Dad bought a new 400 gas in 57, suppose it was a left over model. It arrived from the dealer with the new white painted parts like the 450. IIRC, the differences other than paint were standard power steering, improved fast hitch, over size pistons, larger fuel tank, and slightly improved hydraulics. The fuel tank on the diesel version was smaller like our old 400 gas, didn't have the deep sump like on your 450. I am currently working on a 450 diesel, need a set of sleeves and a good head.

My moms uncle owned a case dealership in town so dad who like John Deere bit the bullet and bought a 1086 brand new. And a 450 in 1977 or so as a second loader and other jobs. We ran it in 2006 or so on a heavy feed wagon and burned it out she’s still here so gonna fix her up soon. We are all Deere now

Getting tired of wanting to watch farm videos of the equipment working and instead having to listen to everyone flapping their gums the entire time. HUGE FAIL👎

Thought of that. I have one on a Farmall M and never had a problem with it. Guess I’m stubborn and want it to work the way it should which is through the hydraulic system. The problem is that the priority valve which is supposed to divert flow to the power steering on demand went bad. I have a new priority valve on it now and it works but it’s not factory and has to be periodically adjusted. Anyway, I got a bit of money tied up in this so I need to see if I can use it this way before I go the Charlynn direction. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Roger, looking good! I just bought the same tractor and I’m trying to figure out the power steering system myself. Hopefully my owner’s manual will shed some light on the system.
