    I was just going to post about and then saw you had a clip of the spot. I flipped my kayak just a few hundred yards downstream from Bowersock Dam in Lawrence a few years ago. Nearly lost my life as it was in early April and the water was still very cold and the current kept sweeping me away from my kayak. Definitely lucky to be alive!

      Definitely very scary. I know the MO river is known for obviously being bigger, faster and very dangerous but, the Kaw is a little underestimated in how dangerous it can be. Many people have lost their lives on the Kansas. Especially around the dams and with the water up and moving. The cold water definitely doesn't help. Glad you made it out and I bet it makes you feel good to be alive!!

      @@CatfishKC yes sir, very thankful to be here. I went into "cold shock" when I hit the water and it immediately pushed the air out of my lungs when I got to the surface. I was struggling to breathe, couldn't even yell out for help and the cold zapped any strength I had to pull myself back up but thankfully I was able to hang on to the kayak and eventually pull myself in. I immediately reevaluated my safety precautions when I'm on the river as that was just foolish of me, but as you pointed out, many people haven't been as lucky on the Kansas river. I'm not one to be spiritual, but I know someone was watching over me that day.
      Thanks for the kind words and stay safe! 👍

      Yeah early on I used to anchor way too close to dams and didn't realize how dangerous it was. We've learned through a lot of our close calls and we hope to share them so people watching will know what to do and what not to do.
      I believe in God and both Nick and I both believe God answers prayer and he's done a lot in both of our lives. I believe he had his hand on you and helped you get through that .. And yes. It makes you re evaluate your safety precautions for sure!! These waters are powerful.

    • @CatfishKC

      Ok. That would be Turner Diagonal Bridge boat ramp or for a safer option you could use the ramp at Kaw point and go all the way up to below the dam.

    Ive always wanted to fish that spot up by Edwardsville but heard its super shallow thru that stretch. Any pointers in navigating to that spot from the ramp?

    • @CatfishKC
      @CatfishKC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. That spot is really fun and I've known alot of people to catch massive fish there. The last time we went to that spot on the boat, the water levels were alot higher than they are. I'm guessing your talking about the dam / waterfall at 435?... The trip up from the boat ramp at Turner Diagonal isn't bad and it seems to only get shallow in spots and currently shallow right near the dam.
      If you are talking about the Edwardsville boat ramp, it's really shallow right there and you need a boat that doesn't sit low in the water. it's typically fairly shallow at the Edwardsville boat ramp which is above the dam.. but when you get in the water you go straight out from the boat ramp towards the other shoreline. don't try to cut across diagonally in the water. go straight to the other side of the river and about three quarters of the way there, there will be a drop off and you can follow that tree line most of the way down and be in 10- 20 ft of water. there is a section in the middle of the trip where it gets fairly shallow. you'll just have to watch out for that one spot

    • @WeekendPursuitOutdoors
      @WeekendPursuitOutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Catfish KC Ya was talking about Edwardsville. I've fished 435 alot. I usually park at KAW Point and run up. Now KAW point closed at like 10 or 11 PM so can't park there all night as they lock the gate. I feel parking at Turner during the day isn't bad but at night, ya roll the dice. Thanks for the info! How is the current up at Edwardsville? To heavy to use the Terrova to get around?

    • @CatfishKC
      @CatfishKC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WeekendPursuitOutdoors The current is barely moving at the Edwardsville ramp. When the water was high it obviously is quick but at a typical level, it's probably one of the easiest places to drop with a slow current.
      We didn't fish 435 from a boat this last year just because Turner seemed to get worse and the ramp at Kaw Point closing early. I've been told you can call a Sheriff and he'll let you out of Kaw Point but, I haven't wanted to try that yet
