Man, if I had a nickel for every time Tom Kenny played the role of a silly super villain with a tragic backstory that left them insane but still have an understanding and lonely heart deep down… I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice, right?
@@pinkiichi Actually several humans in the show are able to understand him (such as the taxi driver from the Who Wants To Get Rid Of Word Girl episode)
Watching some of these clips for the first time as an adult made my heart break. Wordgirl and Dr. Two-Brains have such a bittersweet big brother/little sister relationship that keeps getting pulled apart by this psychopath mouse brain that wants to do nothing but put lives in danger for the sake of getting cheese. They really have a lot in common when you put their histories of crime and power behind. If this show wasn’t strictly aimed at Elementary school kids and had a higher budget, I believe it could have gone further into the human/animal sides of Two-Brains. I’m still deeply invested in his character, even more than I was when I watched the show when I was 5.
Imagine if they replaced the psychopath brain with a benevolent mouse brain if the show continues. He’d still be obsessed with cheese but he’d no longer be a criminal. It’d be interesting to see the writers go on that direction.
Originally they were gonna do a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing with Two-Brains, but it was deemed a little too mature and they toned it down. We still get glimpses of it, but not a lot.
Wow you’re a good person! Reading your description totally doesn’t make you worse than dr.two brains who’s the who’s obsessed with cheese and is fictional!
It's nice to know Dr Boxleitner's still in there… I think so often we see the crime and some rudeness and we think that means Squeaky has all the power and control, but really I think Boxleitner is still be putting up a really hard fight against him When Squeaky has 100% full-control, he *will not* hesitate to actually kill people, he's abusive toward his henchmen, and he doesn't mess around. He doesn't "just want cheese", he's willing to go out of his way to torment the people who aren't helping him too. Boxleitner at 100% control just wants to help people and do science, and maybe eat some nice food on the way. He helps save the city, he shows genuine care towards his henchmen, and he's kinda like a goofy but smart uncle to Becky. Dr. Twobrains is so different from the old Dr. Boxleitner we saw ourselves that we don't realize how far he also is from Squeaky. Boxleitner's forcing Squeaky to compromise and do less harm than he could do if he were given free range. You could probably even argue that Boxleitner purposely sabotages Squeaky's plans so he can't do as much harm in some episodes So while Boxleitner can't always make Dr.2B be nice and wholesome all the time like in these moments, he still hasn't lost the battle completely. He's still in there, fighting for good against the evil being he now shares a body with
I love this!! It reveals so much depth to Dr. Two-Brains as a character - or more specifically, as the interaction of two characters! Villains who aren’t completely evil are pretty intriguing to me, as they’re usually more complex characters, often with a relatable goal but morally dubious means of achieving it. They’re split between their good-aligned goal, that we as an audience can relate to, but they might be so desperate to achieve it that they resort to doing evil things. But Dr. Two-Brains takes this theme and radically modifies it - in this case, Dr. Two-Brains isn’t pursuing a good-alignment goal by morally questionable actions, but rather is mentally and emotionally divided between good and evil because, thanks to the two brains, his body is occupied by both Boxleitner and Squeaky. He’s best explained as not one character, but two! I don’t remember the show talking much about this, but this subtle detail adds so much character to Dr. Two-Brains because it makes him markedly unique from all the other villains in WordGirl! Every WordGirl villain is unique in their own way, granted, but Dr. Two-Brains is the only villain on this show (that I know of) so deeply divided between good and evil - kind of like Varian from Tangled or Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars. There are many jovial, fun moments between WordGirl and the villains she fights (like after WordGirl fights Miss Power), but Two-Brains isn’t just a happy villain who’s friendly with Word Girl, but still a villain at heart - sometimes, he actually doesn’t want to do evil! Anakin approaches the same kind of dichotomy Dr. Two-Brains has, with his persona of Anakin at first, then becoming Darth Vader and distancing himself from anything related to Anakin. But Dr-Two-Brains takes this a step further by actually having two personas, and then those personas warring against each other! Some days Boxleitner gains ground and Dr. Two-Brains is nice and helpful; other days Squeaky wins and Dr. Two-Brains becomes menacing like a true villain. Dr. Two-Brains is also different from Varian and his good-goal-but-dubious-method theme because, when Squeaky wins out, Dr. Two-Brains is actually a proper, evil villain - he doesn’t hold anything back, and he’s not aiming for some relatable goal. Yet when Boxleitner wins, he has genuinely wholesome moments like in this compilation! Dr. Two-Brains is certainly a very complex character, as is WordGirl’s relationship with him (but that’s a whole other story)! Your theory supports much of what we know about him from WordGirl and expounds on why this is the case, adding depth to Dr. Two-Brains as a character, or more specifically, two characters! Thank you so much for sharing your theory! Great job! 😁👍

This is the most wholesome superhero villain, dynamic I have ever seen there. Just generally nice to each other. Also they need to be way more villains in media who love their henchmen and other people around them, without a sense of irony
Thats pretty nice honestly, i respect that the show made for little kids took the time to be charming, they didnt need to have these well written moments but they did. They coulda just been singing songs about words and letters, but they instead made a preschool kim possible meets Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Is it wrong for me to simp for dr. Two-Brains??? I don't simp for a lot of characters but he is so sweet! He is so friendly to his henchmen and they're ACTUALLY FRIENDS instead of Dr. Two-Brains just using them!!! I love guys like this!!!
Tom Kenny always seems to play insane characters with sad backstories. Doctor two brains has to be my favorite because there’s still some good left in him, it’s just plagued
Even though it probably aired a bit before, their relationship reminds of the Ice King backstory arch from Adventure Time with the way the two interact.
I can relate to 2:54, all want to do in my life is to befriend someone who'll understand my interests and conversations, it doesn't matter who it is, as long as the person ain't an asshole.
8:38 cant he use that device to save himself from his two brains? I mean like, does the new host need to have a brain to swap? Couldnt twobrains make a new body, swap his brain into it, leaving the mouse with a useless brainless body?
Here's the thing about the ray. It doesn't seem to consider the fused Squeaky as an entity. Either that or the ray only works on human brains. Also, keep in mind that Squeaky, if he were given full reign, would absolutely not hesitate to murder people in order to get his way. On top of that, it seems that Steven might know how to trick the mouse into being less vicious, or at least knows how to not be taken advantage of by Squeaky. If it were anyone else, as we see in the episode where this mind swap ray was introduced, it would cause them to feel the side effects of a fused mind. Perhaps Squeaky might take over completely if it were a weaker-willed person.
@@sierrafirerider Yeah so my suggestion was he makes a new body, one with no brain, and "swaps brains" with that. Then his old body would be brainless, and squaky would not be able to do anything, because I think the main body would need a brain in order to operate the limbs and such, but Steven would have a new body with no mouse brain attached.
That's what I was wondering; in the episode, it's only ever aimed at the center of his head, where the Boxleitner brain is. But what if he (or someone else, no way would Squeaky just allow himself to be separated from a genius scientist like that) aimed it at the mouse brain specifically and some other more docile target? It wouldn't be perfect, he'd still have a second brain, but it at least wouldn't be an objectively evil one
@@sierrafireriderI think Squeaky alters Steven's memories. But while Steven forgets things, he often reigns Squeaky in, remembering his grip on mortality, so Squeaky is never gained full control.
Man I love that Dr. Two Brains 1) Will not be used as an excuse 2) Is a caring adult [Even though he is a criminal yes but it’s a pbs kid show come on lol] 3) Encourage Becky to have confidence in herself to do a public speech and maybe think about committing a petty crime to help her out. 😂
Originally two brains was a scientist who becky was friends with and routinely helped with experiments and such, an accident with a lab rat caused him to fuse brains with said rat and create the villain, it's less "father and daughter" and more "good friends"
What’s wild is that two brains is the same voice actor as the ice king and the both have similar backstories, he even has a similar relationship to the protagonist like this video portrays!
2:50 this hurts me because the way his voice calms down and we can *hear* Steven shining through and speaking to his old friend. 5:01 and here too, Steven comes through to happily know that Wordgirl still has nice things to say after all this time.
Man this show was way a head of it's time voice actors got really into their roles perfectly you wouldn't think this was a PBS kids show until it showed.
I have not heard of this show and I am already in love with their Bromance. They have a system and rhythm and such chemistry and synergy. The kind of hero/villain trope that they will fight each other but if another enemy stepped to fight, they have each other’s back.
Dr. Two Brains always seemed to me like a parody of Dr. Curt Connors from Spider-Man, starting out as a friend to the hero but becoming his enemy after a freak lab accident involving an animal's DNA. And as with Spidey and Curt, there's a steady friend/rival relationship between WG and DTB that never once feels contradictory or out of character.
This is one of the many reasons why this show was so great. WordGirl and her villains (most of the time) feel like they're friends or co-workers. There's no real animosity between them at the end of the day. I need to find a way to rewatch the series.
Why does two brains sound so familiar. I cannot figure out where I heard his voice. I looked up the actor and I don’t recognize most of the characters google says he plays Edit: ICE KING. IT’S TOM KENNY AND HE’S ICE KING FROM ADVENTURE TIME
Dr two brains is my favorite villain and anti hero and he is similar to Dr heinz doofenshmirtz as they both had very rough chilshoods and are actually very tragic characters.

Vids like this make me wish that Wordgirl could have a remake because Dr. Two Brains is such an interesting character. I think a remake kinda like the tangled tv show where it's serious but still has some kid show qualities would be perfect for Wordgirl
Make it like the carmen sandiego netflix series!!!!
OMG the doc reminds me SO mucn of Giovanni from Epithet Erased!
I love word girls voice acting!! It’s so good
For real. Shes cute.
If I had a nickel for every role tom kenny plays a character thats starts off good and then slowly becomes insane due to a tragic backstory I'd have at least two nickels.
i was literally thinking spongebob for a second until i realised "that king there kinda looks like ice."
@@blackholeguy1529 lol
I feel like doofenshmirtz and Dr Two brains would make good friends :)
Dr. Doof: while i got the "Best Evil Dad" award, i heard that you got the "Best Evil Friend Uncle" award. How did you do it?
Dr.Two: i have my nemesis treat like a buddy who i dont mind to lean the couch when she sad, sometime like a niece to me. Like my demenia "cousin" who love to kidnap princess but at least i happy with my life that i not need kidnap anybody...
Nah. Dr twobrains would make doof competent. Truly a threat to be reckoned with
Yeah
They aren't just enemies, they're coworkers.
Too bad the words the day wasn't "ironic."
I love self aware jokes.
Is it wrong for me to simp for dr. Two-Brains??? I don't simp for a lot of characters but he is so sweet! He is so friendly to his henchmen and they're ACTUALLY FRIENDS instead of Dr. Two-Brains just using them!!! I love guys like this!!!
Yeah I remember watching this show a lot as a kid and your dynamic was something unique even back then too
Ahem, I’m here too, dw about it:)
i’m hearing you out
I do not judge you whatsoever.
I love how this is the first time word girl wants a crime to happen
I love the little hat for the evil rat brain.
Aren't they kind of like Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown?
ooh...cool idea.
Wordgirl and Dr. Two brains were once friends before Dr. Two brains became a villain, so it makes sense that they sometimes have friendly moments.
Tom Kenny always seems to play insane characters with sad backstories. Doctor two brains has to be my favorite because there’s still some good left in him, it’s just plagued
Tho spongebob seem to be the only one who he play That doesn't have sad backstory or is insane
@@MDGOLD SpongeBob has a backstory and I wouldn't classify him as sane
This is why I love two brains so much 😭
We didnt deserve this show, the writing, animation and acting were just so good lol
Even though it probably aired a bit before, their relationship reminds of the Ice King backstory arch from Adventure Time with the way the two interact.
Which is funny considering they share a voice actor
@@Leader7353 right lmao
I really wish he'd, like, fix the exposed brain thing.
These two are actually priceless how have I been sleeping on this for the past fifteen years???
This man is a chaos gremlin, I love him
Dude the writing in this show is legitimately so witty and mature it makes me giddy :D
The last clip is so precious I love it
"You are bad guy, but this doesn't mean you are bad guy."
I can relate to 2:54, all want to do in my life is to befriend someone who'll understand my interests and conversations, it doesn't matter who it is, as long as the person ain't an asshole.
You good man? Wanna talk?
This man's chaotic neutral vibes are off the charts.
Okay tiny ponytail is just 🥺🥺🥺💕💕💕
Man I love that Dr. Two Brains 1) Will not be used as an excuse 2) Is a caring adult [Even though he is a criminal yes but it’s a pbs kid show come on lol] 3) Encourage Becky to have confidence in herself to do a public speech and maybe think about committing a petty crime to help her out. 😂
The man voices “insane person who used to be very nice but is still nice even tho insane” in every cartoon I swear
I mean some of the writers are from family guy
I remember liking this show when I saw it on PBS as a teen.
This, this actually deserves a remake. This was a part of my childhood and now I remember how I loved it.
Is this some kind of Father and Daughter relationship?
W8 ur rayt dr.twobrains was more reliable than what her parents overall did in the majority of the series.
YES YES IT IS BUDDY
WE NEED MORE OF THOSE MOMENTS YEESSSS❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Originally two brains was a scientist who becky was friends with and routinely helped with experiments and such, an accident with a lab rat caused him to fuse brains with said rat and create the villain, it's less "father and daughter" and more "good friends"
Ironically i wrote this comment when i didn't knew anything about WordGirl and for some reason i saw their relationship as that
Wordgirl: “Maybe you could rob a store later?”
Doctor Two-Brains: “Hold on… you WANT me to rob a store?” 🤨
*rob
He gets me so giddy don't know why. I love him
What’s wild is that two brains is the same voice actor as the ice king and the both have similar backstories, he even has a similar relationship to the protagonist like this video portrays!
that tree is doing far too well considering the size of it's pot
I love how they talk like actual buddies slightly awkward in the right ways
We are reunited again to see a superhero girl who loves grammar and supervillain man who loves cheese having sitcom conversations.
I Hope Word Girl Will Be There To Save Dr. Twobrains When He’s Most Wanted By The Zombies.
bascially Finn and Ice king’s relationship development
1:10 i just noticed he has a little night cap for his little brain 😭
In 8:15, he could of just stolen her body, but he didn't.
Yeah Dr. Two Brains is actually quite a nice person deep inside I feel like.
@Weaklytune that's because before he got fused with Squeaky, an evil lab mouse he had, he was like the Alfred to Word Girl's Batman.
dr two brains is either constantly high or very sleep deprived and my instincts tell me it’s #1
I see a albino rat
I see a mutation, Two Brains's teeth are strong enough to bite through stone and metal.
4:43 that momint was so sad but so cute at the seme time 😭
That dude’s just a dude. A total dude who’s totally chill at the core of his being. He’s only evil on the surface.
Yeah Two Brains is someone you can argue is legally insane, more than you can say about the Joker.
holy hell I just unlocked an old memory
I vaguely remember this show as a child and I had to be told at 20 that it was actually this good??
The mouse brain says no and hes usually right. Hehehe
Wordgirl is an underrated masterpiece. Everything just hits right.
i never watched this show growing up and i feel like i totally missed out
FR
2:54 instinctively I asked if he was ok
You sound like a really nice person
WordGirl Announcer: WordGirl and Dr Two Brains are besties?
Their relationship is even sadder when you realize 2brains is also Ice King
Is it any coincidence that this guy also voiced Ice King and that both Two Brains and Ice King have genuine respect for their rivals?
And SpongeBob :3
so he was like... the ice king of this universe, right
i love how they have a co-worker/classmate relationship (teachers pet and class clown kinda thing)
“To bad the word of the day wasn’t ironic.”
-Dr. Two Brains
2:25
This is complete gold, abd an excellent addition to my collection of WordGirl clips that the algorithm decided I have now.
Dr two brains is that one friend that u just talk to in class lol
I love wordgirl and dr. Twobrains, mimic the friendship of marcline and ice King, like down to the t.
I literally love him like I would Squeeze him
This is one of the many reasons why this show was so great. WordGirl and her villains (most of the time) feel like they're friends or co-workers. There's no real animosity between them at the end of the day. I need to find a way to rewatch the series.
I love how he buys everything. He only steals the cheese.
Why does two brains sound so familiar. I cannot figure out where I heard his voice. I looked up the actor and I don’t recognize most of the characters google says he plays
Edit: ICE KING. IT’S TOM KENNY AND HE’S ICE KING FROM ADVENTURE TIME
YOOOOOOOO
S P O N G E B O B
Y A N C Y (Futurama)
Tom Kenny is the Mel Blanc of actors, he's just so good at his job
absolute besties
Dr two brains is my favorite villain and anti hero and he is similar to Dr heinz doofenshmirtz as they both had very rough chilshoods and are actually very tragic characters.
