the actual rs6 will always beat the actual M5 it's just the way it is! ;) In this comp here it's a newer rs6 vs an older M5 the m5 driver reaction was a bit slow by accelerating but even if not the rs 6 will always win!
Also, the RS6 got a 5-speed automatic gearbox: the M5 got a 6-spd manual, which is a delight to use, much better than Audi's slushmatic. However, with the newer E60 M5, I might be tempted by the RS6. The M5 is too complex. But I'd want a Jaguar XFR more than either. And, if I really needed an estate, I'd get a C or E63 AMG. Or build my own, Ascari-tuned, E39 M5 Touring. I've already got a 520i Touring, I just need some M5 mechanicals and suspension... others have already done it, it is possible.

Not surprised at all. The older M5 is a V8, vs. a twin turbo V8 in the Audi, clearly the Audi wins. A more interesting test would be the RS6 C5 vs. E60 M5, then a tuned RS6 CS5 vs. the M5 with a tune.

@EnvyMeGkB I agree I might have worded it a litlle confusing, but the 5.2 is a Lamborghini-sourced engine. Built in '03, used in I believe a few select models. In '06, Audi received permission from Lambo to use a slightly modified version of their 5.2 V10 for use in the aforementioned vehicles. My own driver's manual for my S6 says it's a Lambo-sourced motor.

Once i had a A4 Avant S packet and with that car i experienced something i`ve never known before and never saw later. After reaching 180KM/H the car had some acceleration, but then, thanks to the aerodynamical shape it got noticeably lower and it was like the wind was not there anymore and the car accelerated like from 80KM/H again :) Today i got a BMW. I was happy with the Audi, but today i`m happy with the BMW, no dispute, no bad talking. Both are well done cars
After watching this video I bought this car in Avant form. Damn it is like owning your own fairground all day every day! Well I also liked the car from the start...
@ROTAX17 not a bad idea if you want to have some fun with a 5-cyl turbo engine ;-) easy to tune! For a daily driver I have a more confortable car though. I cant decide between an E60 M5 or B7 RS4 since I just moved (to a cold country so maybe I should get the quattro)
@94XJ fair call, actual times vs specs are pretty far apart. we have stock standard xr6turbo's doing 12.6 on the quarter mile and the FPV F6 goes as low as 12.3. surely thats close to the rs6 or m5? it shares the same auto ZF6speed gearbox as bmw :D I have only spent 3.5grand Aus on bolt on mods and tune which i think is pretty good considering it will crack 300kph quite easily
@GdRoock That's how it would appear, but the Audi V10 was actually engineered independently from the gallardo. I had this same argument with an Audi engineer a long time ago, except I was in your shoes.
I don't know too much about the Audi's RS line; I'm only aware that it only comes out every couple years for different models IIRC. Anyways, I did a bit of searching up and only found the only current RS6 C6 comes with a 5.0L twin turbo V10. producing 571 bhp. Unless there's another RS6 I'm missing out on. Link please :D

@GdRoock The V10 in the RS6 is not the same as the Gallardo. The one in the RS6 is by no means a "de-tuned" version found in the Gallardo. They may appear the same, but hey, when the parent company (Volkswagen) owns BOTH companies, that's bound to raise eyebrows. BTW, most of the more recent Lamborghini models are designed by Audi, not the other way around.

Well by putting a turbo you can get more power but you need to put properly not to mention that we are talking about production cars which have to be reliable and stuff . still BMW and Audi uses turbos when needed Audis new RS4 RS5 , R8 V8 and V10 are all naturaly aspirated cars , but for the RS6 they could just pop a NA engine from lambo but they decided to use their own with twin turbo for more torque , since the break weighs more than 2tonnes it is more efficient
@Mowner3 I´m agree with you. It´s not all about horsepower and speed. For example, a Lotus has less BHPs than those german cars but are a lot more fun to drive.

you know the difference between a charged and a un-charged engine is not only the charger. it's a very different construction. sure you can mount a supercharger or turbocharger to your m5 engine.. but then you have to replace lots of other components, too!

I've had the Audi RS6 and the V10 M5. Personally i preferred the BMW because of the build quality was a much comfortable car to drive and the naturally aspirated v10 sounded like a monster. Also the HUD up display was excellent. The Audi suffered massive turbo lag and was a bitch around the circuit because it felt like a whale. Thumbs up M5

@ROTAX17 The Audi weighs around 1.9 tonnes, the E39 M5 weighs 1.8. Both f-ing heavy. The only german road test I could find tested a sedan C5 RS6 at 15.7 seconds to 200 km/h. The E39 M5 I found 2 tests, one did 16.9s the other 18.0s. So nothing wrong with this test, objectively...while un-objective, my volvo has no problem outrunning my buddy's de-catted and chipped E39 M5 either.

I think it is a damn shame the RS6 didn't have the option of a manual transmission, even the new one with the V10 should at least have the option in my opinion.. Still a great car though

I couldn't find any RS4 in this vid. Only found RS6 model year 2002 and M5 model year 1998 / facelift 2000. so what's your problem?

@ROTAX17 The Audi weighs around 1.9 tonnes, the E39 M5 weighs 1.8. Both f-ing heavy.
The only german road test I could find tested a sedan C5 RS6 at 15.7 seconds to 200 km/h. The E39 M5 I found 2 tests, one did 16.9s the other 18.0s.
So nothing wrong with this test, objectively...while un-objective, my volvo has no problem outrunning my buddy's de-catted and chipped E39 M5 either.

I know, but thats exactly why i say Merc and Bimmers are for real men, cause they CAN handle oversteering!
They are not novice, and need a varable amount of power to the front wheel to handle the beast within, AWD is perfect for rallyin. for racing rwd is best.

I think it is a damn shame the RS6 didn't have the option of a manual transmission, even the new one with the V10 should at least have the option in my opinion.. Still a great car though

perosöhnlich mag ich audi nen tickn lieber da die in den kleineren klassen wie der 3er reiher hinten auch nochn bisschen mehr platz haben wo mein bei bmw hingegen leider suche muss aber wie gesagt beides geile autos!!!
so können wir uns jetzt wieder alle lieb haben und aufhören darüber zu streiten welche auto marke besser ist?
