im having a hard time determining how to calculate the profit I want to get from each job. do you have any tips?

Well it’s a good idea to figure out your overhead for the year, look at a typical year and break it down into a % so you can add it to each project. I always look at each project two ways. I price it out so that I know I account for all for the hours necessary to complete the project plus materials and some room for error. Then it’s a choice as to what % of profit you think you need to grow the company. Balancing your goals (more equipment or advertising) with what you can charge to make sure you get the projects and aren’t gouging people. It’s tough but the more detail you get in your numbers the better you are able to adjust moving forward
