This Is Great But It’s Not Perfect | Douk Audio T8 Tone Control Review

  • Who doesn’t want to add a little colour to their speakers once in a while, especially when you’re trying to give a little more depth in the bass or richness in the highs with an old record or older recordings that don’t quite cut it. This tone control can help you achieve a more fun sound from your set up with the added bonus of also being a pre-amp, a headphones and earphone amp and it also has tubes for that glorious tube warmth. It’s super value for money, but it’s not quite perfect, just yet.

    I suppose it's been ages that I actually came up across an analogue kind of Preamplifier, because I remember somewhere during my 8th-9th Grade ( 1977-1980s) we used to *fiddle with all kinds of amplifiers and pre amplifiers and use to hone them* to whatever perfection was there *in our perception of music* back then.
    I recall working a lot on a vinyl, which was released back then, by the name of *From Here To Eternity by Georgio Moroder.*
    Some 10 years ago I shared this on my Facebook notes and on my blog.
    Your Video brought back those amazing memories of the past.
    Thanks.

      I just gave From Here to Eternity a listen. Unbelievable that this came out way back in 1977. I've never heard it before. Thanks for the share!
      I used to fiddle with a 10-15band per channel equaliser my dad had when I was a child. I quite miss having equipment like this we can tweak and play around with. It helps understand audio so much better and can be great fun!

    i found a use for the 16khz adjustment, and if you use this to add tone to videogame audio, there is noticeable increase in brightness of various random high detail sounds that are otherwise not produced by musical instruments. i found it brought some clarity to in-game footsteps.

      That's interesting. It's not something I tried. But it's great if it works.

    14,6kHz is in my age the top range what I can hear. I double checked this before writing this comment. I`m agree with you!

      Greetings Matthias! 😊 Many people don't realise how much they've lost in terms of hearing over time, I suppose there's a fear of knowing this, but there is also a benefit to knowing what you've lost, so compensating frequencies when listening to music can benefit your listening experience with an EQ to a certain extent. I usually check my hearing every two years just to know that my ear health is good. After all, I need em to enjoy music at far from deafening volumes for as long as possible.

    What is power consumption? Can't find it anywhere...

    I have been using T8 for three months. (My T8 is the 7-band EQ version)
    And I just discovered an incredible flaw in it today!(My source is PC, using XLR output for active speakers)If you set the left channel volume of your PC's volume balance to 0.
    Then play a song and you will hear a very small sound coming from the left channel...but it shouldn't be!Is this a special case? or is it an internal design problem of T8?

    • @tedliu1025
      @tedliu1025 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Does you guys' device also have the same problem? I writed emails to
      Douk Audio and they say "T8 uses a pure analog design architecture, but analog potentiometers and circuit construction cannot completely eliminate the phenomenon of left and right crosstalk, and a slight weak signal is a normal phenomenon. Thanks for your kind understanding. "
      I can understand that at this price point, the functions of T8 are fully worthy of its price, but only if you can accept this small flaw.

    After see your video I just bought CCA CXS iem and I also have oppo enco buds ,comparing the sound its not a big upgrade ,i also using cx pro dac ,now please tell me what should I do to take a best experience with my iem my budget is 5k

    • @PaulsPOV
      @PaulsPOV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spec wise, your DAC should be able to play Hi-Res audio so perhaps getting a new DAC isn't the way to go. I've found that over all imaging, detail wise, the CXS is superior to any TWS earphones I've tested lately.
      It's possible you're not feeding it a good source. Try playing back good recordings or higher resolution audio. I use Apple Music and have been enjoying it. It works well for Hi-Res consumption.

    You're thoughts on the tubes.
    Would it benefit changing them out?

    • @PaulsPOV
      @PaulsPOV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't get a chance to swap them out with others since I don't have extra tubes for this unit. But from my experience, every stock tube usually doesn't sound as good as some branded ones. I usually use electro harmonix or mullard tubes, and they always sound warmer and fuller than the stock ones. The pre tubes that came with my Schiit Lyr 2 were GE tubes, which, in comparison to the new electro harmonix, sounded quite lethargic. Usually, brands skimp on the tubes, so I'd say it's best to pick up good ones.

      I haven't reviewed many. The last one I reviewed was a Yamaha EP-E70A and it was quite terrific but it's a more premium product, so it is more on the expensive side. They do have an affordable one in the market. I'll see if I can get a demo piece from them. I think it's the EP-E30A
