This worked great on my NW-WM1A…was having a bit of trouble at first, but that is because you do need to turn off and turn back on the device to see the new option for language. Thank you!!
Adding to the chorus that this worked without incident. I did have to factory reset the device to see the English option, but I think that a simple restart would've had the same effect. Thanks!
This worked on a NW-A55, I had to reset the device settings after these steps and then I could change the language.....YOU JUST SAVED ME FROM HAVING TO LEARN JAPANESE......THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was going to have to find a good sushi restaurant to help me figure this out...LOL
Works like a charm in July 2024, had to turn on and off before the "language" setting would come up but other than that perfect instructions. Thank you!
I had the same problem. @Scott, please add in your video that the device needs to be powered off before the "language" setting appears. Otherwise, I was going into a freak out at having bought a device overseas that I couldn't understand because the language wasn't changing.
@@arjunk283 I like it. After I did the language conversion it works the same as anywhere else in the world. I am having a bit of difficulty downloading MrWalkman's new firmware because it is specifically a Japanese model though. But for me the novelty of getting it shipped from Japan was worth it. I would imagine that modifying it through these tools voids the warranty but I'm not sure. My warranty is in Japanese I can't read it lol
Hi Scott, You saved the day! The tool worked on converting a Sony nw-wm1z to english. I had to restart unit and then the English language showed up. I love the gold brick, did not want to return it.
all i get from the link is a Gateway Timeout error....only successful to reach the site once and even then it did not have the screen shown in the video. I am not blaming any of this on the content creator. I am mostly mad at Sony for not have 101 language options available on the very first screen you see. I spent all this money and now I have to do even more digging just to use the thing. Someone please help
it worked, does using this U variant though chagne the sound signature from J? ive heard J and one other region had t he best "sound" i also wanna do walman mod
It worked! But like another person said, I had to restart the Walkman after I completed the steps in the video before the option to change the language became visible. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all the help!
I have followed your very clear instructions on my brand new A55 and everything has gone well except the last bit: I don't see the word Language coming up. I get the same four Japanese characters but without (Language) after them. I have tried restarting as described below but this didn't make a difference. Any suggestions?
In case of my Japanese NW-A55 I tried to change it to CA (Canada) first (to enable high gain output) - this did not work, the language option was not showing in the menu (yeah I tried resetting a few times, no change). However I tried changing to U (US) and this worked fine the first time. After this I was able to change it to CA (Canada). So.. try changing to U (US) first followed by power off/power on.
@@dupalopez Many thanks but I regret I sent it back (at no small cost to me!) because I didn't think I would be able to convert it. 'Really appreciate your response, though.
I assume you could change the language on the unit itself if you read Japanese? I hate the idea of having to use a standalone program to do this, plus one of your comments said they got a virus doing this.
Very good video! Excellent job explaining the process. The screen shots were also very useful. I did have to restart the A55 prior to being able to see the word (language). Thank you for making this.
agree this is a really important step. while it was still plugged in - i was wondering why i couldnt see the "English" option. and wasnt till i unplugged it - powered the device down and turned it back on that it worked.

if you try on a AW-A17 you will have to go to settings icon as in the video, scroll to last option (common settings), then one before last (initialise) and then the first option (reset all settings). This restores device to factory mode (english)
