will the rockbox stuff work on a Sony Walkman NW-A828 ? I don't see it on the list to see if it'll work or not (T^T)

I had a lot of trouble with the "scsitool" command on the command line; it didn't recognize it. I have Windows 11 Pro. After a couple of hours, I just moved/copied the command from my download folder to the command line. It took a while, but it did work. I also rebooted my device. It changed the interface from Japanese to English on my Sony Walkman NW50. I am now a happy camper. Thanks much, Scott. (11/14/24)

Is this work with NW A45

If like me you're having trouble getting the tool to see your NW-A45: try a different drive letter. My PC was sure it was E:, but the tool recognised it as H: Very odd, but now my device is in English!!

LIFESAVER!! anyone else trying this, you might have to restart your device before the languages option will show up (hold down power for 8 secs)

My computer won’t allow me to download the software tool. Any suggestion

I have tried to open the file on a couple different computers. It will download and when I try to open it the screen briefly pops up and then immediately crashes. If anyone knows what is going on and what I can do to troubleshoot this issue I would appreciate any ideas.

It worked on my NW-A35! I had to turn it off and reboot it but it worked! I've been trying to use it with the Japanese setting for 4 years. Thank you!

Hi Scott, or anyone on here, when I type in the command prompt C:\Users\marki\Downloads>scsitool-nw-27.exe D: dest_tool get, I get the response 'scsitool-nw-27.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any ideas at all anyone? Am I getting something wrong? Thanks !

Works like a charm in July 2024, had to turn on and off before the "language" setting would come up but other than that perfect instructions. Thank you!

If i reset the walkman it goes back to japanese software or it stays like that?

Booyah. Thanks - worked like a charm. Like others, still had to turn the player off/on after doing the dos prompts (man that takes me back) to get the language setting to appear. Now I can read my cool Walkman.

This worked on a NW-A55, I had to reset the device settings after these steps and then I could change the language.....YOU JUST SAVED ME FROM HAVING TO LEARN JAPANESE......THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was going to have to find a good sushi restaurant to help me figure this out...LOL

if you try on a AW-A17 you will have to go to settings icon as in the video, scroll to last option (common settings), then one before last (initialise) and then the first option (reset all settings). This restores device to factory mode (english)

Adding to the chorus that this worked without incident. I did have to factory reset the device to see the English option, but I think that a simple restart would've had the same effect. Thanks!

For anybody else who does this to theirs, if the language option doesen't appear after the steps above try turning the Walkman off and on again.

That website is down right now. That sucks but if you use Mr.Walkman custom firmware it will change japanese players to English thankfully

thx for the vid! YMMV...for anyone trying this on linux (i.e. ubuntu) once you mount the usb device, it'll be assigned to the path /media/<user>/WALKMAN. But this isn't what you want, (I renamed my file) run this `sudo ./scsitool list_devices`, you should see two rows returned one represents the "device", the other the "storage"? ``` Sony device(s) found: /dev/sg2 /dev/sdb ... /dev/sg3 /dev/sdc ... ``` From the instructions on rockbox, you're looking for something that looks like "/dev/sbX", since I have two values from the rows, I ran `sudo ./scsitool /dev/sdb dest_tool get` and `sudo ./scsitool /dev/sdc dest_tool get` only one of these should return you device info Then i picked the one that returned device info and used it to select the US region `sudo ./scsitool /dev/sdb dest_tool set U off`, I had to reboot my walkman before the language option appeared GL!
