"Do you know squarepusher" made me laugh.
i laughed, i cried, i fistbumped the air.. and then he added the 909 and i went absolutely mental
You have solidified yourself as the producer’s pal on TH-cam and I love your Ableton tutorials even though I rarely get around to using Ableton. Just entertaining to see the madness you are going to get up to.
midi envelope as a bang is mind blowing. You are from another planet.
i absolutely love these videos and when i saw "squarepusher" i got so excited. thank you for doing these, it's probably my favorite ableton tutorial series ever
15 mins easily satiated my break-bending but basic self, and there’s over 50 mins to noodle on. Yassss.
Best quote of the tut: "I'm not going to be able to sleep until I do this" Imagine this being the thing that winds you down lol
I’d strongly advise against unwinding to anything on this channel.
@@NedRushno wonder I haven’t slept in a week
Nerd Rush = Venetian Squares. 😋🤌🗡 Fascinating chopage
those skronky reverb throws 😍
Man, I do a lot of these techniques but this vid just showed me some awesome extra tricks I haven't used yet. Thank you. You rock dude.
This vid really inspired me and brought me out of a block. thank you my dude. also have squarepusher's album vinyl coming in this week. Killer album! I'm actually more of an aphextwin fandude than square but love both so much.
What a nightmare. And I love it! 🔥
Yes great vid Ned! I used to work in a small bar in shoreditch where Tom and friends did a free night in the week with other Warp artists jamming. It was excellent!
Sweet.
JFC this one is nuts but love watching how you correct it every time it goes the wrong kind of weird. The bass is my favourite part.
Absolutely incredible! You really nailed it like usual
so inspiring!!! watching your videos is the only reason why i ever touch anything breakcore related haha
this is mindblowing!
I learned loads from this ! nice one
Superb. So much stuff to work with.
as always Ned Rush providing us a very comprehensive tutorial, that is a master training. thanks man
Great! Thanks Ned!!!
I can't help loving this channel
The gift that keeps on giving. This is how i see you mate! Your channel will stand the test of time! Thnak you for sharing the knowledge!
Your approach is amazing, really. You actually make something of interest in every video, and I always learn at least one new thing every time. Seriously good teaching technique mate. Love it.
This is excellent.
Your preamble is spot on, I can relate, and wow I'm so excited for the new album.
this video made me so happy. Thank u Mr. Rush
Didn’t know about the new album! That’s amazing news! Still blows my mind that go plastic was all done on hardware.
Thanks for a great tut, Ned. I totally dig SP. 4 years ago I had tix to see SP in Seattle, then Covid started in Seattle and his US tour got cancelled. I've yet to see him live, hopefully he'll come stateside again soon!
I saw Squarepusher in April of 2004 in NYC and I was never quite the same after. His sets are consistently awesome. North Circular has helped me blow out a car stereo or two.
Man!! This is about the 10th video of yours I've watched and within a few minutes been absolutely shouting at the screen with giddy excitement... So much amazing useful knowledge (and I'm only 20 minutes into it)!! Mapping the midi from the breaks to operator and getting that ridiculous squelchy action is unreal! The Envelope MIDI used as a note trigger is gonna be so handy! Restraining midi notes using Chains and pitch ... Legato for follow on clips!! Of course!!! Randomising phaser/flange delay times ... I never knew that the phlasey fhanger doesn't have to be doing a big swirly lfo whoooshy wow...
Ned, you’re about the only youtuber that can get me to think that breaks and acid bass don’t sound like total garbage. excellent work sir
pure class as always sir Ned, cheers you nutta!
love this
Mr Ned Rush, thank you for all these tut. Keep on creating, greetings from Greece, George
this is amazing!
Thanks so much for this!
Ned just to say that you can press maj + arrow up/down for pitching anything to a whole octave. I can see you manually type +12 or +24 etc.. just press maj+up you'll see. It works everywhere, even in midi clip with selected notes, in Operator with pitch, in any sample pitch too. 🙃
(And also download 'Probee' instead of keep using expression midi control for random, it will change your life).
No one would have expected that Ned Rush is a nerd!
Another awesome tutorial ! thanks Ned, Still working on writing a whole song in one sampler. Much love everyone
Utterly inspirational, sir! I
This is great, thank you, sir.
Age has got nothing to do wiv it when it comes to chopping up breaks.
Legend!
Gona get that Tshirt when I’m 64
What about feed me weird things - that blew my mind for ever.
Great stuff Ned! 👍🏼
Also reminds me of techniques used in:
AFX - Rubber Johnny
ooOohohOhOo !!!
That's it dude, it pushes hard the squares 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I learned more about ableton midi effects in this video than any other. Brilliant and I think you may be my first patreon sub!
This is your best intro ever!
I’d really love to see a similar video made in like sliceX, envelope mapper, and midi fuckery in FL studio. Some of these features have been in FL for so long. But I didn’t gel with the FL UX and didn’t really learn jungle/DNB stuff until Ableton. So here we are. Great video as always!
Yeah SP is super dope and really creative. I haven't listened to him for ages so yeah you win 😂. However I might watch your video later and go explore his music first. Stay cool. I will be back.
thxxx for thisss NED, cheers from Spain mate
Squarepusher is the goat and so you are!
good stuff!
Amazing I’m going to watch this proper tomorrow when I’m not having a few to good to take in now :) class
The midi chance trick to turn things on and off is really powerful! I'll be employing that, ive been trying to rack my head a while now on how to get effects to just turn on then right back off again via chance and doing so at rhythmic intervals, doing so with midi is the perfect thing for that
i love broken beats, ty i love you
I like the long videos 👍 the longer the better 🙂
yes Yes YES! 😍
Ok. You got yourself a new sub
He just dropped a new one. See what you did there :) Appreciate!
Ned, you CANNOT outfan ME!!!!!!!!
Fun video. I admire your persistence in the face of chaos. So funny to watch you overwhelmed by the sheer noise of the thing, interesting watching your problem solving. I would be nice to see how you could then bounce to audio and then edit the takes. Great video very fun.

@@NedRush Thanks Ned
well man squarepusher and autechre, 2 musical treasures for sure, and not to be an asslicker but you're quite yourself the treasure in regards to those crazy videos you put out, so fun and educational ! have to check that patreon of yours ffs ! cheers 👊 🖤
I think you can prevent the high notes by adjusting the midi scale range, by default it is +128
Didn’t know that. I’ll give that a try.
you had me at SPLOOOIIIINNNNNN
the midi envelope trick is genius. damn man. i really should bingewatch everything you ever did and internalize it. 😮
i wonder if you planning to do a video about arranging this beautiful mess into something like a tune. like different aproaches to track this with either bounce or recording. and how you would edit this in the timeline, making more sense out of it, creating a hook.
i feel like i should become a patreon. ❤
Boom! 💥
nice!
This video pushed my squares
Would love to see a more jazz focused video sometime 👍 brilliant stuff though.
I can't say much more than this : ❤
Yooo so glad to see this! Do you think you’d ever do anything on ableton that’s like virtual riot’s video “Death by amen”??? Cheers mate x
I've got a ned rush tattoo on my forehead! Big up
Viva la ned
Hi is possible get some directions for sample all breaks together, what you using for this video on beginning... from where download...
i always listen to squarepusher during breakups. why? idk. but here we are again
My psychology just exploded.
He was amazing at the bluedot a few years ago
I'm so happy to know that you're nuts about Squarepusher the way I am. Jenkins is criminally underrated! But of course he is too complex for non musicians to grasp and fully appreciate.
Bloody hell! This made me laugh so much. Losing your mind!
Yes Sir
"Hello everything!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fuck yeah !
I.m drunk but i promise ill watch this tomorrow. cos i love it.
❤"age has nothing to do with when u are chopping breaks" ❤
Yeah it sounds awright m8, sounds like Goldie 😁
Did you see his day for night performance ? I thought it ended abruptly but was worth it for tundra
I think a lot of other artists get my attention like squarepusher if they put an iota of the work he did into his music. When I first heard Go Plastic in 2001, I put the headphones down and walked out with a sour look on my face like i'd just been kicked in the nuts. I thought it was terrible, but then.....all I could think of was all of the sounds i'd never heard before and I had to go buy it!
I'd vote you for president mate.
Ned creates the PIMP method(parallel inline midi processing)
how do you slice to sampler ??? I can find it
Ned, you’re cool cuz you can make the drums go fast! Had a ticket to see him that got cancelled by Covid, but I don’t think he was bringing his bass on tour, so really, what would be the point? :P
More Venetian Snares than Squarepusher I would say 😂
I can't accept Geoffrey, we need BUNGLE I'm afraid!
Do you know Squarepusher? that question in the beginning says it all ) only nerd can ask this exact question, right?
oh boi
Ned when I try to slice to new midi track I don't have the basic slice to sampler in the list of presets. And all the presets I have just mangle the sound so I can't follow along in the process any ideas?
I figured it out
I don't inderstand at 15:21 why you do that, the "follow action" is still set at half a bar, no ?
Don't bite the funk that feeds ya
I cannot find the option 'slice to sampler' in the drop down menu of 'slice to midi track' Can anyone help me ?
Yes. Google slicing presets.
@@NedRush ???
@@NedRush I did not understand what you meant in your message. But i have had to work my way around it by performing some adjustments in the sampler.
If I could send you a photo of the drop down menu of 'slice to midi track' I think you would see what problem I am having?
Cheers for this vid by the way. I have been wanting to learn how slice and dice up my beats to make my tracks less boring. 👍
bah gawd that's beat repeat's music!
where do you get the samples?
The Internet.
