I love Randy Vining and his poems. When I moved into my car after I had watched Without Bound I had to give away all my stuff, including 1000 books. But there’s one book I kept, and that’s Randy’s 40 years a nomad. ❤️

Love it. We havent made such extreme changes, but 6 years ago my wife and I sold our expensive house, luxury suv, sports car, motorcycles, rental property, etc. We then left our high stress jobs and started our own business. We have now, for the past several years, worked only 3 days per week. We spend the remainder of our time pursuing other interests, spending time together, and simply enjoying life itself. We do have another house, but much older and smaller, and we have a small shop on our property for our business. We drive well used, but comfortably nice vehicles, have NO credit cards or consumer debt, no cable tv, and overall simple life. Fantastic way to live.
You are smart people. My parents did much the same.

I live in a senior place I'm 72 now and a couple years ago I started working on my van and everyone around me thought I was nuts then I would take off and go down to the ocean or go other places. now they're not laughing, when I get back from a trip they want to know all about it. but it is getting very dangerous for me because when I leave now I don't want to come back. I'm just having so much fun. I'll see you guys next month in Arizona. Happy trails.

My father died waiting for his first social security check. I don't want that to happen to me. I just went on my first solo van trip and am planning my next. Your videos are always full of inspiration and wonderful information. Randy is a amazing soul. Thank you once again.
My mom died at 72... 7 years after retirement. I plan to retire at 58. Part time explorer. Full time happy.

A friend of mine told me once that you will never own anything so long as you pay taxes so think about that the next time you say you own something.

Love the fact that you are content to live the way you do without justifying it, not feeling the need to explain or convince anybody. You believe in what you do and are truly your own person.
Contentment is in the little things that money can never buy. Talking to some people can truly enrich your life and give meaning to your own. Opening yourself to all those experiences is absolutely liberating and it gives you the freedom that you are having and been living the past 40 years without regrets and with your own convictions.
You need to start writing a book on all the memories and connections you made over the years.
I would have loved to buy your book, but it is not available in South Africa.

That's exactly what happens around a campfire at night. Instead of shoving our heads into a TV screen, we chat, laugh and maybe embellish a few stories as we contribute to the collective group. Or just sit and listen...and maybe learn a bit. I didn't even recall a commercial in this video.
Watch it 6 times and that equals to 3 hours or close 😉...
I am the primary caretaker of my 86 year old mother, and am privileged to have this time with her. But when she passes -- hopefully years from now -- I'll be prepared to become a nomad for the rest of my life. One sister is appalled I want to be a "bum" and the rest of the family is bemused, believing I won't do it. But I will! Thank you for your continuing information and inspiration... both of you!

Go for it. We are debt free own our own home. We have decided when we can't maintain the 1,800 sq ft house and yard, we're selling and buying a 200 sq ft tiny house and moving into our daughters backyard. She has a back corner that's perfect. We'll have our space and she and her husband will have theirs. Visit with grandkids, great grandkids etc. In the main house. Still cruise, go to Branson. Whatever. One people think we're nuts for wanting to go that small. However we'll only need a bed, bath and kitchenette. A glorified hotel room. Sounds great we're looking forward to it. Meanwhile we've already started scaling down. Love to all God bless. Namaste. Robert and Annette.

Great Video. A good friend of mine's Dad, Retired at 62 and Died at 62 1/2. Worked his whole life to DIE. Enjoyed 6 mo. Not the Way i want to do it.

My dad passed at 54 when I was 13 and when I needed him the most. I have managed to have outlived him by 10 years now. He worked all his life unable to get out from under the boot of the bank never able to attain his golden years.......”wont happen to me”.
I retired at 38 - best decision ever made! My mom made it to 70 And still going with me on top of a mountain

These guys are right. Being a Trucker since 81 I lived out of truck sleepers and showered in truck stops for years. Spent lots of nights in trucks during raging thunderstorms and other extreme weather. I was very comfortable especially when air conditioning became very common in big rigs.
I had microwaves and small refrigerators in later years and of course traveled all 48 states and Canada. I know how to live cheap because it was fun even though I had plenty of cash in my pocket.
If I hadn’t met my GF 8 years ago I’d be living a life like these guys. My GF is a wealthy woman so I guess I lucked out in life and I wont hafta work when I’m older. It’s so easy to survive financially when your expenses are low. I’m glad I never had children or the expenses that come with them. My Dad used to tell my brother and I to never get so far in debt that you can’t tell your boss to kiss your A - -. I’m glad I’m in that position and always have been. If I can survive living out of a semi then I know I could survive the Nomad life if I wanted to. I’ve driven past Quartzsite for many years and watched it grow. I love what I’ve seen. Freedom! 👍
My husband and I live in our Airstream full time and are hitting the road next year as Extreme Early Retirees. We'll be 35 & 32 and plan to have enough money to last us forever without HAVING to work. Will we make money?, probably some...but we'll be free just as Randy is free. Randy Vining is a HUGE inspiration to us. I LOVED the poem at the beginning. We're bucket repairers ourselves. Thank you for living lives true to yourselves. You inspire us!

Randy's message sure resonated with me. When I woke up at 52 Y/O after my beautiful brides passing, it sunk in, man you are alone, the kids do not want the farm and soon the estate will be settled, I realised it was time to plan the rest of my life. A few encouraged my move to the Philippines, the family surely did not. The amusing part was, after five years here, we flew my Daughter and Granddaughter over for a visit. Now, they are in love with my new life adventure and the wonderful places I am surrounded by.

Fran Alldred The Philippines is made of over 7000 islands, most accessible only by boat. So most likely not RVing, but maybe boating.

Two of the greatest nomads ever. Such positive healthy men.
More & More folks wanting to live a freer life. A life where they can choose to make money, little money or no money. A lifestyle that is not only for the low income or retired; a nomad can make $100k (Silicon Valley tech workers are now living in RVs, campers, box trucks, etc). Randy & Bob are excellent examples that people can live for decades as a nomad, w/freedom & happiness (no stress, no worries) ... as for what happens to nomads when their too elderly to live the nomad lifestyle, and senior "low income" rents are $700 & up? - move to Mexico !

As a survivor of a loved one’s suicide that’s hard to hear but I get it. Purposefully ending one’s life is one thing but for most dying from suicide it’s not the case. So many gems in this interview. 😊💕

You and Randy together.....what a pair and a wealth of knowledge! I had coffee with Randy just this morning while we are both boondocking near Cottonwood. I could easily set all day and talk to Randy and learn so much.
Van dwellers and people with alternative lifestyles understand that it's not about having a lot of money but rather having little needs. It sure takes discipline to restrain yourself when you live in a world filled to the brim with advertisements that create a false need to purchase material items with the promise that they will make your life, if not easier, better.
But when you adopt a minimalist mentality you realize that the more important things in life are in no way related to materialism. It's about health, friendships, freedom, taking care of oneself mentally, and having leisure time to spend on things that we love, where the means *is* the end. You're not working only for money, you're working because you love doing it.

I totally agree with you, to make your time count. As a MedSurg nurse I see too many people who suffer through their last years of old age. Quite often their family is keeping them alive well past their natural end of life, thereby adding to their suffering. In the next few years I'll be starting my life as a van or Camper dweller until I can't go anymore, then I 'm done!!! Hopefully I'll meet you on the road!

Why can we not share our space with others in our family?
The kids slept 2 to a room in the house and 7 of us traveled in a 22' Class-C camper, again sleeping 2 to a bed with one (me) sleeping on a make-shift bed set up across the front seats.
It was glorious and I am working on getting eRV up and running again.
It doesn't sound horrible to me, It makes perfect sense. what kind of life will you have if you can't or do anything and lose control over your life. It's your decision to make while you still will have the ability to make it. Everyone has the right to die with dignity.
Family and peer pressures..the greatest setback to getting started... good commercial for the book.. hope he gets enough to last another 40.. safe travels.

I’m in a government service job that I have labored in for 25’years now (policing). I hate it. I hate my mortgage, hate my electric bill, hate working to pay the man. I’m sticking out the final five year’s for the pension, but after that........sell the house, get my van, custom make it myself, and hit the road. I’ll probably buy a piece of property way out somewhere as a home base, so the grandkids can come visit crazy old papaw, but that’s it. Now, selling this idea of a life to the wife will be another adventure to write about later.
2 more years to go
Step one, just turned my PT cruiser into a home. After the summer my son will inherit the Cruiser, for similar purposes, and I will buy a van. That is my plan. I will keep you posted.

Your right! I’m 36 years old and a mother to a 6 year old son. We are on the verge of losing our home. I have always loved traveling and I’ve been trying to find a reason to leave springfield MO and pull my kid out of the corrupt school system. These videos give me inspiration and have made me cry. I’m so ready to do this. Just not sure how to get started with under 800$ two dogs and my son.

I hate to take vacation because of the total feel of freedom is great but knowing i have to go back to work makes it so tough i end up selling most of my vacation back to the company.
Tami Gami I have 4 weeks this year so I will be taking every Friday off this winter only because I work outside and it's cold but will be selling the rest most likely. I have taken it during the summer but as I said I hate having to go back. I'm looking for the day to live like these guys which I probably could now but I have been working since I was 15 and it's not easy to just quit.

I gotta say Bob I have enjoyed many of the informative videos... but this casual interview with Mr. Randy Vining has touched my heart ... I enjoyed the poems and the sense behind them...there is a lot to be said for being appreciative of the earth and being comfortable in your own skin... I’ve lived in a 20’ camper for 3 years no running water just electric on a piece of land my mother owned with my dog Boogie and practice much of what you have said in your videos ... and I’m content... my daughter thinks I’m nuts for living this way...she wants of course wants all the modern conveniences in life...but I grew up poor with a outhouse even so pooping in a bag no problem...what I tell folks is this “When our forefathers came across this country they did it without running water or electricity...if they can do then so can I”

I enjoyed this interview tremendously! Randy's humor, wit, wisdom and outlook on life amazes me. I feel like he and I could fast become best friends. I too, like others commented, wish I could have sat in on this conversation. Some people want to meet movie stars or famous singers, athletes etc. I would be far more impressed to meet you and Randy. Hopefully that will happen as I am nearing retirement and plan to be on the road soon! 🚐💨😁
I'm not easily impressed with people. But I am camping with Randy right now and he is a genuine authentic person every bit as entertaining in real life is he is on screen.
I'm a young male of 28 years old who lives out of las vegas, Nevada and I enjoy watching people living or traveling out of there cars. I transformed my 2016 Hyundai Accent Into a traveling situation. I agree with you as how this world needs to change for the USA. I see the bigger picture on how life should be. I'm cheap as far as living in a daily motel goes but I am not cheap when living In your car. I like listening to you guys. You provide a lot of great knowledge.
These two guys play well off one another, fun to watch. I've been following them on youtube for a while now. They give some sound advice.....not for everybody, but for those that have had enough of the rat race and ready to take the plunge. I haven't worked for 37yrs and have an income that allows me to do as I will. So my situation suites me fine right where I am, or I can travel in my Class B motor home. The biggest difference between me and the Nomads is I have a home base to come to. But I love there attitude towards life, we look at things pretty much the same way. Oh.....and I just ordered Randy's book. Thanks guys.

I wanted to say thank you so much for this video, and your others, in which you share your truth that helps me change my life. Bob, I have been following you for about 4 years and you are an inspiration. I am from Israel married with 3 children and 9 months ago we fulfilled a dream of living in East Asia as a choice not to listen to the fear and demands of society and to choose a life of freedom. We have no money or savings but there is faith and family closeness from which we live and find ways to produce the need and reduce the unnecessary. Thank you very much.

In the old days Native Americans walked out into the desert and died. When they felt their life purpose was over. Sounds like a good idea to me. I would not worry about it too much at the moment. Your life is only moment to moment anyway. The future usually takes care of itself.
This has got to be the best video I've seen! Randy seems to be a great guy. A few years ago I googled some ideas on camping in a van. To my amazement I stumbled onto a whole community of people. I've met a lot of great people online in the vandwelling and RV community. I hope to someday meet some of you great people in person. Thank you for all you do Bob. I read Thoreau as a kid. Loved it. Got into nature after that book. Read "The American Boys Handybook." All about living off the land and building cabins in the woods and such.
I had one of the original ones on base in Japan back in the 60's as a kid. Hardbound. I believe this it it currently: First published in 1882, this is a wealth of projects and games, with practical directions on how to make them, by one of the founders of the Boy Scouts of America.
