Thanks for posting and for showing the fingering so well! It is a great help learning this beautifull piece! And a splendid performance as well - Thanks!
I have just finished learning this song, It is absolutely wonderful and I love it. I like what goldnspots2 was saying. I also play this song soft towards the end and dolce in the beginning.
Thanks! We plan to put more up after we have a chance to review old concert footage. I have some old video from 25 years ago, but I don't have a Betamax player, so I'll have to have a professional help me. We'll do some new stuff as well.
I was wondering, why did you select the Carrington guitar for this particular piece? Spruce/Maple must be brighter in tone, than other combinations, with fewer overtones but strong projection? I enjoyed both the guitar and your performance.
@@mkrhoades - Michelle, Thanks for the nice comment. Circumstances "chose" the guitar I used for that concert..My Gregory Byers guitar was at a luthier's shop for repairs. However, I do feel the Carrington sounded beautiful for that recording.
HV-L died when I was 3 yrs old, so I didn't have a chance to study with him. However, I have studied with guitarists who knew him personally. The very few variances from the score are all things he either did himself or approved, except for the dynamics at the end. (Please listen to John Williams' recording.) Also, I learned the passage with the parallel 6ths from Carlos Barbosa-Lima who studied with Isaias Savio. Savio was the most important teacher in Brazil until his death in 1977.
Hi Cary, Thanks for the comment. My interpretation is "technically" incorrect. However, I reverse the order of the Preludes and play #1 last. It just makes more sense to me that way. My reworking of the dynamics is the result of the order of play.
Nevermind the bad comments...if we pay close attention to either John Williams' or Julian Bream's rendition of this piece, they themselves play some notes that aren't in the music sheet. However, the melody is maintained intact and it doesn't diminish the quality of their interpretation. I myself, depending on my mood, may play this song in various manners. Cheers mate!
Awesome. I thought my interpretation was too lively. A little too much vibrato here, too much crescendo there, too heavy on the forte. But you play it exactly like I want to play it. Unabashedly romantic. Bravo. :D
mr.mcguire, sir you really play the guitar so well.i would gladly see you again playing.more power!non
Thanks. I'm so happy to hear from people who like it.
It was medicine to my soul. Thank you.

Great performance; lots of feeling but still sharp and crisp; one of the best versions I've heard.
Listening to Chris perform at TT in Fort Worth TX....great Alhambra rendition!

Brilliant performance. Just starting to learn this myself and your excellent performance gives me something to (unrealistically!) aspire to! Love it !

The guitar in the video was made by Chris Carrington. (Maple back and sides, spruce top) I also perform with a guitar made by Greg Smallman.

@Mitthrawnuruodo1 - It's just one of several alternate versions approved by Villa-Lobos. There's another with John Williams playing on TH-cam.
wonderful
Thank you. CM

At 1:09 he doesnt play the exact music, he just uses his pink, but the music says he must slide his pink and ringfinger.
