Lithuanian was my first language as my parents came to the US after the war. As I became Americanized I lost sight of the beauty of the language. Left it as I grew older and now am revisiting it and these lesson were a perfect way to reacquaint me to how beautiful it Is.Thank you. You do a good job Acieu. Kestuitis,
This was seriously a helpful video, thanks a lot for sharing. I have just moved to Lithuania because my husband is Lithuanian. And I'm a Turk. He and I talk to each other in English but his relatives cannot speak English. And I want to learn Lithuanian ASAP! :)
Thanks. What level is your Lithuanian? It's difficult for foreigners to have good stress because there are so many patterns. Native speakers have these patterns in their heads, however, they rarely even notice them. Nevertheless, stress isn't important as long as natives can understand you. The biggest struggle is to gain basic skills on noun declension, verb conjugation, adjectives and word formation. I hope my videos will help you. There will be more: listening, word families, linking words.
And how about now, I guess your not in Lithuania anymore? Ir kaip dabar, tikriausiai jau nebesi Lietuvoje? Have you learned something more since this comment of yours? Ar ką nors daugiau išmokai nuo to laiko, kai parašei šį komentarą?
I absolutely love it!! Thank you for putting up such amazing content! I have always wanted to learn Lithuanian both for family reasons and because it is such a beautiful and old language with such a rich culture and nation backing it, but I’ve been discouraged a lot of times because it is so hard to find content! You’re such a good teacher, too!! After just one video I feel like I have a lot better of a grip on the language than I ever had before! Thank you so much and I hope to see new content soon!
I met a friend for Lithuania, and we became Best Friends (Even tho we havent seen each other in real life). But i want to learn a bit of Lithuanian for when we do meat :) ! This tutorial is very easy nice job and thank you for takeing the time ! Buck1800 is our ! PEEACE !
Ruther Rivera Try watching 'Everyday sentences in Lithuanian' series on my channel. Maybe they will give you a sense of how real Lithuanian sentences look and sound like? (By the way, I'm not trying to persuade you, but if you'd like to have 1-on-1 lessons with me on italki.com this summer, you're welcome. th-cam.com/video/SATaWFn6kDs/w-d-xo.html )
Super :D One day I'm planning to do a special video with phrases for such an occasion: „The Lithuanian you need when meeting your date's parents!“. Feel free to write what you want to say, so I have a better idea which phrases to include :D
@@edward4110 thank you, this is really interesting. All these languages belong to the same family but I didn't expect yours to remain so similar. I only know the very very basics of Lithuanian (no grammar, just a small set of words) and only after your message I've realized that gyventi had the same root as Russian жить (žiť) which means the same. Checked Wiktionary - indeed it is so. Moreover, so are jī́vati (Sanskrit), vivo (Latin), etc. Germanic languages happen to use a different root in this case.
There is a mass sentence method for language learning. If you haven't heard about it, check Glossika's channel. In this channel I try to teach Lithuanian through sentences using repeating patterns, substitution, adding more words and so on. However, incorporating grammar explanations in these lessons will take up much time (and explaining just a bit of grammar won't have the effect). Besides, many people don't like grammar. So I've decided to make separate grammar videos.
Yeah, it's interesting channel. For me, it's important that on youtube I can listen to the same lessons many times. You can do sth else and just listen to it. There are books about Lithuanian in Poland so, youtube lessons will help me remind many simple sentences and remember them good. Grammar - it's always the best to have your native language book about foreign language at the beginning. From waht I've seen English books about Lithuanian aren't that good. Separate Grammar - good point.
I'm glad you like it. There are about 100 lessons on the channel, sadly not all lessons have a good audio quality, but hopefully you'll get something out of it. Sėkmės.
Great. I'm from Poland, part of my family is Lithuanian. Actually Lithuanian pronunciation is much easier than in Polish(yeah I know Polish is very difficult), but I think that for people from Western Europe pronunciation is difficult. What I found difficult in Lithuanian is stress in the words. Well, Germanic languages have simple grammar and phonetics. Before I started to learn Lithuanian I knew only few Lithuanian words and I didn't know that Sejm (Polish parliament is from Lithuanian).
I noticed my mistake in the last comment, I thought I was asked about 'a' and 'e'! So the answer is: both 'a's are the same sounds. Both are unstressed, although 'a' in the word 'ar' is a part of a dipthong but the stress is on the second part of the dipthong ('r'): "ar̃".
For me it's ok, but my point was that for sb from "simple language" background it could difficult. I know cos I have Swedish family, they're not able to learn quickly. Well, we'll see maybe some people from Scandinavia will start learning Lithuanian - after all economic connections are growing around the Baltic Sea.
That's true, but it's easier to start from simple things. Lithuanian is not a simple language like Dutch or German. So, it takes some time...like you said word formations, verb conjugation etc...it's hard to do it all at one time. I would say that pre-intermediate. Of course I'm listening to some radio auditions in Lithuanian (regional from Punskas-Seinai region), but if you have to focus on so many things it's not effective. Well, in English or Dutch I just don't have to think so much.
I hope, you'll understand what I mean. Well, my favorite lessons are dutchforn00bs. She is teaching Dutch on youtube. Lessons are very funny and you can pick it up sth really fast. Well, I'm more interested in our part of Europe, so I'll continue with difficult Lithuanian. Germanic clanguages/rules are simple, just my point of view....maybe language tell us sth about Nations? Good night!
Hi! Nice video 👍🏻 We need to translate some sentences from Lithuanian into English as an exercise for our birthday party. Could you possibly help us with that? We would be grateful forever!!
Hello. It's interesting that you're doing some learning activities for a birthday party, nice idea! I have very limited time so you can write your sentences here in comments. I and other learners will help you. But if you want some sentences right away, you can always watch other videos and take example sentences from them. There are many example sentences in all lessons, there's also the series 'Everyday sentences in Lithuanian'.
Actually it is part of a 'treasure hunt' my partner and me have to fulfill. The difficulty is that we can hardly read the words so sending you a pic would be much easier I think :-) But as you offer your help i will try to note it down here: 1) Moduwismie venepa pajdpocansi no kamanozy. 2) Apieskokite viesbuty su spalvotu gryby kainiu. 3) Igaru u xopamo wobecemuumece. I hope you recognize something in this... thank you ever so much for your help and kindness!
Maybe the way I do videos makes them confusing? I don't know. Because of the reasons I stated above I had to make separate sentence, grammar and grammar practice videos. Now I'm just trying to extend this course. There will be some 'easy' content soon with vocabulary and related words. Tell me if it is easy to understand my lessons. Good night.
Hey! I am from Germany. This video is so good! Maybe I'm gonna learn a little bit of your language even I might won't use it! :D Can you persuade me to study it anyway?? :))
Well, I can't persuade you if you're not willing to learn. However, if you're interested, why not? It's better to learn a new language than to watch TV. By the way, if you want to learn Russian or if you're interested in etymology, you will find many interesting things. What is the advice? You can PM me, if you wish. Sorry for not replying for a long time.

I am English trying to learn..Not easy..words are ok but trying to put in a sentence is really hard.
Tony Evans The beginning is always the hardest part. Watch more lessons, especially with a lot of sentences. This way you'll begin to see patterns.
Tony Evans Yep, remembered every words, can't even form sentences lol
