The part that impacted me the most was when Mr. Storr drove home the point regarding what really matter is the connection you have with people. Especially, when people can judge people by the cover at times when at the end of the day.. most people just want to relate and connect with one another. Keep up the great work Ali!

Wow, what a great conversation! Regarding the gender differences in status games, your conversation reminded me of a prior piece of content I watched in which an entrepreneur explained that women tend to make better company executives than men. The claim was that biologically, estrogen induces nurturing while testosterone induces dominance, and women executives tend to lean towards nurturing the growth of a company more than men of whom a greater part would bounce from the company and start their own. Then again, since we have higher order thinking processes such as values, we can override our biological impulses by thinking about acting in accordance to our hierarchy of values. Obviously this isn't always the case, but it made an impression on me on how our own hormones can have an effect on the types of impulses we have to negotiate with depending on gender! Brilliant interview, I really enjoyed this one.

My favourite story was the style of parenting in different social classes. Whether the parents place themselves above a child, does have a big impact on the sense of status a child develops - it really helps to explain the idea behind liberal parenting.

You want to understand social status and society? Give Sociology (as well as Social Sciences in general) the respect it deserves. People don’t know the subject and even a bit of the concepts will help you make sense of the world.

when I saw the title I thought hm this might be interesting so I listened to it 10 min..then I was like okay that’s simply sociology. I have a bachelor degree in sociology and people would never understand what this is about and therefore don’t respect it as a very important scientific discipline. To me it helps very well to understand social groups and how to behave in order to be accepted or whatever (eg. job interviews). Works very well

Maybe it is not destination or journey, but purpose? Instead of tying one’s life to one specific moment (destination) or only focusing on the here and now (journey) it could be about a feeling, a way of doing things, a purpose, which leads us through our lives.

I have never understood social class I come from a low- middle class environement but I go to museums, to the opera and I eat biodynamic food because I like them! I am also an enterpreneur and investor! I don't do what society consider working class things!! If you want, you can do things that are considered high class for example going to the opera is cheaper than a football ticket.

30:27 I thoroughly disagree with this generalised notion of gender but it’s a generalisation at the the end of the day. Also, you cannot just discount sexism whenever convenient. Upbringing and work environments are as gendered as people in society. P.S. I’m appalled he said that socialisation is dubious.
