Just curious could this be done for a basement window as well? I’m looking to fill a window that is under a deck (why they installed it I have no clue lol). What about waterproofing steps?
Very good. Thanks for the info. I’m going to close off a window opening above my bed. I live in social security and can’t afford to pay someone to do it. Watching your video gave me the confidence to give it a go. I’m an excellent drywall finisher and have done plenty of repairs so I’m sure I can do the stucco part now. Watching you use landscaping edging was awesome - I would have been lost there. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! If the opening is larger my AC opening you should gill in some of the block holes with concrete and insert rebar in them. Check online the code in your area.
Thank you. I've been looking for a guide like this all over youtube. Mind you I'm not using the entire block. My vent pipe needed repairing and a whole block won't fit. But the basics of what you're doing is awesome and helpful
Yes it was a heck of a beast! It was still working Believe it or Not but on very humid days the condensation was draining in the inside and no way to get that AC out to unclog the drain hose. This was a good lesson for us, my sons dint think we could fill both openings on the same day and I hadn't laid a block in 20 years LOL Thanks for watching, have a great day.
Thanks for the video. I need a patch a wall up right now and needed a refresher course. However, i do have one question: you didn't fill the gaps within the blocks with concrete mix and rebar, is it because it's a small area and it doesn't matter??
Great video and info! I need to fill in some smaller, vent register openings in an outside, concrete wall and this gave me some good ideas to know how to tackle it. Thanks!
since it was a small opening, would it made sense to just put a small stud wall of treated lumber and screw on some cement board to give that stucco a place to bond to?I mean this def would be a better repair but thinking overall effort involved for a small non structural hole. also with a stud wall some insulation can be thrown in though it prob doesnt matter at all since its not insulated anywhere else.
Sure why not! That's why we live in America. 👍 I just like cement and or concrete wherever possible. much more durable stronger and waterproof... but there are other choices.
Thanks for sharing and for visiting my channel.. Returning Support with Full View and like.. Great job.. Me and my dad used to do a little stucco work using cement..
Can a basement Non-Vented Glass Block Window be filled with dirt/sand, or it needs to be removed and replaced with concrete blocks ? Please help and suggest how I can make it work… I no longer need this basement window…
@@JohnCRV Good question. I have the same one. I’d like to fill in two windows 35.5” x 61” each and add soundproofing, should that size of windows have mortar filled inside the blocks?
I think I commented on wrong person. I plan on enclosing two windows w/ blocks. Both are 35.5x60” . My goal is soundproofing against outside traffic. With those size windows, should mortar be filled inside the blocks? Thank you for any insight
@@scott1bm Depends on your County local code. For strength, I would fill every other hole. For extra soundproofing, I would use spray foam or concrete.
Sorry I'm not a contractor. These days all bets are off. No one wants to do these kind of jobs on the side like they use to. Try to get at least 3 estimates.
This video will show How we Fill a Window or AC unit Openings with Concrete Blocks on a Mason or brick Wall.
thanks for the video. how can this done with the addition of rebar?
@@BL-ut2zz Sure. you can add rebar to the top before the last row.

@@MRGfork sure. same thing. To waterproof use a good quality stucco.
This made me feel unafraid to work with blocks and mortar. Thanks

An excellent video showing how you removed the old AC units and filled the openings. I enjoyed to the end. Thank you my friend.

Awesome work John and son's removing the AC units and blocking in the openings. The kitchen AC was a beast for sure! 👍

So you don’t fill in the blocks with mortar?

Thanks good video and good information, but the first 5 minutes is useless. Don't care how the opening got there, just care about closing it in.
Thanks for the tip..
