- [Filmed October 30, 2020] PLEASE NOTE: Bristol, Castleton, and Ambleside were in either Tier 1 or Tier 2 on the date this video was filmed. All of the UK’s hands-face-space guidelines were followed, and Derek and I strictly adhered to all local rules and regulations.
In this video, I got to quickly check off TWO bucketlist destinations for myself: THE BEAUTIFUL PEAK AND LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARKS OF ENGLAND!
National Parks in the UK are quite different from those in the US, where they do not have official entrances, often times people live within their borders, and it feels more like a beautiful region to see. So, that was quite a learning on this journey!
Unfortunately, we did not get to spend NEARLY enough time in The Peak District to see EVERYTHING…which means we’ll just have to go back someday!

When you drove into town I spotted that Thai restaurant. We love Thai food! That’s where we would have eaten too 😉😋
Haha it's actually funny because there are two Thai restaurants in that town and we went to the other one! I noticed that too when I was editing and thought it was ironic 😂😂😂
Even thought it looked very wet, the Peak District still looked lovely. I can relate with driving around a scenic area and it's foggy, I drove a scenic coastal road in Northern Ireland and the fog was so thick (in late June!!) that all we could see was the line markers on the road. I'm sure it was very scenic I just never saw any of it!
Oh my gosh, always such a bummer when that happens! Derek and I had that same luck when we hiked to the top of Mount Snowdon and just as we were summitting a cloud rolled in and we couldn't see anything! LOL! I suppose it just gives us excuses to go back 😂😂
Well, given the weather I would’ve probably opted for hot chocolate instead of ice cream! Lol
Ian is lactose intolerant also, but tries to eat an ice cream cone every afternoon when we’re traveling around in the summer! And back here in Texas during the winter, he has hot chocolate every night 😂
But I love that my video of Burford showed me eating a honeycomb ice cream and that’s what Derek had in this video! 👍👍
Haha, right?!? Hot chocolate would have been more appropriate I'm sure. Glad to hear that Ian knows my struggles - but I'll admit that my lactose intolerance for some reason is worse in the US than it typically is in Europe, so I hope he perhaps is the same.

You drove up and down the infamous Winnats Pass in Castleton 😉 we're from Manchester and try to visit there a couple of times a year. So much gorgeous scenery around the Peaks. You will have to come back xx

I worked on the visitor Centre at Peverel Castle, some years ago, I live not far from the Peak District. I've walked and mountain biked all over it ,and also been under it .beautiful from any angle.

Honeycomb is not honey, it is a mixture of boiling sugar that goes to dark brown, you then whisk in bicarbonate of soda and a little golden syrup and pour it into a large metal tray and left to harden. You then bash it not bits and eat.
Oh no way!!! You definitely taught us something here! Sounds a little like when eat caramel with the boiled sugar. Even if it's not real honey, it was still extremely good!
