One of the descriptions fits my observation of Diamine's Midnight blue. At first I thought I was imagining that it is distinctively blue while writing with it, but as soon as it dries, it like a dark purple-black. I really love it. So, I still need (eventually) one that is blue when dry. Thanks for the demo. All great colors in excellent inks.
Great picks! You got me interested in Kensington blue. I've been using Monaco Red to grade tests for about a year and a half now and I love it! Vibrant but not silly, perfect for a more formal context. Since I use it for grading, I've tested it on all kinds of cheap and semi-cheap paper (the one you use in school) and it performs very well thanks to a relatively fast drying time, with only minor feathering on some copy paper - which is to be expected from most FP inks.
I'm just considering my favourites from Diamine: "Tobacco Sunburst" a gorgeous warm shading brown, "Elf" - a quick drying dark green, "Beau Blue" intense and bright, "Silver Fox" a great shading graphite grey. "Syrah" - a wine-stain red/pink/purple.
So many great Diamine inks… it was hard to limit it to 5. Ancient Copper is up there… but the crudding I have had from it on a number of pens stops me using it with out reservation.
I only have 3 Diamine inks at the moment - Crimson, Oxblood, and Regency Blue. I do have in a shopping cart Imperial Purple but I cannot decide on this or Robert Oster Deep Purple.
I've had fun ordering from Cult Pens in the UK. In addition to extra-affordable prices, they offer exclusive ink collections. If you can make a large enough order, the shipping cost doesn't seem that bad.
I tell you what… when I get my ink out of storage later in the year I will make a Top 50 Diamine inks video. I’ll even try and put them in to some semblance of an order.
I took a chance on Monaco Red for silly reasons and I was impressed by how much it satisfies my red ink needs.

What about Ancient Copper.
I have three of your choices. What I like about Diamine inks is the large capacity and very affordable.

I own a bottle of Imperial Purple. It can stain some pens, which is somewhat common with purples. Regarding the shade, I prefer Diamine Raise a Glass.

I just basically picked the five I use most. I’m a creature of habit, and when I love something I just latch on.
