    The Mail app of Mac OS is super fast, but the management of attachments in emails is simply a disaster.

    Thanks Gary! There should be an option in Mail preferences - as well as Photos - to choose the size by default when you send or export an image.

    Hello Gary, your timing with these video is incredible. Just this week I was having issues taking an image from the photos app and dragging it to an email message in Mac mail. My solution was dragging the image from the photos app and onto the desktop. Is there a reason why that command was blocked or is there a feature/setting I should review to correct? Also, I took a screenshot of a document and attempted to send in the mail app and the recipient mentioned the document was blurry. Next time I know to set image size to actual size for screenshots 👏🏽

    I wish the images dropped in Mail App would show "handles" for scaling, just like any other mail app has.

    This excellent video reminds me of a "bug?" in mail export to PDF. Many times I need to copy an email with all its boiler plated info, to an Affinity Publisher frame. Sometimes mail export to PDF, when it extends across multiple PDF pages, somehow hacks off the bottom text of a page and then hacks the top line in the next page. Sometimes, the pagination works well, sometimes not. Sometimes doing the export operation a second time, makes it work. I don't understand the behavior enough for a reliable work flow.

  • @1947Hartge
    @1947Hartge ปีที่แล้ว

    One problem with sharing images is making sure you scan them at a high enough resolution depending upon the actual size of the image. Sometime your scanner default at a low resolution, so make sure it is set where you think it will suit the finally use of the image.

  • @webikehike
    @webikehike ปีที่แล้ว

    I might have missed it, but if you are sending multiple photo attachments, sometimes you need to downscale the images due to the email being so large or use the built-in Mail Drop service if you want to send the originals. Mail Drop really comes in useful for this.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does, but I prefer to never send a lot of data over email. Even if you have the bandwidth for it, the other person may not. You may find the recipient was on a mobile connection on their phone when they viewed it and you just helped them reach the end of their data allotment for the month, etc. Maybe consider an online photo gallery (iCloud or other) instead.

    Thanks, Gary! Question: What would be the advisable maximum size limit on an image sent through email (assuming you're not sure how the person on the other end will receive it)?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's subjective. I generally never send images or any attachments in email unless there is no other way to get the file/photo to the person (iCloud, other cloud, AirDrop, etc). But otherwise you have to judge it on a case-by-case.

  • @aaaaachew

    Can you do a video on how to easily share large video files on iCloud and to others who may not use apple products?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      For video files, try using TH-cam "unlisted" videos instead. If you need to send the actual file, then use iCloud file sharing. If you need to do it a lot, then maybe something like frame.io.

    Does it works the same for messages? My other question is how do I block sharing the location of the photo.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, Messages shrinks the image down to a manageable "mobile" size. I think it differs depending on whether you send via iMessage or SMS too. If you want someone to have a good quality version of an image, never message it to them. Use AirDrop if they are with you, and photo sharing otherwise. As for sharing without a location, I would export from Photos to files first, choosing to not include the location metadata. Then share those exports.

    Question: When Exporting from Photos, in addition to Size, there is JPEG Quality. Is it best to set JPEG Quality at Maximum (as opposed to High) to get the best quality photo? YThanks.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are diminishing returns. Maximum will add file size, but visually will look the same to most people as high. Try it yourself. Export a photo at different qualities and test.

    This inserts/embeds the image into the mail, which doesn't always work well on the receiving end (outlook users and support desks with other systems). what is the best way to send it as an actual attachment. Using the 'windows friendly attachments' setting doesn't do the trick (if anything a all?).

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just add them to the end of a message.

      @@macmost Many thanks for your reply. It’s actually not a small image - 3024 x 4032. I do see the options for small, medium, large and actual size, and they are not greyed out, but when I hover over each, no pixel size is shown.

    When I send a picture via email how do I remove the printing that says "screenshot" on my pic??

    • @macmost

      Not sure what you mean. There isn't any "printing that says screenshot" on an image of a screenshot unless you put it there.

    • @vg007v7
      @vg007v7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @macmost when I want to send a picture via email I go to my gallery select the picture then paste and send picture. It shows the print screenshot before opening the picture, yes when you open the file it doesn't show anything. Maybe I'm not explaining myself right

  • @kingfisch
    @kingfisch ปีที่แล้ว

    I like to send full size photos, but sometimes if I send multiple photos, the email is too large and won't send. I simply send multiple emails rather than reduce the size of my photos. If I can't send multiple emails, then I have to reduce the photo size in order for the email to be small enough to send.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you have a lot of files to send, consider sharing them using a cloud service instead.

    • @kingfisch
      @kingfisch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost I usually will try to do that but I have found iCloud links to be quite finicky. Often the recipient will have to wait quite a while to open the link after receiving the email. If you send multiple emails then the photos are received immediately. Just my experience.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingfisch I've never heard of that happening before. Do you mean the iCloud site loads slowly for them, or that the download isn't available for an amount of time after you share the file?
