Not everyone grieves the same way. At this point it probably still seemed surreal for them. Probably at least partially because they're used to all sorts of myths and rumors flying around about their brother. It probably took a while for it to sink in that this one was true. Most reports even say that Katherine didn't really start grieving hardcore until after they got Michael's body into the ground. That's when reality finally hit home when he was permanently buried under cement.
