will most likely need a voltage converter or something like that bc garage keys don’t operate at 12V

    • @_1ben
      @_1ben 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@developmentdivision122 a converter would work, i would think to keep it simple and replace the battery, i like your idea and will use this on a golf cart , the appearance is what I'm looking for, thank you

    Is it possible for the garage door opener to be converted to a switch and not a button? If so would it be as easy as this?

    What happens when the battery dies in the garage door opener that you hid behind your center console? LOL smh

    • @BradleyCodes
      @BradleyCodes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those batteries are triggered by a momentary switch and are used for milliseconds at a time. I have never seen one of them die, and the fact that your saying he shouldn’t have done this because it might die like 10 years from now is kind of ridiculous. People also have house keys, so if it dies I’m sure he’ll be just fine.
