I think the whole timeless thing is just from being worn out on trying so hard to be creative with fashion. You just end up getting exhausted & going to “timeless” because it’s so easy but still looks good.
haven’t really updated my wardrobe in years, i’ve bought clothes obviously but it’s been more to replace the same exact piece i have and it’s for this exact reason
Exactly, everyone who’s too overly obsessed with the fashion world just gets bored and eventually realises it’s all in their head. No one cares what you’re wearing to the extent that half of your days should be spent browsing vinted or eBay or ssense. It’s never that important. ‘Timeless’ aesthetics are boring but they always look good and classy and have a very similar positive effect to an overly well styled outfit that tools you much longer to curate. People eventually realise the pay off isn’t worth it when a timeless wardrobe will always look good inherently.
@all-caps3927 Well thats the problem if you're browsing for clothes all the time you're missing the point imo. I like going on my instagram and looking at all the different fits people put together, putting them into separate collections. Unless you're terminally dopamine deprived, you can go on there for a few minutes, get some inspiration, look at some pieces, and keep it on the backburner. There's no need to rush what you like, because what you like is never going to suddenly disappear the next day. Its how those clothes come together where the magic happens. Sometimes I even look at instagram and find fits I don't like and add them to a collection of stuff I don't like, just so I know what doesn't appeal to me. Lots of people got Salomon's and style them horribly, in ways I cannot comprehend how they thought it complimented the rest of the outfit. Thats where the real pedal hits the metal, not looking at SSENSE or Mr. Porter.

Clothes are not "timeless" by design. Each generation extends their lifespan and makes them "timeless" by wearing them. We like them, because they connect us with a different time period, whether that's personal (typically because they remind us of our parents) or historical (to show appreciation to the people/culture of that time).
legit stoked to see you in 3 years talking about being 30. I turned 35 last year and while I dont have the time and energy to put on full makeup and accessories etc, I have my Cool Jacket that carries me through life and that's enough for me.
At a certain point you want to start dressing like a grown man because aiming for “drip” starts to feel ridiculous when you got those early grey hairs coming in
not at that point yet, but it’s also kinda tiring to dress like ur at max level drip don so u just wanna wear some basic stuff but look put together still.
Wear clothes that look good on your body. Doesn’t really matter if they’re timeless or modern, you just gotta look good. It’s that simple. Try everything, stick with what you like.
OK, but if you wear shit that's never gonna go out of style you're never really out of style. If you wear shit that's in style then you always have to worry about keeping up with the trends
There is no such thing as timeless, it's a marketing term. I have some T-shirts from the former Soviet union, the Olympic games merchandise and the kids today would laugh themselves stupid at how tightly fitted they are. I love those tees, but even something as simple as a T-shirt can be dated based on its cut and textile. So do yourself a favour and give up the idea that 'timeless' exists, and wear whatever dated crap you want.
@@Killjoy_MelThere is such a thing as timeless. It's basically men's style and fashion items that have stood the test of time for generations. 11:13 i remember watching these videos in probably 2021 and you said “never wear a long sleeve just wear a crewneck” and that stuck with me to this day and now you’re saying you love them 😣😣
Having a full wardrobe of fast fashion is definitely awful, but mixing some in for basics can be fine. H&M crew necks and tees fit me really well and last, so I buy some in different colors. Not all fast fashion is bad, you just have to know what can be good
maybe not truly timeless, but I like to use the word when describing pieces I may source from either my grandparents' time, or just straight up from their closets.
Men's styles don't really change much (unless you're on the cutting edge). Oxford cotton button downs, straight jeans, etc aren't exactly stylish, but still look good and have been around for decades.
My recent rule has been 80% timeless + 20% new / trend. So for example wear something basic that works on whatever era you live in then throw in maybe a jacket or some shoes that are in. Should work without trying too hard
I stopped caring about trends and started buying stuff that will last. Nobodies accused me of having no / low taste yet, and I get to build upon my wardrobe instead of buying new shit all the time
I think its great when you show simple examples from your own wardrobe and also when you break down concepts. Felt like i learnt alot from this video thanks for putting in all the hard work dog

When I slid into my dad’s 60s leather bomber I understood why new ones look bad. Those damn things are as heavy as motorcycle leathers! You HAVE to have good posture to set the drape & the weight makes you look way better. Too bad I was worn out by the end of the block, I’m a frail older lady, had to pass it on to my 24 yr old, that’s the age for a tank of a jacket…
I feel the same, I get obsessed with one fit and need it in a few different colours and textures. This summer (Australia) it was skorts and loose tanks because skirts ride up and shorts show too much ass. Now I need about 10 different pinafore dresses because I have a boyfriend and ladies with boyfriends don't wear skorts!

Thank you for such a thoughtful video Chris!! I have been on a fashion journey (semi-seriously for the past two years) exploring sustainable design and only recently had a shift in mindset that physicalized as me clearing a large suitcase of clothes to the thrift store, charity and hopefully setting up an online store. Researching mid-evil philosophers about metaphysics, as I currently understand it, everything in life needs a god to exist. This inspired me to approach craft with clearer trust in design. Every object becomes a world to explore, each purchase a distinct commitment to culture, to an idea set in the future but based in the past and requires the present to exist. Maybe a question for you if you are reading this Chris would be, with great respect is how do you find the discipline to maintaine a life of modesty today, is it in design/curation that our people can sustain a healthy lifestyle, a wise approach to dissecting wisdom or is the line between ‘fashion identity’ and basic needs so blurred by corporations that it just feels like it’s a me problem. I do acknowledge by gods will, I have been gifted the luxury to afford buying clothes, and so my experience is specific to this lifestyle and struggling with fashion promotion and retail experiences. Thank you for reading hoping this made some sense. Not looking for any response but I would appreciate any constructive comments. Peace and Blessings from the most High
It's just normal good looking style for people who aren't teenagers anymore. I don't know why does it need to be labeled as "old money" but if someone is trying to rolaplay having generational wealth then it's cringy. What I'm trying to say is that even the intent matters

I don’t even remember the last time I purchased clothing for myself other than socks and underwear. I have reverted back to my childhood way of acquiring clothes, birthdays and Christmas gifts. Also random gifts from my GF.
The culture has shifted away from being excessively flashy in a way that has made being very neutral flashy. It's like playing cool in front of a girl knowing you really want to talk to her and she realizes you're playing cool on purpose and she wants to talk to you for that reason. Weirdest analogy but I think at some point people get tired of playing cool or being flashy entirely and just want to be a chill guy instead.
Wait… title says timeless fashion is boring. But literally you say the opposite, because it just requires nuance. I feel like they’re saying different things. But great bait!
I bought me a pair of black boots last year and I haven’t looked back since. It goes well with my suits, casual, and work clothes. Kinda sad I only found out about it in my 20s
The issue is that a lot of the pieces that we consider "timeless" are now nerfed from their original models because of the modern "quick fashion" seen, where nothing is meant to last. These older models and designs feature better materials, better stiching, and other features that are now vestigial. As a result, these newer "timeless" pieces seem boring because they've removed everything that made them unique or useful.
I understand the sentiment that timeless fashion can be boring. In essence what he’s saying is things such as color, texture, and silhouette can add more interest to standard “boring” pieces, which is what we are currently seeing in fashion. What comes to mind is the “cool girl” aesthetic. Basically taking traditional items of clothing, and updating them to give it a modern and edgy feel by adjusting the fit (i.e. oversized, relaxed silhouettes), color (darker or lighter washes), textures, or even symmetry (an asymmetrical button down for example can still look polished while being visually interesting).
1) entertaining 2) my brother in christ do you have an opinion on dieworkwear? i feel like hes very specific with cultural aesthetics and being explicit about classic drapes and all, but he gave me the language of fashion being a cultural lingo, and i feel like what you've videos remind me of are what's in the ether for our generation, jokes, and also just this based/wild encouragement to enjoy the specificity of your own sauce/nuance
That waffled military long-sleeve thermal from the '90s caught my eye; I've seen it several times this week... Is there a timeless trend for that pattern happening right now, or is it just the Google algorithm doing its things?

‘Timeless’ aesthetics are boring but they always look good and classy and have a very similar positive effect to an overly well styled outfit that tools you much longer to curate.
People eventually realise the pay off isn’t worth it when a timeless wardrobe will always look good inherently.

Could you make a video about what is the best season for fashion? Personally I like fall or spring but I’m wondering what others would say to this.

You should start a twitch or go live on TH-cam occasionally. I’d watch that.
