On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Fun fact: though there aren't a whole lot of A10 units left there are only 4 units authorized to have nose art and 2 are active, the rest are reserve units. The iconic "Shark Teeth" which draws its heritage from the "Flying Tigers" is the 74th and 75th Fighter Squadrons (I personally worked with these units and deployed with the 75th) of the 23rd Fighter Group, Moody AFB, GA. The "Teeth and Tusks" of the 442nd Fighter Group Whiteman AFB, MI. The "Blacksnakes" of the 163rd Fighter Squadron from the 122nd Fighter Wing (Indiana Air National Guard). And finally the warthog face of the "Flying Razorbacks" from 188th Fighter Wing (Arkansas Air National Guard). There is also the 76th Fighter Squadron which originally was apart of the 23rd Fighter Group but broke off to join a reserve unit but still sports the teeth.
You do realize that the Tuskegee airmen and the flying tigers (china avg) are two completely different groups right?
And finally the warthog face of the flying Razorbacks", last to be mentioned, but was saved because it was the match made in Hog Heaven.

Like seeing GS doing more Hog videos, should really upgrade to the A-10CII as the Scorpion HMS is definitely worth the upgrade alone, not to mention GBU-54 and APKWS rockets
ya I have it, learning 1 thing at a time tho, I have a tendency to jump ahead and overwhelm myself, trying to avoid it here.
@Growling Sidewinder feel like the change isn't that hard and for sensor situational awareness and being able to directly slew sensors to where you are looking actually makes it much easier

Dude, I love your channel since I found it, one of the reasons I got into DCS. You are brilliant when it comes to A2A. But watching you learn A2G in the Hog is just painfully fun. I remember making all of these same mistakes. Can't wait for the next one!

Man I started the hog with the same mindset. You're gonna get addicted. It's even better flying the C2 with wingmen. The shared SA is incredible with net codes set up. And tbh some of my most epic and intense flights have been in this girl. Even more so than the fast jets.

I'm a Ka-50 pilot, and I've got a lot of A-10 that way: a lot of fireworks thinking it's a "traditional" IR, meanwhile watching the show on "TV" (shkval). Sometimes burned some also with cannon. Anyway, if in hovering and really close to terrain, just land and evade the sidewinders 😉😜

I think you'll fall in love with the A-10 once you get the targeting-to-weapons hand-offs down by feel and memory. So much easier and faster on-target than the other planes, especially the Harrier. Always take the -184 pod on the other wing for jamming. The A-10 has what seems like TONS of chaff and flares, so don't be afraid to run it in auto, but I prefer manual semi-auto for better control. Forward and back on the CMS hat are single release, left and right are burst. Spam those out and evade and you'll probably make it. Depress hold toggles on/off the jammer. In semi-auto it pre-selects the jammer based on what is painting, but can get confused. Manual selecting on the UFC helps. Get used to that missile launch warning and learn to react immediately, as it picks up EVERYTHING launching. Yell at your mates for not calling their 'rifle'. If you need any extra advice on it, give me a call. I'll fly with ya. :D

The A10 is so much fun in DCS. It got even deadlier when they introduced the A10C-II with HMCS, intelligent CBUs 105 and 103 as well as laser guided APKWS rockets. This thing is a beast! 👍
When I deployed for OIR in Syria, we were loading the A10s with GBU-31v1s, GBU-54s, Mavericks and HEI/DU rounds

Not sure if this’ll get buried, but for selecting weapons you should use DMS left and right while having the HUD selected as SOI. This will let you use your saved profiles, as selecting from the stores page will only use default profiles e.g., no CCRP for bombs
the helmet mounted sight is really handy for surprise sams. just look at the sam, create a mark point and defend. then come back again for the mark point and send a maverick their way :)
Dude, Mavericks can toggle-zoom in just like the TGP does. It's only 2 levels of zoom, but zooming in with it will help you lock what you want. You also don't actually have to use point track with them, you can just point the TGP at something so long as it's ground stabilized and SPI. Then use hotas to slew all sensors to SPI like you have been doing, swap SPI to mavericks, and lock.
If you use TGP to set Markpoints with the INS system, you can set HUD as SPI, select bombs or mavericks, and switch between the Markpoints on the HUD like you would Navpoints. Great for CCRP with bombs or quickly firing off multiple Mavericks between several different targets, since you can pickle/rifle, swap Navpoints, and the TGP will be pointed right at the next target.

Programs D and E are your friend in the Hawg, as well as speed relatively speaking. Most of the time I take off and dont throttle down unless absolutely necessary. Also, the APKWS laser rockets are so much fun. I usually carry at least one pod of each for picking off targets. Good to see you embracing the ways of moving mud. :)
Hey, cool vid as allways. Just as an advice: make use of the HMCS Scorpion. When launched at, look at the direction from where the launch came from and press DMS right long and your TGP will automatically slew to where you were looking. And for the TGP at the last CBU drop: your right MFD with TGP selected shows a little white dot on the upper right corner of the MFD representing where your TGP is looking at (in front of your aircraft to the right). So no confusion by trying to figure out where the HUD Diamond is. And if you use the HMCS, it can also show you where your TGP is looking at. Helps a lot, especially in stressful situations.

I never thought I'd get a chance to offer up some advice for you but here is my chance!!! 😁 A trick worth remembering in the A10c is if you see something like the SAM launch and have the HMCS turned on, you can put it to SPI by coolie hat up twice and then you basically look towards it with the crosshair and TMS right short to drop a mark point in its general location. Like you I love the A10! Especially landing as you always look cool with aerodynamic braking and the aircraft pretty much does it itself. 😁

the A10C was the first module I've ever played in DCS, the learning curve was steep
Another tip for GAU-runs: Position the CCIP-pipper, the Target and the flight vector in one vertical line. Hold it there until the CCIP-pipper moves over the target. Then engage the first gun indend to stabilize. Wait for in range, and then give away. You will be much more precise.
you can use the HMD to make mark points. i also printed out pages 90 and 93 of the dcs a10c 2 manual and had them right beside me while i was learning to plane and having that info the hotas and what switch does what when really helps. i do think that the a10c2 has the best hotas system. there is so much that the a10c can do, once you remember what does what and when it does it you can do anything. all planes should have the basic structure and logic of the a10c hotas system.

The only time I ever saw CBUs as an Munitions tech, was a dummy unit in techschool. I wanna say it was the CBU105. Never saw a base that had any cause apparently *psh Geneva Covention lol but heard they were in storage for "testing" purposes

Late to this party, but finally we see some A-10 vs helicopter action! Also, it'd be nice to get a POV of the baddies getting absolutely slaughtered no matter the munition, watching the explosions and the puffs up close is awesome!
If you have the A10cll use the HMD and you can create SPI by making the HMD Soi. Makes refinding those random guys shooting at you in the forest much easier. For example just before you got axed instead of pointing the nose of the ac at you new target all you would have to do is turn your head and look at it, hit the button and voila... SPI!
I really love ground attack... as you've said: very rewarding. When you shoot someone down it's only one or 2 guys. When you drop bombs it's always more than 10!
Watched a video of Col. KIM Campbell flying the A10. Tough Lady. Watched also the Centrifuge/G-Force Training (CFET). Bet you don't miss that in DCS. 🛩👍🏽

I don't know but nowadays it seems to me like taking a 2k pounder is a waste of capacity with today precision bombing. I'd take 2 or 3 gbu-12 instead, set ccrp and custom lasing and take the targets out from a higher altitude.

Lol on the Vihkr death. It’s laser guided with the laser optically tracked so flares won’t do shit. The MWS of the A-10 should be able to warn you of a launch due to the smoke trail though.

Hey GS, an idea for a new combat format: instead of doing bandit unknown, do a loadout unknown. You and the bandit each have a total of 4 fox3s and 6 fox2s for 5 rounds. Neither of you knows, what the other guy brings to battle. Should be a lot of fun.
Would be pretty interesting to see an A-10A up against a Me 262A-1a/U5 in a guns only dog fight.
The A10 is slow and heavily armored but I never considered killing them with ATGMs before.

Can the Hawg carry a SDB (Small Diameter Bomb)? That would be the thing for a precision strike like that. Love the A-10s, we have them here in Idaho, at Gowen Field in Boise, and F-15Es at Mountain Home.
Not sure about SDBs, but the Warthog can carry something almost as good: the AGR-20 APKWS which is basically the classic Hydra-70 family rockets with laser guidance packages bolted onto them. They only pack 10 lbs of explosives in their warheads, but you can get them in 19 shot launchers, of which the Hog can carry a total of 4 (76 rockets max). The drawback is those rockets aren't "fire and forget" so you need to guide them in the whole way... but that's quite a bit of firepower to have on hand for situations where collateral damage is a significant factor.
The only aircraft that I know of that can carry SDBs are the Viper, Strike Eagle, Raptor, and F-35
Don't forget a10 seeing missile in the air. If you ear 5 beep crasy . Turn perpendicular to the M in rwr . Idle engine and flair. Is the best way to avoid hits. You got hit in ass showing those juicy engine to a fox 2. .
Also learn the hmds . It easy to mark with it. Dms don't short to select it . Tms up short when looking at it to mark. 1 long after to cake it. China back long to turn everything to it.

Growling Sidewinder, if I can make a suggestion my friend. Use the gun on BTR and BMP. They are light armore use the man’s on tanks. Also nothing beats the burrrttt!
