- Esma was born on August 8, 1943, in Skopje, now the capital of Macedonia.During her life she has performed in more than 8000 concerts in 30 countries, with her late husband Stevo Teodosievski she has fostered forty-seven children, and she has received numerous accolades for her humanitarian work. By her own account she has created more than 500 works of art.These include 108 singles, 20 albums, and 6 movies.

Esma je zena-carica ,lavica u horoskopu i velikom srcu kojeg nesebicno poklanja deci bez roditeljskog staranja.Peva glasom koji je tesko oponasati,obozavam je godinama,svaka joj cast u svemu,bog joj dao gde god stala.

This is not the music I usually listen to,but this lady blew me away.I feel like getting drunk and not giving a hoot about anything.Truly amazing and touching.

And second: most balkan countries like serbia and romania helped the Nazis with collecting and gasing us gypsies so this is NOT YOUR CULTURE, THIS IS OUR CULTURE! the song is even about what the nazis (and thereby serbs and romanians) did to us.. especially serbs were always good at claiming everything we did as their own and its enough..

My grandmother is related to Esma and she was born in Skopje in 1943 like her. She knew her very well. :D I'm so proud to be related to Esma. She is the Queen!!

I saw a video of gypsy musicians from my local library, forget the name off hand. That's how I first heard of her. I listen to death and black metal and yet I love her music. Her voice is so powerful and beautiful. When she sings you stop and listen. It doesn't matter how they are dressed or what she is; Greek, Macedonian, Slav.....music transcends ethnicity.

to me she looks like a gipsy and her name is muslim but I listen to to this video for her voice and her and her sisters exotic bauty. they both are just amazing women. they bring tears to people's eyes and we all adore them. like whole peninsula. I only today read about her raising 47 kids and creating 500 "works of art" like too long to list here. and I felt they were special since ii was a little kid watching them on TV. articles are wrote about these two ladies and nobody fussed about them being macedonian or greek. first time for me to read that...
Esma was a Romani Muslim [ Romani is the term the community called themselves ]
Her mother was a Romani [ Gypsy ] Muslim and her father's parents were Romani Catholic and Iraqi Jew.
Since her father's name was Ibrahim, we can assumed that he converted to Islam at the time or before marrying to Esma's mother.
Esma herself was a Muslim. When she died, she had a Muslim funeral.
You stupid people quarrel on the issue of Macedonia and Greece, not undersstanding that Esma is a Gipsy (or Roma) of Turkish origin and islamic religion, only by case born in Macedonia. She sings in Romani or Gipsy language and was recognized by Indira Ghandi as "the queen of Gipsy music in the World". As such, she is adored among all of us from former Yugoslavia, no matter what we are by nationality and religion. Stop boring us with your stupidity and political disputes and let us enjoy in her perfect voice.

I have always had a superficial but intense and real admiration and a somewhat nostalgic feeling about the Romani culture.I have always been drawn to it.Some days ago I was browsing through some photos when I saw a Romani woman.I asked my grandma and I discovered that when my family was located to Asia minor,an great uncle of mine married that Romani woman.That doesn't make me in any part Romani but it explains in an almost chilling to me at least manner my frequent fascination with this beautiful bunch
