  • EXPLANATION:
On Friday 13th of January 2023, Delta Airlines Flight 1943 was departing Runway 4 Left at Kennedy International Airport, KJFK. Enroute for takeoff was an American Airlines B777-300(ER), American 106 Heavy to London Heathrow. Delta 1943 was cleared for takeoff on Runway 4 Left while American 106 Heavy was told ‘Cross Runway 31L at Kilo’, which was before Runway 4 Left. The pilot read back the correct statement. While Delta was rolling for takeoff, American did not turn Kilo and instead went forward, straight to the Departing runway. Without permission, despite multiple commands to stop, it crossed, while Delta was rolling, Luckily, Tower commanded Delta ‘Delta 1943 Cancel takeoff clearance’, which is to abort takeoff, in the nick of time, without collision, American then continued to taxi to then hold short of 31 Left. Delta 1943 then returned to a gate. The reason this was so dramatic is previously, an incident nicknamed, ‘The Tenerife disaster’ occurred. 2 Boeing 747’s, Panam and KLM were on the same runway, and due to the low visibility couldn’t see each other, the KLM was rolling and before they could stop, they collided.

Last comments elsewhere are saying they did not cooperate with the initial FAA investigation and it's still ongoing.
