Schenker is and always has been my favorite guitarist. I met him twice and he’s an odd dude. I love this maniac.

As influential as anyone of the era, but underrated and underappreciated. The use of modes, modified minor scales, arpeggios and the three notes per string playing were things he was doing before Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen. Micheal and Rik Emmett are not properly recognized.

I'm very glad that Schenker turned his life around for the better. On most interviews I've seen of him he speaks a lot about the spirituality of music. And I'm sure that's the main thing that kept him sane during those dark years and motivated him to recover and keep playing. For me he's a real electric guitar innovator.

@@fullinbloom His band was great in 1980-81 with Gary Barden, Cozy Powell, Paul Raymond, was Michael doing drugs around that time or just later, MSG opened for Molly Hatchet in 1980 but unfortunately i was 16 and couldn't get there, i still remember missing that show, oh well.

@@corvettebmw I am wondering if he was doing them then as well . That original lineup was amazing !

@@corvettebmw I saw Schenker open for Molly Hatchet on that tour. Been a fan of his every since. Even sober, Michael is a weird dude (I met him several years ago). But he is absolutely one of the best rock guitarists of all time.

Michael Schenker is a Christain today. He's 100% free of alcohol and drugs.

Schenker was otherworldly at the height of his fame. The UFO song, Born to Lose, caused psychic disturbances when I played it once. Schenker's eerie guitar solo was accompanied by odd whisperings - the word "Wishart" was heard several times. Radio interference? Maybe, but I don't think so. The first MSG release after this ghostly fire incident was Perfect Timing. Michael sounded unusually restrained on that (rather good) album, but his damaged Flying-V retained echoes from the fire.

Wow! Beyond the deets about Michael's 80s meltdown, the lowdown on Ray Kennedy is amazing.
I had no clue about Ray's history. He is almost the Kevin Bacon of the music industry having played across multiple genres over 5 decades.
His entertainment career began 1960 at age 14 as a dancer on American Bandstand. Dick Clark paid him to pantomime the saxophone solos of featured artists!
He co-wrote the super-huge hit "Every Time I Think of You" for The Babys (John Waite's band before he went solo).
So sad that like Michael and so many others Ray had his demons.

Ah, the "Tortured Artist" tale. Common theme throughout all forms of creativity. But make no mistake: if you know anything about RnR, guitar playing and the guitar genre, Michael Schenker is a Hall oF Famer . The tone of his guitar through a cocked wah pedal : silky highs, creamy lows and smooth mids , almost akin to a human voice. His use Classical voicings in a Rock setting.....basically just his personality and style on guitar: he was/is an original, no doubt about it.
That said , people are people...... go research who David Krebs is/was , then you'll know the meaning of "Pot meet Kettle" .

MS seemed genuinely shy about being on stage. Sex, drugs and rock and roll - for sure.
Never cared for his many albums. There good. Metalheads love him. But no. Not for me.

I’d say the live album rock will never die(I think put out because studio effort built destroy didn’t really come across well)is a good example of what his playing is about.Probably desert song the highlight for me on that
