When it comes down to it a large portion of the viewing audience really doesn't care about most of the personalities on ESPN. We record games, fast forward past the pregame talk, turn down the volume to avoid hearing the commentary and wouldn't mind if the network just went back to 18hrs of different sports followed by 6hrs of SportsCenter.
Rachel apologized because she got caught because Rachel made these comments a year ago. Many people knew about the tape last year. So if the apology was genuine, Rachel would have apologized to Maria last year.
@Jassen Michael it's a small minded and bigot statement, because it suggest that qualified black people only get jobs or promoted because of their race.If you can't understand that then your sleep 😴💤 dude.

I thought it was just me that thought that no one else should of chimed in to defend Rachel Nichols because it's up to her to stand on her word or to defend it. Her statements were basically diversity and inclusion is cool but only so long as it doesn't affect me, as a rich white entitled lady. ...which is fitting af considering she literally got her job bc she married the son of Diane Sawyer and her father is a higher up in ESPN.
The tear like a drop of sweat is the by-product of (emotional) effort in dealing with a heavy subject. The OP is more in control when he is able to process and integrate the natural negative emotions this subject raises. I dont think we can process negative emotions if we dont allow ourselves to feel them, or feel them in full, or speak about them, or speak about their effect. And studies show that numbing them negative emotions, also numbs the positive and dulls executive function to some extent. Supporting eachother when we are dealing with these matters is in everyone's interest. By all means OP if that expression if a tear means you can't function afterwards with the clarity you showed and cant comment as confidently as you did, do something about it.
I disagree…we all know tv networks are propping up black women specifically. Not alot of black males are getting those opportunities unless theyre athletes
Rachel Nichols got some nerve to be so indignant when she’s absolutely mediocre at times (ie when she brought Lebron James up for some weird reason during Tim Duncan’s hall of fame ceremony and Derrick Rose’s past indiscretions during one of his biggest games of his season)
Rachel is obsessed with being surrounded by black male athletes, and she feels intimidated by a black woman who is athletic, articulate and is married to a black man. She feels some type of way
@@vakyne6 i would hope if YOUR father has a position of power he would hook you up..... like wth are you even saying right now?? most jobs are given due to connections. thats just reality.

He was on Twitter Spaces as a guest to the ladies of Dishes & Dimes podcast. I was on it and heard this. The ladies did not hold back and blasted him for his comments. And his stance of only caring about one woman, his wife, was what he stood on. He repeated what he said in that clip over and over and even said he wasn't gonna lose his job over no woman, except his wife. But remember that Perk and some of these other guys got their on-air start on her show so that gonna be loyal. The hot-button in her audio was the diversity comment. Because by saying diversity, folks immediately knew what that meant because this was not a competition between her and a man, so what else is left with diversity, race. ESPN is the ultimate responsible party in this because this should have been handled internally last year. But it also let everyone know where Nichols and Mendolsohn stand.... It's often said that its better to say how your really feel then to smile in folks' faces and hide it.
ESPN is a mess. The way this story even leaked was insane. You got an employee who secretly recorded a private convo and blew it up, then got fired. Nichols and Taylor aren't the only ones who feel the way they do. Lots of people in every industry feel this way.
@Mr Man You're right, it was left on ESPN servers and then (NY Times) "At least one of these people watched the video on the server, recorded it on a cellphone and shared it with others." I'm guessing that person did not tell Nichols she recorded it and shared it with others.
Why is Chris telling black players that if they side with Rachel's stance they should shut up? They shouldn't have an opinion of their own because they don't go with the populace or picking up for their own black sister?
I don’t even see the big deal with what Nichols said. Let me clarify, Nichols was blaming ESPN not Taylor. She didn’t say Taylor wasn’t qualified. She merely said ESPN was trying to pander to blacks because of their bad history of lack of diversity. But Nichols seems to have a reputation for talking down about others so it’s no surprise people leaked it out.
She spoke facts and she didnt disparage Maria. She didn't say the only reason she got the job because she was black which Chris and Rob were insinuating . She said it played a factor because of ESPN's poor diversity record and the fact they were pandering during the BLM sponsored NBA finals of 2020.

ESPN only had the black men talking about Rachel I wonder why
Rob doesn’t care 😂. Y’all remember “is he a cornball brother or what?” 💀 😂 😂 😂
Yup! lol!
Well... Was He Wrong???
LOL he was a cornball brother
Which is y Rachel need to go
@@krishnawainright15 he wasn't. That's when keeping it real went wrong lol.

Perk can't say whatever he wants! Him and Rob are too different people. That's what's wrong with black folks, we all have to think and act the same.
I could hear the pain in Robs voice and it made me sad
Right. He was so disappointed and angry and I completely understand.
Yes I like both but Rachael is wrong in this situation
Yall wrong.
1st. It was in private talking to her friend
2nd. She didn't say nothing wrong. She earned her spot and they tried to take it for woke politics that's actually wrongm
black guy here and im on the Rachel train ! she shouldve got that gig and maria did get it cuz shes black.
She shouldn't have ever had two subordinates up there to defend her.
Agreed, they had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the situation, It was a bad look all the way around, I would've flat out refused to speak on it because it's not my place to insert my opinion on it.
It is how they get down. This type of behavior is a pattern that many people engage in.
Exactly! It’s much easier said than done to say exactly what you want to say: in the moment, on live TV, inches from the person you’re talking about, who’s higher ranking, in front of the whole ESPN set, & know you’re livelihood is on the line! Those guys were the only ones in those shoes, so it’s easy for everyone else to say what we would’ve done better.
they're all talking heads working for the same boss, and it also includes lebron as well
They like to make us help them coddle while they dont apologize

Bruh I never really agreed with them up until now.
when i agree with Rob 2000% , i feel some typa way hahahaha different feeling
I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Like Maria is incredibly talented but a bonus for ESPN is she is a female and Africa American. Both things can be true
But she's not the first or only African American female there. So there would be no incentive to push this.
Wouldn't she be the only one on the NBA count down?
@@WhoCares3001 It happened at the height of BLM and George Floyd so the timing speaks volumes. Fire them both I say. Maria trying to play a race victim to leverage a pay raise it’s shameful.
@@nickbrown8365 I believe that Kari Champion in spots has been on that show plus they already have black ladies Ros, Nneka, and I forgot the name of the lady thats on first take when sas and max are gone
Also one could say nepotism and who she knows within the industry along with talent got Rachael where she is not merit (or skill, mastery, etc) alone
But that has nothing to do with the issue. The issue is bumping her over other people who paid their dues already

Rachel was the ESPN # 1 female NBA person, Maria Taylor was a D & I choice
The real finals is happening in the ESPN building! Getting higher ratings then the NBA finals!🍿😂 That's why Adam Silver is pissed!
😂😂😂 That's sad!
False
comment of the week LOOOOOL
The issue with the ratings is that the finals is on Cable
When it comes down to it a large portion of the viewing audience really doesn't care about most of the personalities on ESPN. We record games, fast forward past the pregame talk, turn down the volume to avoid hearing the commentary and wouldn't mind if the network just went back to 18hrs of different sports followed by 6hrs of SportsCenter.
LArge portion? Lol I hate when idiots think they are all knowing
Yet…you are here in a sport yak show talking about disliking pregame banter.

@Jassen Michael it's a small minded and bigot statement, because it suggest that qualified black people only get jobs or promoted because of their race.If you can't understand that then your sleep 😴💤 dude.
This conversation was so on time and I really appreciate you guys perspective. I thought it was just me that thought that no one else should of chimed in to defend Rachel Nichols because it's up to her to stand on her word or to defend it. We look silly coming to her aid when we have ZERO involvement.
Her statements were basically diversity and inclusion is cool but only so long as it doesn't affect me, as a rich white entitled lady. ...which is fitting af considering she literally got her job bc she married the son of Diane Sawyer and her father is a higher up in ESPN.
Good point
Salute rob and Chris great conversation honestly teared up real talk i feel it
Man the F up!

Rachel Nichols got some nerve to be so indignant when she’s absolutely mediocre at times (ie when she brought Lebron James up for some weird reason during Tim Duncan’s hall of fame ceremony and Derrick Rose’s past indiscretions during one of his biggest games of his season)

They are speaking facts here. You know how this will impact Maria Taylor moving forward in her career. This is like calling all Black People diversity hire in high positions.
I'm glad they uploaded this and talk about it no other show aren't doing it
Richard Jefferson he’s something else to ! Let that marinate! Just Praying 🙏
This has become more of a ratings ploy than an apology.

They discuss racial issues all the time on their show
ESPN is a mess. The way this story even leaked was insane. You got an employee who secretly recorded a private convo and blew it up, then got fired. Nichols and Taylor aren't the only ones who feel the way they do. Lots of people in every industry feel this way.
@Mr Man My mistake, but there isn't much difference between being fired and being made to quit.
@Mr Man You're right, it was left on ESPN servers and then (NY Times) "At least one of these people watched the video on the server, recorded it on a cellphone and shared it with others." I'm guessing that person did not tell Nichols she recorded it and shared it with others.

Best segment in a while guys. Nothing but truth!
Yeah 100%. When they talk about LeBron it's hyperbole.
