    I love this channel. I recently found it and cant stop watching. I knew very little about rattlesnakes prior to viewing this channel. Now I feel like I have a pretty good handle on how these snakes are and have a new found respect for these snakes. Thanks for educating us.

    My first close up encounter with a Mojave rattlesnake I was very excited and also kind of disappointed. The disappointment was because all it did was get into a ball and look at my friend and myself. I was the first to approach it, so it gave me a little warning but not for long. I walked away from the encounter, after making sure it got off of the asphalt road and back into the desert where it belonged, and thought, that was not scary at all. Very well-behaved rattlesnake.

    Great job educating and treating these animals with respect. I had to move a WDB off my property and used your videos to build my courage. I took my time, calmly handled the animal and it showed now defensive behavior at all. Safely relocated it to a local wilderness area. Would have left it but it was hanging out under my porch and in the garden.

    Can you use just one kind of anti venom for the various kinds of rattlesnake species that are out there or does the anti venom have to come from each different rattlesnake species? I really enjoy watching your TH-cam videos because they are really informative & interesting to me. Keep up the great work guys!!

      Crofab antivenom is made from the venom of several pit viper species (rattlesnake, copperhead and cottonmouth) and is the antivenom of choice for pit viper envenomations in the US.
      I think there are other antivenom brands that may be Iess expensive like Anavip, but I'm not positive if it's wideIy avaiIabIe in the US or not yet. Hope that heIps.

    I read that the same type of antivenom worlds on all the rattlesnakes so if one is bitten one does not need to identify the type of rattlesnake.

    I've been doing work at some property just south of the vulture mine by wickenburg. Owner says he's found two snakes in 18months didn't specify they were rattlesnakes.
    Because the work I'm doing has me trudging through brush, in washes, picking up old piles of construction debris I'm hypervigilant about watching my step. In the 3 months I've been out there I've seen no snakes and just one set of sidewinder tracks in a wash.
    Not that I want to have a snake disrupting my work but am I just incredibly un/lucky? Or have I probably been blindly walking over them? I mean there are snakes out there, right?

    Story I was told was you had to identify the snake that bit you for the proper anti venom is that true?

    • @metalmamasue3680
      @metalmamasue3680 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's considered to be outdated advice, if you know it's a rattIesnake or other venomous snake, that's good enough.
      If you can safeIy and quickIy snap a picture of it, if you're not sure what it is, (without taking extra time), that's fine but the most important thing to do if you think you've been bitten by a venomous snake, is to stay caIm and get to the nearest hospital asap, without panicking.
      There's onIy one antivenom for pit viper bites, which includes rattIesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths so the exact species doesn't matter.
      The Dr's can teII by your symptoms, what systems the venom is affecting and how to treat you.

    I don’t understand the need to always remove the snake. I live in the woods in TN. There are copperheads, rattlesnakes, coral snakes as well as several non venomous species. I don’t bother them. They don’t bother me. In the 40 years I’ve lived here, I’ve relocated one snake. A copperhead that found its way in the house and took up residence in my husband’s sock drawer. I took him down the hill and let him go near the creek.

    • @RattlesnakeSolutions
      @RattlesnakeSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’d actually be surprised at how often we talk people out of having snakes (mostly non-venomous) removed, which obviously isn’t something that is seen on video.

    When talking about rattlesnake bites, you stated that if bitten you would be O.K. "although a little broker". How about addressing why anti-venom is so much more expensive in the U.S. than other countries. Several yrs. ago, I think when "Venom One (?)" was on Animal Planet, I remember someone stated that anti-venom in the states at that time was approx. $1,000 per vile but only around $100 per vile in other countries. Please explain.

      Nah, with antivenom wideIy available in the US, snakebite deaths are very rare. Approx 5-7 a year and that incIudes peopIe who keep and handIe venomous snakes as weII as the religious foIks who beIieve in taking up serpents in their church services. Often they wiII refuse medicaI treatment, relying on their faith to save them.
      When you think of how many peopIe hike, mountain bike, camp and so on, that's a pretty Iow number.
      If you get medicaI heIp in a timeIy fashion, your chances are very good that you will survive.
      These foIks are trained professionaIs, do not try to deaI with a venomous snake yourseIves.
