I don't think he means it as "Blizzard is good at balancing the game" just that, in fact, playing a broken character is bad for you because it is eventually *(in a couple centuries)* going to get nerfed and then that player will be "helpless" if he only relied on the character to win

Heyo GM1 dps player here, most of the 2nd half of the video is good but the start isn’t all true so I’ll list the parts that could be better:
0:20 this common idea that sr is a perfect reflection of your skill level is just a lie. This only holds true if you play an infinite amount of games which obviously you don’t. You’re in a lobby with 9 random players who you can’t control. You are only ever 10% of a lobby so don’t expect your 10% to dictate every outcome. The best saying I’ve heard is
1/3 of your games you’ll win no matter what
1/3 of your games you’ll lose no matter what
1/3 of your games you decide the outcome of
If you play loads and loads of games then yes you will reach your true rank but some people don’t have time to play thousands of games to reach this. Many people truly are in ranks that don’t match their skill. Hell even my main account this season is barely masters and I’m a gm1 player. Let’s stop using this false idea that sr is perfect.
0:34 unranked to gm players are never just gm5 players reaching gm5 again. They are exclusively VERY high rank players, usually 4700sr top 10 players reaching the very bottom of gm5. They are winning 95% of their games because even their hardest games are still 1000sr below their real rank. You can do the same thing with a diamond player doing unranked to gold and get the same result. This proves nothing but that smurfing works.
1:12 playing with friends is fine. You said you should ONLY ever solo queue then used 1 specific example of a low ranked friend to justify this. Playing with friends is fine for improvement but obviously only if they aren’t significantly lower rank than you and don’t have rage mindsets etc. You’re making sweeping statements because of 1 type of friend as if that’s ALL friends. Nuance exists.
1:48 actually very good advice. Practicing a small pool of heroes (2-3 usually) is how almost all pro players get as good as they do and it’s very effective. Prioritise deepening your hero pool, instead of widening it. Being ok at 10 heroes is worse than being great at 2.
Most of the rest of the video is all good advice though. Mental health is important, physical health is important, keeping yourself in a good mindset is important. All of these needs to be checked to reach your maximum potential.

    • @tjtj012
      @tjtj012 หลายเดือนก่อน

I will say technically if you are good enough you can control 6 players. 5 on the enemy team and yourself.

Very good video, but I have a few critiques:
    1) The most important advice I have ever learned about improvement in competitive settings is: You do not play ranked to win. You choose something very specific you want to work on that you need to improve. And your sole goal in any given match is to focus on improving that. You do not care if you win or lose, you do not care if you play well or poorly, you just care that you are trying to improve that one thing. It's not a mindset you will gain from one day to the next, but not caring about a win or loss, and having something tangible that you know you need to improve is the best advice I know. Another, less important layer to this is that you don't need to work on the same thing for weeks, or until you "master" it. You won't master anything, pros did not master any of the things you're improving on. Intensity is your best bet here. Doing it really well for 3 games is better than doing it for 2 weeks, because you get bored of it if you do it for that long, and then the whole practise is pointless. I change it up every few games, and just cycle through a handful of things at a time.
To give an example, because I do think this is the most important thing I've said, here's a list of points I need to improve on Sojourn. I choose one of these every game:
    - use disrupter to discourage an angle or to apply pressure that could lead to a kill, not just in choke
    - Play cover
    - Make a short fight plan before the fight
    - Relax, take a second to make sure you're really aiming your rail, not just spamming it
    - check if you are 5 before a fight
    - when shooting hold the angle, don't get sucked in (Plat magnet)
    - Time your aggression when a fight is happening/with your tank
I think you have the spirit of this, but it kind of got drowned out in this video. This truly is the most important thing you need to do to improve. Play every game with a goal in mind to work on, not to win. And you will improve, and you will eventually win, until you rank up.
    2) 2 hours a day is good, but you don't need to play 2 hours a day to improve. Nowhere near it if you just want to go from say Plat to Diamond. Longer playtime becomes more relevant as you aim for higher ranks, so for GM I think it's more reasonable, I don't know if I would call it "bare minimum", but it's on the lower side. I don't think you need 4 hours, especially not if your quality of practise declines over those 4 hours which I think it will for many people watching this video. In my opinion, make sure you're focused for the time that you are playing, then up that play time. What playtime is minimum and what is optimal depends entirely on the rank you are now, and the rank you want to achieve. For GM I would say 3 hours is a good mark, but again, make sure those are actually useful.
    3) 144 HZ is definitely not the "bare minimum". Granted, that's easy for me to say, I'm a hitscan player and I've been playing on 165 HZ for years. It's definitely good, but it's not bare minimum and without it you can still reach GM. I would say it's highly recommended if you're playing aim heavy heroes (most dps and some supports), it's still recommended if you're a tank or support player, but I don't think 60 hz is the reason you're not GM in that case.
    4) I agree with the hero pools largely. Play 1 to 2, at most 3 heroes at a time to improve at them. A good rule of thumb is play at most as many heroes as you have hours to play in a day. So if you play for one hour, play one hero, 2, play two (or still one), etc. However, I somewhat disagree that you need to play them for months and months to see any lasting improvement. I actually do exactly what you said a lot, new season, new main. I do it for 2 reasons: I've been scrimming for years by now, and scrimming most of the times requires you to play a few more than 2 heroes. Because of this, I have a decent base line on most hitscans, and while I have 2 heroes I play the most in scrims, I play quite a few because a lot of them are very specific picks (i. e. Sym on exacatly 3 maps, Widow on Widow maps, Cass against specific comps, etc.). So I have a hero pool of 7 heroes I'm pretty good on, and I just cycle who I'm practising in comp (2 heroes) every season or so. You don't need to play heroes for months and months to see improvment. Actually just a weeek ago, I needed to work on my Sombra more since I hadn't played her a lot since the rework (she's generally one of my weaker heroes). I played her exclusively for a week in comp, and already saw a lot of improvement after. I also have a hierachy. I like to play Widow and Tracer the most, and I need to play Sojourn and Ashe the most in scrims. So most of the time, I'm really just cycling through 4 heores. So yeah, super big paragraph to just say, it's fine to swap your mains every now and then. And especially if you don't enjoy a hero anymore, don't be afraid to swap because you think you will lose all that you learned, you won't.
This ties into a bigger critique I already had with playtime: Short bursts of very intense practise is better than long drawn-out, not very focused practise. That's why it's fine if you just want to practise a hero for a month and then moth back to your normal mains, or swap mains all together if you're not feeling it anymore. That's why it's important to get that practise right before you feel the need to up your playtime.
Good video, here's my way too long thoughts on it.

People say that games make you lazy but actually to get better you need a good mindset, discipline and hard work which actually works really well everywhere, you are a sprinter and want to get better? Practice more it will take time don't just get frustrated because you are slower than the others, you have to look at a lot of things to get better and all of these things are the same everywhere. So I am grateful that actually played overwatch because it is the reason why I started to see the reason why athletes, pro gamers or anyone successful in general is successful

I started off the game in bronze super low sr in ow1, i climbed up to mid masters and quit the game because i didnt enjoy it anymore, but you are correct in many things, not everything is required but a lot of it does help. People dont have patience, even if you always have a 50.1% win rate, you WILL climb because you will, the only consistent factor on games if YOU, that means if you improve ans get better, you can have more impact on your games consistently. People want a easy way to climb, there isnt, it took me over 2k hours in 3 accounts to reach my goal because i had a mental for getting better and being not caring about losing. Losing is part of the game, learn to love it too as much, or more than winning because it can tell you that you can improve to get better on your future games. I remember my experience when trying to hit diamond, i was always ao close (1 game away) to it but could not hit it, for 4 season in a row, the one time i felt like i was going to actually hit it, i stopped playing on my main account and played on two alt accounts, one where i tried since the start with heroes i enjoyed playing (placed 1 game below diamond), and the other account i purposely placed as low as i could reasonably without throwing (low gold), i climbed all 3 accounts easily to diamond that season because i was just a more more consistent and better player. That is just how ever game that has a working rank system goes. Be a consistent good player or better player than your rank, and you will climb. Have the mentality for improvement, why did i win? Why did i lose? Did i play that well? Could i have played it better? Is my aim doing well? What parts of aiming do i need to focus and improve? And so on.

You are correct! I accepted my rank at a point and from there I started to rank up and enjoyed the game more! 😊 I also learned not to take the game too seriously! Getting mad or really frustrated just makes you hate the game!
PS: Also a very good advice would be to watch GM players and listen to their team comp! If You have the fundamentals down, better Mechanics and all the map knowledge watching GM players can take You very far!!! It directly improves your game sense and movement! Oc getting the mechanics down is very hard but understanding why and how to move can make you a much better player!
This advice won't help Bronze or low Silver players though😅 they should learn the fundamentals first and learn all the maps first!

1:46 2:28 It's funny that being a onetrick brings in more improvement than just being a metal rank toxic "flex" player. I started ow2 at this season with onetricking lucio, I got to plat 4 in placements (now gold 2 about to drop again lmao) and now I feel like I can climb so much more if i just work on some obvious mistakes I am making. I played a lot of roblox obbies that translated the parkour movement from obbies to wall riding. I am now really good at wall riding after like a month of playing lucio in surf and in qp/ranked. I do need to work on gamesense and decision making though. It gets overwhelming to see what I should be constantly doing every few seconds on a team fight.
There's atleast the option to mute chat when chat gets toxic when you don't switch to a "counter" hero.

I'm hard stuck bronze because I play on switch and a dude in the four stack I play in is just really bad but acts like he's the best in the group, also the fact that my Sr is already messed up. I see myself having the highest damage on Winston until either my team decides I don't need backup or support or 2+ people swap to counter me. It's just Winston though any other dps/tanks I play I get the highest damage and the lower side of deaths.

I think i am able to climb, in a thousand years lol. I dont enjoy the game enough to play it each day for hours. I love competitve mystery heroes, i was top318. I love that game mode i have 200 hours on mystery heroes on general(i have 190~ in comp and 200 in qp. I remember going on a 15-1 win streak the day i got top500 lmao. I balled so hard man. Everyone was so skilled and i never ever appreciated others gameplay the same ever again after the mode vanished. Now i remain with my plat tank and dps, kinda mad at my teammates for being kinda forced to make the moves each time myself, take high grounds alone and have to retreat since they dont play with me, take angles alone and not get max value etc. And the worst is my support is gold... I CAN explain, the start of ow2 i picked support and loved zen but tanks were so opressive in season 1 and 2 (hog, zarya, sojourn) my mere existence was enough reason to be killed so i switched roles in season 3. By this time learned the game and was playing a lot of sigma (my beloved). They took his one shot (sad). I played tank and it got real painful over time since the role sucks even to this day. I fell in love with MH and the comp version was even better since a 3-0 stomp bc of rng could be redeemed with ok luck and enough skill. I never ever played supports so the rank nevee changed and actually decayed to silver some time lol. I dont play the role, it was my first ever experience with the game and it is boring to pick bap and annihilate golds (paired with the brain dmg it gives me seeing their gameplay (no offense)) I just dont play enough to rank up cuz the tank experience is ass, counterpicking is a sad thing across all roles. They took hanzo one shot so i cant play assasin hanzo anymore. Blizzard hates me lol.

I don’t fully agree with the “don’t play with your friends” part. I think most people should find at least one duo to queue with, even if it’s a friend of theirs. What if their friend takes it as seriously as them? I think solo queueing every game, while possible to hit GM and other high ranks, leads to some inconsistency since you have an entirely new set of people on your team every game. I’m not saying it’s worse to solo queue but I think a lot of people have trouble with solo queueing cause they have trouble dealing with the inconsistency of random players they don’t know. You could make the argument that once you’re in GM, you should be able to play with random players so that’s a fair argument but I don’t agree with arguing against queueing up with someone you know and/or trust.

Don't do everything you need to do all at once, improve little by little without overworking yourself, you'll be amazed where you'll end up by the end of it.

Trial and error. Ask questions like "Did I use this ability wrong or right. Was there a better way to do it or was it reasonable?", "Is my position here good? Why or why not?", "How could I play against x counter? Did I do that?", etc.
I would also recommend watching the coach Spilo. But getting comfortable not knowing the answer and trying to figure it out yourself is so useful. A lot of the times, you will be able to answer these kinds of questions better than you think.
