A+++ My partners horn didn’t work at all with or without lights on. Tried your recommendations and step by step procedure. Now fully working! Saved a few quid 👍
Thanks for the detailed tutorial, fixed my left stalk not turning on high beams. Moved the moving plastic part with contacts on the bottom of the PCB back into place and now it works perfectly fine, also scrubbed the through-hole pins so hopefully the horn thing doesn't manifest itself anytime soon. Airbag was indeed a pain in the back, for anyone struggling I would recommend pushing the screwdriver in at different angles (towards the center of the steering wheel) and pulling on the airbag until you feel it letting go a bit, then you know you can push as hard as possible to release it. The little while codewheel was difficult to remove as well but using a tiny flathead screwdriver works great for separating the brass pin from the case.
Worked 100%, thank you so much! To those wondering whether to do it, it's a lot easier and quicker than it seems. There's less than 10 screws in total.
You are a wonderful person!! The steps and explanation are very clear, I've done the same process in the video and now work wonderfully .. Thanks so much for this!!
My 57 Zafira had no horn/random radio volume issue. All I did was, disconnect negative battery terminal, push airbag out (didnt disconnect) and the small wires were all squashed. I carefully pushed them all to the sides whilst pushing the airbag back in. Reconnected battery...horn works every time and radio controls now work!! Really simple. The wires were squashed beneath the airbag...that's all.
I have exactly the same issue however mine is now completely not working. When i watched this video all i saw was the big orange wires that connected the airbag i did not see any other wires. Are the orange ones the ones that you say got squashed???? Cheers fella

Excellent guide. The clip 'fix' vauxhall fit FOC basically is a 10min job. The steering wheel need not be removed nor the airbag. The clip compressees the 2 piece steering control unit to allow the rusty / problem electrical contacts to better contact. Gets the car through the warranty period before it fails again. The contacts on my car were indeed oxidised. White film on aluminium. Other contacts are copper. Why vx used Al here? Cleaning didn't work for me but made the steering controls work again on left side only Methinks a new CIM needed or something else wrong. Already checked horn and earth. What is clear is that vxhall dealers have not bothered entering steering control box where code wheel is etc. Thumbs up for this video

Having a car in UK seems expensive. The whole repair in my shitland would cost as much as just a diagnostic check for you mate. But i would be concerned about the fact they can steal the airbag while repairing the car.
Hi! So i've followed this guide and got success results! I had problems with the horn and left radio controls module so i followed this guide to open the CIM module. I applied a special product for cleaning and lubricating electrical contacts (don't use WD40..), didn't have to scrape, just cleaned ALL contact points. I also did an additional thing: I soldered the board external connectors (There are three of them). The connectors are not soldered to make the outer plastic box separate from the CIM board, and they are fixed to the PCB using special "legged" pins with no solder that might loose it's effectiveness over time. All works fine now! Thanks again insaneinvader!
Worked perfectly, thank you! I didn't have the problem with the lights/volume switch, just that the horn stopped working. Fuses were okay and I had already replaced the wiring loom under the airbag. Also, no power was reaching horn, so concluded it had to be the cim. Fairly straightforward to do but had a little trouble re-attaching the black ring thing that sits under the centre of the cim casing. Took me forever to re-align it properly so that it would sit in place correctly, prior to putting the three attachment screws back in. Took a bit of working out but got there eventually. Bit like a jigsaw puzzle! My indicators were also starting to play up, not always catching on the first/second time. This is another known fault I believe with Astras. Not only annoying but can be dangerous. This was an easy fix by cleaning the contacts while the cim was in two pieces. Indicators now working perfectly. I am slightly puzzled that my cim did not have a small white code wheel fitted. However, everything seems okay without it!
Hey Rodger, I followed this video and fixed the horn. However I now have issues with the indicator, it is not the same problem as yours but your experience could probably help. My indicators won't self-cancelling after I complete a turn, either left or right. Since there is no mechanical cancelling switch, I believe something goes wrong in CIM, maybe the angle sensor? Do you have any clue? or maybe just tell me which contacts I should clean, thanks.
1. To remove airbag better use long hexagon driver as for bicycles. 2. Return steering wheel to center position before dismounting. 3. To remove levers I also use small hexagon driver of appropriate size.

Hi, great video, very precise! I've used it to repair horn and ignition key not working from time to time. But now I can not calibrate the the steering angle sensor with OPCOM. SAS offset stays on 128 and when I press calibrate it's doing something then it stops and can not calibrate. Steering angle changes when I turn the wheel. Do you know maybe how to fix that?
@@DIY-up6us I have a problem that I can't calibrate the SAS, after starting the calibration, basically nothing happens. OP-COM does not ask me for a carpass or do I still have to enter it before I start calibrating?
Yeah with mine also and the rear wiper also dont work nd after a test drive horn fails again. And i even soldere the connector with wires. I guess its more than just that tiny connector
Hi all, I have same problem with horn, and have followed this tutorial at the end, but problem was not on connectors described in this tutorial. Actually it is in connector where air bag is, @3,17 , copper one circle shape on the left. Just freeze the video at 3.18 min, and you will see it. After scratched it with screw, my horn worked emediatly, no matter if lights are on or off.
Great work, thanks. I have one question. On 6:50 min in video on CIM module has one white wheel, i don`t had on my module when I repaired. What is this code wheel and what is hims work, thank?!
Thanks, my horn did not work at all, not even with on/off light, did this and it works now. Opel astra h 2008 gtc After the fix i got the 450 and 600 error codes that was caused by incorrect code circle thing placement. BEFORE DOING ANYTHING MAKE SURE THAT CODE CIRCLE DID NOT ROTATE AND CIM MODULE ROTATES 2 TIMES TO LEFT AND 2 TIMES TO RIGHT. DO NOT REPEAT MY MISTAKE
@@mattsmith6158 I just got it fixed today, it was caused by bad code lock rotation it was a bit to side so it had to be placed as it was before. I tried contacting official Opel center and they thought that steering just needed some alignment and for that cim module code is required. Cim module code did not work, because code lock was moved a bit to the side. So i left official opel center and tried to find local opel electric, he said code lock was rotated a bit, so with computers help knew how to placed it into default position also he said he refreshed something in cim module software. So my advice, dont go to official opel center , look for local electric and explaim what was done.
Sorry i did not answer your question, from horn point of view, it never worked so all i did is cleaned the contacts. Please do not rotate code circle by accident or you will have same issues as i mentioned above. Also make sure cim module is clicked into spot where it is possible to turn at least 2times to left and 2 times to right
I got similar problem, my high beam works only when I'm using stick for blinking but I'm not able to turn it on, only blinking is possible. Do you think that CIM module is causing this problem? Thanks
Looking to fix the same problem (no horn and odb control when lights are on) and I found your tuto (very precise and complete!). Do you confirm that only cleaning the pin contact will solve the problem.....? Not necessary to change the complete CIM or a pair of cables? Thank you
So technically i dont need to remove the big codewheel either just to clean the connectors for the faulty horn right? Since they are exposed as soon as you take off the cover?
Question for anyone. When it comes to the airbag part. Is there any danger or the airbag deploying when removing it in this way? I'd rather not have an airbag /screwdriver combo in close proximity
I haven't disconnected the accu before repair but people here recommend to disconnect it. I've never hear unwanted clicking coming from steering wheel.
Hi all. I dont have issues with the horn while any light are on etc but seems that when I full lock the steering left it fails. I can most of the time get it working again by full locking to the right. My MOT is due in 3 weeks so need to fix it asap. Is this still a CIM issue or is it a wiring loom issue? Thanks
In my Zafira 08 horn failed just recently. Thing is that turning lights on or off doesnt influence horn, it seems that it starts and stops working just randomly (For example on auto lamp - do not work, on off - do not work, on lamps on - work). Contact local dealers, they told me that issue with the horn under recall was fixed in my car back in 2011. Im wondering to di this fix, but i do not know is worth the trouble and will it help?

Do you remember what you did for left indicator to start working again?
This is the same person on a new account. Think I just cleaned it and put it back together. Had to replace the CIM 18 months later anyway.
Wspaniale! Naprawione , dzięki wielkie !
SEI GRANDE. Video instructor utilissima spiegato abbastanza bene .trovo il tempo e lo provo
lux, mam nadzieję, że moje poduszki w końcu zasną.
Yay I did it, was a bit of a fluff but sorted,
Thanks for the great video..👍
Chapuza😂muy buena ,hasta la fecha no he tenido la necesidad espero nunca😅
man ur the best had my mot failed but followed ur tutorial and all fixed in 30 min!!!
Most important part is to disconnect the batterie... dont work on a airbag when the batterie is still connected!!!!!!!!
No matter
@@modrzey_ it DOES matter
@@marek4882 for what?
@@modrzey_ for broken nose
if the ign os off it does not need to disconnect the battery
Why the rotating part is not fixing in place when i allign it arrow to arrow?
It locks in place everywhere else but not in alligned position
Thank you very much, just fixed my horn with it. It had exactly the same problem!
One of the best videos ever made thank you keep up the good work
You a star! Happened on my 1.8 Astra and on my current VXR. Going to try this one weekend :)
Thanks for the guide. However Opel should have recalled this problem given the number of affected cars.
They tried fixing my 2008 astra h vvti 1.8 sri 3x and 1x at independent.
They all focus on the clip. Even in 2017 the vx dealer does not know how to fix this problem. No charge for work because they seriously do not know how to fix. If your car over 10yrs or 100k miles so all astra H now VX not interested in contributing.
At least my car not got the M32 gearbox that seizes found on vxr and 150bhp diesel astra h.
I think Vauxhall should have done this video as it's there fault in the first place.👍nice video mate
Brawo dla opla. Oszczędności nie zawsze sa dobre. Jeszcze raz brawo. Tak kiepskiej marki nie ma drugiej
Can’t thank you enough for this , works perfectly now , great video !!
Pozdrawiam.
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL...FIXED HORN IN HALF HOUR,MANY THANKS
Hi, great video, very precise! I've used it to repair horn and ignition key not working from time to time. But now I can not calibrate the the steering angle sensor with OPCOM. SAS offset stays on 128 and when I press calibrate it's doing something then it stops and can not calibrate. Steering angle changes when I turn the wheel. Do you know maybe how to fix that?
Did you ever solve this mines done the same ?
Yes, finally did make it, the problem was the code- I had to input the code first.
@@DIY-up6us I have a problem that I can't calibrate the SAS, after starting the calibration, basically nothing happens. OP-COM does not ask me for a carpass or do I still have to enter it before I start calibrating?
Awesome video worked for me. But after about 1 year the horn is nog working anymore (Astra H 2004) I think I will fix it by soldering as you suggest.
Thank You very much mate ! You helped me to fix the problem ! Thanks again and regards from Italy !
Thanks ...Worked well, the only thing now is my High Beams don't seem to work anymore...Bugger
Yeah with mine also and the rear wiper also dont work nd after a test drive horn fails again.
And i even soldere the connector with wires.
I guess its more than just that tiny connector
This now is very helpful I've learned a lot thank you very much
Hi I have the same problem. Do you know what the part nr is please. Vauxhall don't know this when I asked for a CIM clip. Many thanks
Same problem with my astra H only in my case there is a car symbol with error wrong transponder key.
You get sorted guese have same issue i do? Got 3 keys wont read any
Thank you for your instructions. This helped me a lot.
Thanks a lot! This works for me too for my Astra H GTC 2009
great video man!!!!....in my astra gtc have the same problem!!!!.....unbelievable that the problem is due to that!!!!!
Thanks for this video. I have a turn signal problem on my vectrA C ( and is not form the lamps), so Ihave to do it like you ( clean and solder).
Funcionó la solución #1. Claro y pragmático, gracias.
This takes me back. On mine, if the lights were on, the horn wouldn't work but it would turn the music up
Great work, thanks. I have one question. On 6:50 min in video on CIM module has one white wheel, i don`t had on my module when I repaired. What is this code wheel and what is hims work, thank?!
Thanks, my horn did not work at all, not even with on/off light, did this and it works now.
Opel astra h 2008 gtc
After the fix i got the 450 and 600 error codes that was caused by incorrect code circle thing placement.
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING MAKE SURE THAT CODE CIRCLE DID NOT ROTATE AND CIM MODULE ROTATES 2 TIMES TO LEFT AND 2 TIMES TO RIGHT. DO NOT REPEAT MY MISTAKE
Mine has the same issue on an 07 astra, did yours not work no matter what then?
Thanks
Thank you from Bosnia
thanks so much. did this carefully step by step and everything works good as new!
Looking to fix the same problem (no horn and odb control when lights are on) and I found your tuto (very precise and complete!). Do you confirm that only cleaning the pin contact will solve the problem.....? Not necessary to change the complete CIM or a pair of cables?
Thank you
In my case cleaning the contacts fixed the problem and now after a year it still works ok.
So technically i dont need to remove the big codewheel either just to clean the connectors for the faulty horn right? Since they are exposed as soon as you take off the cover?
Hey buddy , does this also work for the corsa C 2008?
Beyond perfecting tutorial
Great video, it was very helpfull, thank you very much! Regards from Croatia.
Jesi li uspio da rijesis problem letovanjem datog konektora?
Question for anyone.
When it comes to the airbag part. Is there any danger or the airbag deploying when removing it in this way?
I'd rather not have an airbag /screwdriver combo in close proximity
Remove negative from the battery every time you work on the car!
Did you remove + and - leads from accumulator before repair ?
On my Astra H , I here clicking when turning steering wheel to the left side ?
I haven't disconnected the accu before repair but people here recommend to disconnect it. I've never hear unwanted clicking coming from steering wheel.
Hi all. I dont have issues with the horn while any light are on etc but seems that when I full lock the steering left it fails. I can most of the time get it working again by full locking to the right. My MOT is due in 3 weeks so need to fix it asap. Is this still a CIM issue or is it a wiring loom issue? Thanks
Thanks very much. The car horn now works, very much a safety issue.
Thank you and best regards.
