Yaay to longer videos because the topics you are discussing surely need more time!👌🏾
On society telling us what to do, I know it's hard to listen to our inner voice, especially when we are young(er).
Like Fiona said, it took her a while to finally embrace what she wanted to pursue.
While you might have to do a course you loathe to appease the parent/guardian, or stay in a job that stresses you, normalize making your exit plan in whatever way you can, however small.
If it means staying up watching TH-cam tutorials, taking a free online class, apprenticeship - do that. Feeding your soul will make the journey more bearable and the transition (if/when it happens) easier.
Closely related are normalizing change and letting go/walking away.
You can change your mind about a person or thing. Just because you spoke 'badly' about plantain today, doesn't mean you can't leave the dark side tomorrow. No one will beat you 😅
You have posted your person on every platform, multiple times a month for years and now it's no longer working.
You are ready to leave but "what will the internet in laws say?"
Please, you can't postpone your peace of mind because of this.
Let us normalize walking out of friendships/relationships/jobs which no longer serve us. It is hard and in many cases there is a lot of background chaos to deal with ( like right now getting a job is arguably more difficult) . However, when we start to realise that we are losing ourselves, possibly turning to harmful coping mechanisms getting depressed (amongst other things), we should allow ourselves the chance at freedom which will (eventually) come after the initial discomfort.
We deserve joy in this life of sin. For the things we can control - we should do our best to choose what gives us the most joy/peace.
I don't quite know how to phrase this last one but we should normalize giving and receiving constructive feedback.
In the service industry for example, we can count on one hand, how many businesses have treated us like we are worthy.
[If you are reading this, in Kampala, I have a pretty good idea which establishments you're thinking about😉]
    Abalala batulisa bubi sente zaffe.
Since we have been dealt with delays, incompetence, corruption etc, we have grown to expect this. You will be shocked how things can change when you share feedback in a civil way (unfortunately some people only react when called out loudly/ on social media- if at all)
Sitting quietly when you're charged extra or as someone jumps the queue in a hospital/bank/supermarket, after you've waited for hours - won't help you or the next person.
I have seen so many people's faces change instantly when they are told what they are called out on their behavior because they aren't accustomed to being told the truth.
Let people know that doing better will yield results for them. Everyone wins.
On the other hand, if someone tells you that your communication is lacking, a product you gave them got torn/broken immediately after purchase or that your customer relations person was rude to them - listen and learn instead of yelling, defending self or blocking them.
Some people are malicious, yes but sometimes the criticism is for our own good.
But bambi, in general, let us mind our business.
If each time we wanted to start unsolicited conversations about another person's weight, relationship status, job..., we instead focused on improving an aspect of our own lives, we would be FAR.
As always, thumbs up to the wonderful trio. We are hooked 😍.

SIS! Where to start. "We deserve joy in this life of sin" It's a lowkey summary of all the things we hope to normalise one day. Choose you daily even though it isnt (almost always) easy, it is a long term investment in your peace and joy.
Got to agree on constructive criticism as well. And a big cheers to minding our business and staying hydrated.
Thank you so much for watching and for always sharing your thoughts so generously. We stay learning from you, ma'am. :)

The day I normalized being myself without fear of judgment (self confessed people pleaser), it was my real Independence Day. The things I have been able to do and achieve since - I start to wish I was this way during my 20s and early thirties…
Today is the first time I am hearing of Toxic Christianity because indeed that’s what it is. Goodness and geez… sometimes I even think God stands at the sidelines and wonders what’s going on with his toddlers …

This episode was brilliant. It ended when I was still watching banange. Loved it! I think people should normalize not insisting on asking beyond what someone is willing to tell you. I feel like follow up questions to some topics are unnecessary and may be uncomfortable for example if someone told you they were at the hospital and that's all they are willing to tell you at that point, normalize not asking 'for what' because it could be uncomfortable for them to say. It's better you simply say, oh, I hope you feel better, or i hope it's not bad or something and if they go ahead to tell you why they were at the hospital, then that's the decision they've made. If they don't it should also be okay.

    • @theunpopularopinionug

I feel like there is this entrepreneurship boob with millennials that they make it seem like if you are not starting a business or creating something, you are not winning. I completely failed to fit into the Ugandan educational system. I moved to Uganda when I was 16 from Southern Africa.
The memorizing of subjects failed me. I was not able to critically think without a teacher telling me off. That system was horrible. I failed high school and didn't make it to Makerere. However, I got employment because of the way I presented myself. Any way, when I moved to the west, I went back to school and guess what. I fit in like a glove. No memorizing, instead it's presentations , asking questions, group work, quizzes, proper assignments. I loved it.
Those nurses should know that there are children born with diabetes and skinny people who also have diabetes. They need to educate themselves.

Speaking of people judging, i disagree, the Bible says that we shall judge Agels and also, there is positive criticism which is mistaken for judgement and this is very important for growth and development.
