I'm a retired Teamster with millions of driving miles across all of America with many trips to Europe, UK, Canada and Mexico. This was the best, the most beautiful, the most fun drive I've ever done. My face hurt from smiling so much. Go off season, support local business and leave the camper at home. There were lots of "Van Life" types filling every free lot and a lot of places were semi-hostile to them. Take your time and enjoy it.
We'll be doing the NC500 early July. We hired a campervan and will be traveling it with 3 of my best mates. We hired the van for 9 days, 7 of those will be to do the NC500. I can't wait to go on this unforgetable adventure!
My advice would be don't think of this route as something to somehow tick off a bucket list. It's become a 'route' that can't really deal with the amount of traffic and footfall. Please be open minded to visiting other parts of the Scottish highlands. Just as impressive in similar and very different ways.
Hi mate just purchased your NC 500 book and watch you NC 500 videos. We are planning to go there in March in our VW camper van. Looking forward and will get some tips from you book. Thank you Wayne
Hi Robbie, just back from the NC500, had an absolutely amazing time. Just wanted to say thank you for putting the video and book together, both were a great help in making it the trip of a lifetime 😁
Great book Robbie. Thank you. It's give me so much information and inspiration. Going in June and currently booking camp sites. We are going in a Tentbox.
I did it years ago and was lucky I had a Road Atlas with me as I lost sat nav signal several times, it may have changed now but best always have one in case !
Heading up on Friday from Preston and picking a motorhome up from Edinburgh. Can’t wait and bought the book to help plan but also watch the videos! Thanks for your help with planning and ideas!🙌🏼
Hi Robbie, We’ve just started our NC500 and we are following your no fuss travel guide book which is absolutely brilliant so far 😀 weather hasn’t been brilliant today but what do you expect being in Scotland!!
hey Robbie, wow amazing video. Sow we are coming to scotland this summer, looking forward to the summer😃 we are also riding the NC500. You talk about midges in the video, witch areas are midges the most end what cane whe doe about? Greeting from the Netherland. Gr Dennis
Thanks for this informative video .. I’m contemplating doing NC500 in my camper, I’m a solo lady, can it be quite remote at times? I’ll buy your book, as I’ll find the itinerary and any info really helpful … I’ve hit subscribe. I’ve got my own little TH-cam channel called Teresa’s World … been going for 8 years, it remains a hobby and as a solo person, gives me a great focus, the TH-cam community are so supportive etc. Well done on the success of your channel in such a short time and few videos … you’re very sharp on the relevant info you give and video footage is pro 👍🏼 I need to up my game!! No, not really, I enjoy ticking along in my little world! 😁 I’ve done Ben Nevis .., so NC500 has to be next 😊many thanks 🙏🏼
Got the book. Planning well advanced for May. Hired a cottage to use as a base. Means extra miles to cover the whole NC but I like having a base to work from.
Just ordered the book. Before it arrives, could you tell me 4 places to look for accommodation for my 5 day visit? Was thinking lybster/wick area, thurso, tongue, ullapoll and then back at Inverness or somewhere south for final night. Great video 👍🏻
I'm planning on going to Scotland in the first week of September. I want to photograph the Milky Way above the castles. It seems to me that the NC500 would be perfect for doing this as well as photographing all the other beautiful landscapes, correct?
Hey Robbie great video! Im from Australia and still deciding whether to do the trip solo in a car staying at Air BNB or have the Campervan Experience from Edinburgh. Do you have any advice for travel around April, I know its a tough question, but for my first time do you think it would be easier to plan by car or campervan?
hi there! might be a stretch to ask this, but which places would you reccommend as a must see if we were doing a 3 day trip? (unfortunately that is all the time we have..) thank you!
If that’s 3 days on the route itself, it would involve some long stretches of driving (most of which has fabulous scenery anyway). I would probably try and tick off Castle Sinclair, John O’Groats, Sango Sands, Smoo Cave, Kylesku Bridge, Wailing Widow Falls, Ardvreck Castle, Ullapool, Corrieshalloch Gorge, Torridon, Applecross, Bealach Na Ba, Eilean Donna Castle! Although there’s an argument for skipping the whole of the east coast and heading straight to Durness and then including the Drumbeg loop 👍
Do you think it’s a good idea to do it in the end of October? It’s only possible for us in that time of year and we don’t mind the cold or rain. We would also do it in a Roadsurfer Vw california camper
I live in the highlands and was surprised when you said 5 days. 😂 I was thinkingnof doing this from just north of Inverness in 2 days. Probably 24 hours.
If you want to just drive without stopping 24 hours is fine 😂 But if you want to experience it and see all of the wonderful sites then you’ll need a wee bit longer 😀
Hi Robbie! My boyfriend and I are planning our route and find your videos really helpful but each time I request the itinerary on your website it hasn’t sent. I’ve tried different email addresses too! And check junk…please could you help?
I am planning to do a route around Scotland on February. I have seen this route but I just have 5 days to drive and then leave the van at Edimburgh. Is it too many miles?
My daughter Claire and grandson Cameron and son in-law Darren are there just now for a long drive and have all they need for the 5 days ahead god speed God bless. June 2024
My wife and I are thinking of doing this trip next March/April we are planning to do 10 days which will include 2 days commute to and from Inverness, would you agree this is an ideal time to travel the route

That’s why we recommend to download Google Maps for offline use 👍 You don’t need phone signal and can still navigate using the app 👍

Hi Ash, I did it November and May. Also doing April this year 👍
Got the book. Planning well advanced for May. Hired a cottage to use as a base. Means extra miles to cover the whole NC but I like having a base to work from.
That sounds like a great plan 👍

Yes, absolutely, personally I’d take the campervan route - there are plenty of options there with some incredible campsite locations!

Absolutely! I’ve done it in November and it was fantastic 🙏
Book arrived yesterday and already deep into it. Planning for October. Could you recommend a drone at all please?
Hi Neil, any of the newer DJI drones are excellent - if it’s a first time drone look at the air or mini (newest versions are 3 I believe).

At 1:00 was that the car u rented? Do u have name of the rental company, and remember the model name of the vehicle.
We plan to do the NC500 in October with a caravan do you have any advice please.
You may want to see if campsites will be open and plan your trip based on where you can stay 👍
Hi Robbie, where is the wooden coastal path please? We're doing the NC500 next year for the first time!
It might be the viewpoint at Sango Sands?
Wheres the best campsites to stop with a campervan along the routes please?
would love to do ths trip

I thought Scotland had a right to roam law and you can park a camper anywhere for free?
@@jaimz33 no this only applies to camping in a tent ⛺️
If going for a drive around Scotland constitutes the trip of a lifetime you need to have a long hard look at your life.
