I prefer the album arrangement with the strings, and without her thinking she has to liven it up for the stage by adding in extra phrases and variety to the vocals. The smooth straightforward delivery just seems more dramatic to me. But this is still a bang up rendition.
I love the album version but must to say Stevie is a poet, very real one and changing the lyrics a bit is her evolving through years and understanding the song differently, I don’t think she thinks she have to do it to amaze us, I think she’s desperately trying to tell us how she feels right in the moment about the song
