You Can Use This Trick Successfully When Playing Bird's Opening

  • Bird's Opening (or the Dutch Attack) is a chess opening characterised by the move:
    1. f4
Bird's is a standard flank opening. White's strategic ideas involve control of the e5-square, offering good attacking chances at the expense of slightly weakening their own kingside. Black may challenge White's plan to control e5 immediately by playing From's Gambit (1...e5); however, the From Gambit is notoriously double-edged and should only be played after significant study.
In this brilliant chess miniature we see a Queen sacrifice with which Slovakian GM Ján Plachetka emphasizes the weaknesses of the dark squares! In the end of the video as usual you can solve the daily puzzle!

Zinn must have been very surprised to see 12. Qh5. It's a pretty combination, one that is easy to miss if you're not familiar with the attacking themes in this opening.

    Solution to the puzzle:
(Watched the video few minutes ago only, yesterday was having Internet connection problem)
    1. Rxe8
    Powerful move!
Idea is to open up 7th rank and enter with a direct mating net!!
    If: Rxe8
    Then: 2. Rc7+ Kf8 3. Qxb7
    What should Black play now??
    Because of 4) Rf7+ Kg8 5) Rg7+ Kh8 6) Rh7+ Kg8 7) Qg7#, Black is forced to play Ra7 and therefore give up the rook to prolong the game
So, Ra7 4. Rf7+ Kg8 5. Qxa7 Qxa7 6. Rxa7 and White ends being knight up with which White can seal the game easily!
    If: Qxb1
Then don't hurry up to play Rxb1 as it would be losing after Rxe8 because White would be exchange down and Black can finish up White
So what should White play here??
A simple move, which is known as zwischenzug (German word for intermediate check)
    2) Rxe7+
    If: Kg8/Kh8
    Then: 3) Rc8#
    If: Kg6
    Then: 3) Rcc7 Qh1+ (to prolong death) 4) Kxh1 Ra1+ 5) Kg2 Rg1+ 6) Kxg1 h5 7) Ne5+, if Kh6 then 8) Rh7# and if fxe5 then 8) Rxe6#
    So, Black plays Kf8
    3) Rxb1 Kxe7 4) Rxb7+ Kf8 and White ends up being knight up with which it can simply convert the game to victory!!

2:49 The rook and pawn on f8 and f7 respectively, that is the Murphy Wall restraining the black king. 3:25 See it again?
3:59 1N-g4!! How do you find that move? The king is limited to three squares, two of which would be covered by b2 bishop but for white's own knight and the opposite's knight. That line open puts the king on the block. SOP number one for king on the block is look to your knights. There are three knight moves that put the king on the cusp, two of which have power-points that are not free. So white's knight move, putting the king on the cusp from a free power-point, is a clearance pin attack and smite. Black's best response is to create a flight square ( 2.---R-d8 ) and give up the knight.

Hi Suren. Quick question. Do you think it's better to develop the second knight to c3 then ne2, or do you think it's better to play d3 then nd2? Personally I prefer nd2 because then I can swing it over to nf3.
Obviously they're both valid but I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to give me your opinion. Love the channel btw! Great stuff :)

Puzzle: 1. Rxe8, Rxe8 (if 1. ... Qxb1, then 2. Rxe7, Kf8 3. Rxb1 is a piece up) 2. Qxb7+ and wherever the black king moves 3. Rc7 and black can stop the checkmate only with Ra7, so white wins a rook back and will be a piece up.

    • @SurenAghabekyan
      @SurenAghabekyan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Lajos you are right, but interestingly Qb7 and Rc7 on move 2 are equally strong)))

    • @lajos-berenyi
      @lajos-berenyi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Chess with Suren yes, objectively they are equally strong. Rc7+ reduses the moves of the black king, since after Kg6 Ne5/d4 would be checkmate.
But with black’s best defence both moves win a piece, so they are equally strong.

5:24 1.R×N and double the heavies on the 7th. Notice how the g4P chokes off flight squares. Still this just gives white a knight up advantage after the exchanges on a7. Better would be to leave the pawn on b2 as an obstruction. 1.R×N K-f8, 2.Q-b4+ K-g8, 3.Q-b5 then 4.Q-d7.

  • @RulezAPower

The puzzle is rook takes E8. Now if rook takes, then queen takes b7 with check, and after that the rook from C1 will also join the party and black is hopeless.
On the other hand, if queen takes after rook takes knight, then simply rook takes rook with check, and after that white will be a piece up
